Outlets with those switches on them are known as GFCI outlets, and they are used in wet locations (like bathrooms or the outdoors) to break a circuit if you plug something in with wet hands, for example, and get shocked. The buttons in the plug let you test the circuit breaking ability of the plug and the other is to reset it if it trips. The reset buttons will usually be pushed out if the outlet needs to be reset, which this one wasn’t, so I’m not sure that was the problem.

Actually, I just did some more research, and I’m pretty sure this is a Lanai. Capistranos only have one pull chain and their switch caps are taller. Lanai’s have two pull chains and have shorter switch caps, like this one. So while I can’t confirm for sure, I’m fairly confident in saying that this is a Lanai. So the fact it wouldn’t turn on still remains a mystery.

@@FansOfGames it’s a Capistrano, I have one and it’s got the exact same switch cap just with a light. It’s from early 2000’s and it’s an indoor rated fan. This isn’t a Lanai.

But how many pull chains?

@@FansOfGames here on KZfaq, look up Casablanca Capistrano, there will be a video of a bronze Capistrano uploaded by Fans of the Pacific Northwest. It is a video of the fan no light kit it has two pullchains. This is a Capistrano.

Maybe, but I asked a worker on staff that day and they said they didn’t know how to turn it on if I couldn’t from the outside, so maybe they just didn’t know if there was a control inside

@@FansOfGames they were probably new workers or just forgot. and I agree this is indeed a Lanai that will not turn on from the outside. Usually fans aren't controlled outside at a restaurant because they don't want customers messing with the controls.

They could very well be new and it would make sense why the controls wouldn’t be there for customers to access. And I’m just curious, how can you tell the difference between a Lanai and a Capistrano? I heard there’s a difference in switch cap size but it seems so slight that it’s hardly noticeable.

@@FansOfGames well you can find a way to get a look at the top of the motor and it says the model name and the serial number.

@@FansOfGames After looking at it, it’s definitely a Lanai. The 2nd chain is positioned straight across from the fan chain and the light chain usually has a cap on it when it arrives from the factory. I still saw the optional light chain cap on the fan even though there was already 2 chains. So yeah it is definitely without a doubt a Lanai.
