For the smd soldering, it's (I find it) easier to tin just one side at first, then place the component and then solder the second side. That way it's easier to get it to sit flat and might even safe a tiny amount of weight since you'd likely use less solder.

yep 100% agree do it at work so so much easier, extra tip for those who found that tip useful. The pad to tin its the one takes longer to heat. 99% of the time your not going directly to a plane so it doesn't matter but that one pad he mentioned is a good one for this tip.

interesting video I do find it amusing hearing 0805 is tiny, I work at company who make electronic equipment and have to solder 0603 on average 3/5 days and more than once, I have soldered 0402 and due to a oversite I recently soldered some 0201s, not saying it they aren't small or a pain to deal with but having solder 0201s (like 80 ish in a day) hearing 0805 referred to as small made me laugh. for those wondering what the oversite was there are 2 scales metric and Imperial 0603 metric is 0201 imperial. 99% sure the 0805 imperial because that isn't a typical size in metric. (also yes I wish I had the proper equipment to do that I had an iron tweezers solder and flux and didn't use flux because it actually mad it a lot harder.)

Have a look at screw connectors (at digikey or another side for electronic components). These are probably even better to use, compared to the brass parts for leather working :) Most of them have some kind of alignment and features against sheering of.

An intermediate tap would make that much easier

You need a pin vise or small hand vise to hold the pcbs when tapping them

I could see the hole plating potentially coming off over time as it's screwed in/out, or under impacts in the arena, if that happens then soldering a nut to back could get you back up with the same switch and be a more durable thread, but looking forward to seeing how these do!

Hiya, what software do you use to design your pcb's and or how do you ensure that everything is the correct size before sending for production?

For personal projects I have used kicad myself be careful 0603 metric is 0201 imperial its clunky at times but for free software it does the job.
