Today we'll be taking a look at Sunlu's Carbon Fiber PLA. This is a filament I've never tried before, and was expecting a steep learning curve. I was surprised to find that not only does it print with normal PLA settings, but it prints extremely well. My only bad experience was with a bad steel nozzle, but that has since been amended and a separate video on that should be up soon.
Full disclosure, I did get this filament for free from Sunlu, so judge me how you will, but I feel this is an honest opinion and really like this Carbon Fiber PLA.
Thanks for watching! Don't forget to like, subscribe, and share! Follow me on Instagram @bebsrepairbench! You can follow me on twitter too but I don't use it!

Can carbon fiber infused filament such as this be safely be used for parts where contact with the skin is often happening, for example a door knob, where CF is so abrasive?

@@bebsrepairbench5074 it isn't that hard ! An oven, a luggage scale and a bit of time is enough to get a pretty decent idea. But I got you, it's time consuming and if you don't need it ... I wouldn't do it either :p Thanks for the insight tho !

I've dropped my temp down to about 195 and it prints very well. This filament is pretty forgiving when it comes to settings, at least from what I've tried. Thanks for the info!

Thanks for the video. Are there any safety issues using PLA carbon fiber?
@bebsrepairbench5074
@bebsrepairbench5074 4 жыл бұрын
The main concern will be if you sand the finished product. In that case, you would follow the same safety procedures for sanding carbon fiber cloth. There may also be a little loose dust on the spool, so respiratory protection never hurts.

The test results I have seen for this material are (compared to PLA): A little stronger, but not by much. A little more stiffness. Health risk: can be significant if fibers are inhaled.

thinkin of buying carbon fiber nylon for my sunlu s8 pro hpping i dont need to mod, website says it works fine no changes needed to printer, i feel like i got the biggest beat prinyer for cheapest price hah
@bebsrepairbench5074
@bebsrepairbench5074 7 ай бұрын
The S8 is a great machine, I use mine with only a couple of mods to make it easier to use. I think nylon may be a challenge for it, though. An enclosure is a huge help, and glue stick on a bare glass bed usually works well for small parts. I would recommend Magigoo for larger parts. And the filament needs to be dried before printing.

There are so many different factors that can influence what works best on your printer, that I can't say what the best settings would be for you. I would advise trying the same settings you normally use for PLA with a 0.4mm nozzle, but a few degrees higher temp and slowed down slightly, then work from there.

@@fkingride.5500 I find that nozzles larger than 0.4mm should be ran slower. Typically I run a 0.6mm at 40mps max, although part geometry and layer height can allow faster speeds.
