Miss Nancy's Day Off

Miss Nancy's Day Off

Күн бұрын

Join me for some lush tropical gardens and sculptures down in Cornwall. I’ve had a lot on my mind lately, trying to figure out what to do and what direction to take while struggling to get used to Miss Nancy not being here, and wondering what my real purpose in life might be. #cornwall #sculpturegarden #lifepurpose
Thanks for watching,
Tori (and the spirit of Miss Nancy) x

Out there is some lonely dog just waiting for a caring human to share all its love loyalty and affection. It will give back to you as much as you give it hope and a life it has never imagined existed. You are not replacing Miss Nancy just giving another poor dog the lifestyle that you gave to her which she would never have had without you.Go for it use your experience gained and transform the life of another animal as only a loving human can

For me, it felt strange taking on another dog after losing one, and I didn't form an immediate bond with the new dog, if truth be known, but time heals and I always grew to love the new dog in the end. As other people have said, you can't replace your dog but finding a new companion that you will grow to love and bond with will be very therapeutic for you.

I can understand yet. To be honest, and this isn’t something I’ve talked about on here before, I did not bond with Nancy Drew straight away and I felt awful about it! But in time we were inseparable and now it’s like I have a huge hole in my chest. I look forward to being able to bond with a new companion one day 🙏

You were real good at taking care of Nancy. She was real happy being with you she did not want to be with anybody else. This means you will be real good at taking care of another dog. Or other animal if you prefer to try something else. We all know animals don't live that long. Some people don't either but we don't ever let that stop us from aquiring a friendship. Thank you for all the great videos I just love the landscape I'm thinking you are in the UK I am kind of new to your videos.

I don't think that you have to choose between time on your own and time with people. A balance between the two is important for most of us. I'm glad that you're thinking seriously about another dog. You've loads of love and adventures to share with a dog and there are so many dogs out there looking for a Tori to give them the life that they deserve. Another dog wouldn't be disloyal to the spirit of Nancy Drew or take her place in your heart. It would just bring it's own personality and love into your life and find its own place in your heart. And we love what you call waffle. It's actually an insight into your thoughts and feelings and the nosey parker in all of us loves that 😁

I hope the right job comes up for you or a piece of land. It's so hard to get land with planning permission in Cornwall isn't it...but that would be amazing if it happened. Or maybe something that's already set up as an animal rescue that they are selling on 🤔. I'm certain that what ever you do.. you will be great at it and you have lots of love to give 🙏. It's a common misconception that happiness is something we find externally through another person, career or object. So a person for instance seeks to own a particular car only to find that attaining that desired object does not fill them with the happiness they had hoped for. A person may want to be with another in the full belief that the other person can make them truly happy, only to find out this is not the case and often leads to great sadness. The reality is that as cliché is it sounds happiness comes from within and there are certain things that help greatly improve our chances of feeling genuine happiness. As you rightly pointed out and as your experience in building this close bond with Miss Nancy has shown the importance of close emotional bonds to our prospect of happiness. It is these bonds that we make through our lives that become the most cherished and important pillars of our happiness. It is wonderful to witness your own internal voice your intuition growing louder and guiding you in the direction of true happiness. Your ideas are coalescing into a plan and I'm certain in due course you will manifest this reality. I'm sure this community has given you endless ideas and suggestions. I know I've mentioned the Cinnamon Trust in another post reply maybe that will feature in your future at some point. The fact the job you applied for didn't respond to you is guidance from the universe this isn't necessarily your path. There's many ways in which you can express your natural desire to care. Also saying yes to happiness doesn't exclude future adventures either. I did not notice any peeling on your nose and that was even with watching on a large TV, that said I definitely would recommend an SPF. As someone very fair I can attest the sun can be very cruel to the skin. 🌞 The sound was perfect throughout this video 👍 and what lovely Gardens. That's another way in which we can stay on the right side of happiness is connecting with nature and what a wonderful place to do that. Thank you for sharing ❤
@missnancysdayoff
@missnancysdayoff 3 ай бұрын
Thank you 🙏 yes you’re right there are lots of different ways to make a difference, maybe I haven’t hit on the right one yet we will see I suppose! Oh my gosh my nose is still peeling, I was wearing sun cream but I failed to reapply it I think, and my self control is down lacking when t comes too not bothering it. That is good, I don’t think I even used to microphone for this one 🫣 it’s frustrating! The gardens are lovely. I am definitely finding at the moment that it is a slippery slope back to misery, but when I am outside I start feeling markedly better and more in control ❤️
@Melatiah
@Melatiah 2 ай бұрын
@@missnancysdayoff When it comes to sun cream as a typical bloke I go for the easiest possible solution that doesn't feel yucky on the skin. So I tried an aerosol based factor 50 sunscreen and it was obviously very convenient to apply and I was quite thorough, then went off on my merry way but ended up getting burnt ears 👂🔥. I honestly assumed given that I wasn't going to go in the ocean that day and it was a factor 50 I was covered for a few hours but no it was my lack of reapplying caught me out. 😡😂 I know it's hard but do try to keep up the self-care. Just little things throughout the day to make you feel a little bit better and have an accumulative effect. After the guilt, blaming yourself and all those negative thoughts it's about trying to turn it around and communicate to yourself that you do deserve care, that you are a good person. What we see, hear, touch, smell, even taste effects our emotional state so wherever possible we try to focus senses on what is good which in turn changes our internal state and well-being. You are doing amazingly well ❤

Hey so good to see you, yes, I think if I am not caring for people or animals, in some part of my life, then I am not happy. Losing a companion is so hard, they are there everyhwere you go and there every time you sleep or awake, so losing them is so big and people struggle to understand how much of a loss it is. A friend said to me when I lost my 1st pet, grieve, feel it and then find a new companion as you will get back the love that you give to your companion. No rushing it, but you loved caring for Miss Nancy and she made you feel loved to. So I can see why you miss that love so much. Miss Nancy could have a charity or something in the future who knows what you can create. x take care.

Isn't it crazy how much perspective an animal friend can give you without even uttering a word? It sounds like Miss Nancy was teaching you, the whole time you were together, about what is really important to you. My connection to animals has been the most important thing in my life and it prompted me to become vegan about 7 years ago having been vegetarian for 33 years prior to that, literally since birth. With that in mind I cannot overstate how much animals mean to me so I understand the desire to help them all too well and I believe that you're on the right track. I've always wanted to buy land as well to start some kind of small vegetable or bamboo farm and small numbers of rescued animals often came to mind during my thoughts on it. If I had land then how could I not want to share it with them?! Whenever I've looked at land though it's been the same story over and over. I would either find nothing, or find something that seemed perfect, even on price (it can be found cheaper than you might think), but was the other end of the country. So if you do go down that road, I'd say take your time and hold out for the right place, find somewhere that really suits you and where you can be truly happy.
@missnancysdayoff
@missnancysdayoff 3 ай бұрын
Exactly true. Everyday I am thinking how much she taught me just by being there it is crazy. We are obviously of a similar mind, being able to grow vegetables, permaculture or some kind of eco friendly natural land thing (you can tell I don’t know much about this yet!) and then also try to rescue animals. I’ve have had some looks at land and it seems so confusing with planning etc, and yeah I am from the south so it feels like I will have to go very far away to be able to achieve this. May we need a group of people together to set up a kind of vegan farm/rescue community. If that doesn’t make me sounds like a massive hippy which i don’t think i am 😅 As you say I think I need to actually spend some time in some different places to see if I would actually be happy living there (and probably try to save some money too!)
@theKNI
@theKNI 3 ай бұрын
@@missnancysdayoff You're right, we definitely hold similar values and whilst I wouldn't consider myself a hippy either, I do love a good lentil stew. 😆 So yeah, small vegan ranch? Count me in! In the long term, it might be beneficial for you to visit a rescue centre that caters to different sorts of "farm" animals, and just ask the owners what was involved when they started out. If you plan on volunteering at any point then a place like that would be ideal to learn the ropes too. Then eventually talk to a land management company to get a grip of the legal aspects? It sounds like you have a dream there which is great. If life has taught me anything it's that you want to focus on the short term goals because after the initial steps, before you know it, the long term goal comes into view. I guess that just means getting as much information together as you can at the moment and seeing what fits. 👍

Hi Tori, I've thought about this a bit. My take - First and foremost, do what makes you happiest. Sounds simple but people often don't. If i had my time again, im not sure i would have chosen the career that I have. However, when it comes to helping dogs, or greyhounds specifically, I can't help feeling your time would be best spent getting a new one carrying on having adventures and sharing them with people. Think how many people you could reach and how many dogs you could be the catalyst to finding their loving forever home. You are a very talented presenter and filmmaker. Use your talent.

You’re not wrong there, I think a lot of people, maybe even most people, end up in jobs they don’t particularly favour. It’s certainly not easy to get away from though but it’s true it’s possible. Maybe you are right. It did make me happy doing this with Nancy. And if I can keep growing the channel that could be a lot of people to share the beautiful greyhounds with. I actually did speak to an adoption place last week, and I think I am going to have to sort out some sort of settled home before I will be able to adopt a new one. And I get it, going on adventures is great once they have found their feet but it’s tough at first. Definitely the first six months for me and Miss Nancy were tough! So I think I need to look at options for making that happen then hopefully I we can have a new pointy face to star in these films 🥰

Hi Tori My sister in law manages an animal sanctuary on the outskirts of Plymouth in a place called Plympton. They are always struggling to find truly animal oriented reliable volunteers. Before committing to finding land and striking out with no experience, you could volunteer in a place like this and learn how it works, the good stuff and the hard stuff. You only commit to the time you have and it doesn't have to be forever. If you're interested I can pm you the details. It's called Woodside Animal Sanctuary and it's on the edge of the moor. Hi, Tori. Hope all is well. You are a sweetheart. I think if you get a piece of land, get volunteers, and create/build an animal rescue/ sanctuary, it will be great for you and the community. If I ever leave my cave and see the sun again, I will volunteer for your rescue place. Whatever path you choose, what is important is that you are always safe, healthy, and happy because everything else is manageable! Pops

@missnancysdayoff hi, Tori. I got the nickname, "Pops," when a neighbor was moving out of state, and asked me to take his dog, for good, which I accepted. While he was leaving, he told the dog: "You have a new Pops, now. Be a good girl. " From that moment on, I became "Pops. Only the dog knows me as Pops. I got a second dog for them to play together. The first dog passed away at the age of 16 from cancer, after a few years of treatment, and the second dog is still around, making me smile and keep me company in my cave. I never had pet dogs until I got Mia and Missy. Stay safe, stay healthy, and stay happy. Pops

Another lovely video Tori and a beautiful place you were in. it's so good that you are thinking of helping another soul(s) who will need you and bit by bit you are working things out in your head. I think that you would get a lot out of working with a shelter as well as adopting your own dog. Remember the job with a rescue centre would not be forever, but I believe would help you through your tragic and premature loss of Miss Nancy. You will work things out in time ♥

I waited a couple of years after losing my last - and got a rescue dog; a Finnish Long Legged Dachshund. That was three years ago and it took a while to stop comparing him with his predecessor. He is a totally different character and my regret was having waited two years before adopting Rudi. Rudi was only nine months old and had been poorly treated when I adopted him as his 5th ‘father’. He is now a very friendly, powerfully built 50kg hound. It’s taken three years to gain his trust. It’s been a long journey and he comes everywhere with me - we go hiking / camping every other weekend throughout the year, where we also are looking for a plot of land for ourselves. I particularly love donkeys and other ‘work’ animals that are just discarded when they age, amongst other animals. I would also like to offer homeless veterans a comfortable place to rest their heads in exchange for their help. A few years ago whilst sailing, I met a couple that had opened a sanctuary for Lemurs in Madagascar - it was an incredible experience to see what they were doing. So meaningful. Good luck to you.

A lovely video and the gardens look like lovely too. Fate usually decides where and what we do in life. Right now for you, that is being in Cornwall and being close to your sister and family is very important in times like these. It’s good to have plans and purpose in life though, but start small with tangible and realistic goals that you can aim towards, and are achievable. Those mini steps will help you get to some of your bigger goals. Just remember Rome wasn’t built in a day, and only do things for yourself, that make you happy, and not what you think will please others. So if that is taking on another rescue dog, then that is only something you will know when you are ready to do. But as mentioned earlier, your sole seems firmly planted in Cornwall, and if you ended up working locally, then your adventures and trips away, would be something to plan ahead and look forward to, whilst having a steady income to fund those trips! Just don’t map your life out, as fate always has other plans, and life is never easy. Good luck with the job news, and hopefully you will hear something on that front soon. Take care ❤️

You seem to be doing a good job of finding your way. Some advice given to me years ago - was to get your foot in the door. I think there is value in going to a place of interest...like a an existing dog rescue and start chatting with folks there. i.e. Hang out around dog shelters. Have lunch / coffee with someone at the shelter or get an informational interview. Getting experience - if even for a short while will give a lot of insights into what you like and don't like. I've just joined your channel so I don't know all your background - so maybe this is all obvious. Your dog that you cared about can be like a pillar of your purpose now. Best wishes.

One day, after many days, I had found that I’d actually walked over that bridge and left most of the sadness behind me. @@missnancysdayoff what I found worked well for me was writing about some of the easier memories first. I would just jot ideas down in the notes App of my phone or iPad. They didn’t have to be coherent, I just wanted to get them down. The harder more confronting memories I treated a bit like a cliffs edge. I’d cautiously move towards the edge, and try and be brave enough to glimpse over the edge for a moment or two and then step back. I was eventually able to spend a little more time, each time viewing those more painful memories.

In terms of what you should do, obviously you are a nurturer and love animals. I would not, however, automatically turn your efforts to running a shelter. I know two women who have devoted themselves to these ventures. One became the rural neighbourhood's dropoff point for stray cats. She had 13 plus several other animals (I gave her a duckling. No duck has ever lived this well!). She can't go anywhere for more than a couple of days even with parental backup and animals cost money to feed and medicate. 10 years after she reached peak capacity she still has over a dozen dependants and feels stifled. The other woman used her inheritance to set up a shelter for horses and mules/donkeys. The workload was incredible and volunteers sort of drifted away after a few years. So she had several barns of animals all needing care and she was wearing herself out delivering it as her funds were running down. I don't know if she is still doing it but I would expect major emotional trauma if she had been forced to shut it down. On the positive side, if you would like a small house on an acreage near a wilderness area, perhaps you could make friends with some of the local wild species as they visited from time to time. You could also maybe assist in helping to restore the habitat and population of an endangered species. I know this is love at a distance but still, it could be fulfilling, manageable cost and still allow you free time to windsurf around Africa or something. What I am saying is that to fill the void left by Miss Nancy, don't allow your heart to write cheques your bank account and your energy levels can't cash in the long term.

@@missnancysdayoff The windsurfing reference was a wildly overthetop example. I'm in Nova Scotia, not Africa. Windsurfing around either would end in a failed fantasy in fairly short order but I am sure you will keep your adventures within the realm of reality. You do such a great job showing off the local countryside, it gives one a feeling for the area and its residents. Bite-size outings will keep your beautifully shot, relaxing videos coming! Much better to ensconce yourself in a small energy positive home in a lovely area and support the wildlife and domestic animal efforts which will more than fulfill your nurturing nature.

So sad to hear about your loss. I think that as long as you can talk about Miss Nancy, she still lives; so you should carry on living your life and trying to make a difference. Art is pretty much anything that evokes an emotional response, so even if one doesn't like it, it's probably "Art". The problem with, "Buy some land, build a tiny house, ...", is that any land that one could afford won't have planning permission, any land with planning permission one cannot afford and getting planning permission requires superhuman patience, more money (which one probably doesn't have) and one may probably die of old age before permission is granted. You should try for an easier problem such as Peace in the Middle East!

My view is a dog is for life, your life not its life, its life is short so remember with fondness and cherish the memory and good times and move forward with that. Seems there is so much more going on here than a dog, its comes across as replcement therapy for something else. So common in so many women i know sadly in modern life.. just my view. Don't try to run before you can walk!!! Get the land a little later on but first and foremost you really need to get another dog. No ifs and buts, do it now! You know inside you that certainly a big part of your purpose in life is to help another dog.

Hi Tori, As I have a beautiful daughter, of similar age to you, this comment is from a Dad's point-of-view. 🙂 In common with many others, I think you will eventually feel ready to adopt another dog... and that will be great for both of you. However, isn't there room in your life for a special person too? You are in the prime of your life and, most definitely, very easy on the eye (my guess is that your wild swimming videos probably get a lot of views), so I strongly doubt that you lack options. In addition, you come across as a sincere, sensitive and good human. Dad's always want to see their daughter's being loved, cared for and cherished... so I'd suggest a new canine and human combination! All the best.

@@missnancysdayoff … thanks for your reply, Tori… and it's good to know that your future is very likely to be doubly-enhanced! You may not get that vacancy THIS time round Tori, but once you're on their "radar", maybe an opportunity in the future, people come & go all the time ! You are similar to a British girl vet, Dr Janey Lowes, who appeared on Ben Fogle's "New Lives In The Wild" ! Moved to Sri Lanka, to take care of 100's of neglected, sick "Street dogs" Amazing what she has achieved through her "calling" !

There's a place called Heartlands that Cornwall Council are trying to sell off I think, it covers 19 acres. You could check it out for availability of a parcel of land to buy or rent maybe. I know you're not a quitter but a hell of a lot of work would be required to set up a dog rescue centre. And probably a lot of money as well all so you can scoop up smelly dog poo. Much rather you than me Miss Nancy.

@@missnancysdayoff Setting up a dog rescue centre will cost a lot of time and money and it's a total financial loss venture, you'd need to be constantly looking for funding. I watched a video on here the other day where this guy took this little dog out for a walk; I don't know what breed it was but it was really cute. I think people are more drawn to little dogs than big ones. They're the only type I could tolerate. Of course you could look for a house, garden and some trees to live in and keep one or two kennels at the bottom of the garden..... and take me in as a lodger paying rent.
