Bob, the glove box lock is essentially an old time Yale cabinet lock. Use a flashlight to look at the latch. Printed on is a number, that number can make the glovebox lock which is also the ignition lock key. A yale lock key is easy to come by

A good locksmith can stick a keyblank in your locks and jiggle it back and forth and see where to cut it with a hand file.

I have a Silver Shadow around the same vintage as yours. It has two keys, one for the ignition and the other key does the trunk and doors.

1 of my favourite Rolls-Royce Restoration Channels the other being My mate Vince he's restoring a 35 year old Silver Spirit!

Call the RR Foundation in PA. Many times they have the original sales invoices and the dealer will write the codes down.

In the old days British cars had door key and different ignition key.They will all be Lucas the number on the barrel.

Hi Bob it's Rick from Australia I'm not trying to be smart I can see that you have built many many cars but just a thought but a lot of older cars in Australia used to have a separate key for just the truck and the glovebox then the other key opened the doors and the ignition not sure about rolls Royce but you might get in luck if you try to get a key made from a door might be worth a shot. Love your vids mate keep up the great work

I’m a big guy too. You might consider wearing actual button/leather hook suspenders. Much more comfy and a better make of suspender. And if you eliminate the redundant belt that will relieve some tightness in the midsection which also makes for more comfort.

Hi Bob. I’m enjoying your Rolls Royce videos. Just watched the video regarding the Corniche and key issues you are having. I have a 1973 Silver Shadow and the one key works all locks including the glove box. This should be the same for all these cars of this period. With regards to your car and the fact that the locks haven’t had a key in them for a long time, it might just be that the internals are just dried out and stuck together. Perhaps with some WD40 and working the key gently back and forth in each lock it could be enough to free up the internals . It might take a little bit of time but unless the individual locks have been swapped out of another car it should work. Also just check that the new key you’ve had cut doesn’t have any burrs on it. These are Yale locks which are manufactured with close tolerances and if not regularly lubricated will seize up. If that doesn’t work then contact the Rolls Royce owners club it’s a global club they have access to the massive archive from the factory . That will contain all the original as built information about your particular car that should include key numbers. All you need to give them is your cars chassis number and join the club if you’re not already a member of it.

On ALL my Shadows and my 81 Corniche, the same key operates the trunk, ignition and glovebox. Again, the ignition has a plugin for the wires! What do I know? Owning these for 20+ years means I know nothing😂! PS I removed the window "brake" on my cars. The windows go down/up as a new car and the glass does NOT drop! The brake was a safety issue but one of the reasons that caused really slow movement.

I'd wrap it Bob, Get the rubber kit and the other minor parts and enjoy it!

Thanks for all the great videos you make, really enjoy them. The Corniche is a lovely car and with the right refurbishment they become quite valuable. Personally, I would go "all in" and paint the car, that will do the car the most justice. Drive a Silver Seraph myself, they are much easier to maintain, since they are somewhat newer, and that a good number of the parts come from BMW. Check them out👍 Keep up the good work, love your videos.

U need a auto locksmith to come out pick the lock with a Lishi picking tool that pick reads the pins in the lock and cut u a new key from that key code

my 74 toronado had a big red button under the hood to delete the seatbelt thing.

Now everyone who watches your videos knows that any key will start your car. I’m sure it wouldn’t take too long before someone would try and steal it. Personally, I would get that tumbler replaced. Man, you can get someone to do it for you if you don’t want to do it yourself.

Tee's autobody on Sunset and Boulder Highway would cut you a deal on painting that thing he has painted a couple cars of mine and repaired some family vehicles due to accidents. Good guy to deal with, the Maaco on Stephanie by Russel does decent work too. Stay away from that 1 day on the west side/

Locking you doors is bad on a convertible, the best place to put everything is in the trunk or leave it at home. The ignition is working OK, you have the outher key to give a valet, not your trunk key, unless they are getting your luggage, you have all you need.

There are locksmiths that are Mobile--find them and have them come to the car. Some of these are vey talented-----Mikey

🤔👍🏁 If you can turn the key, you might be able to take out the key cylinder, i dont know, but somtimes there is a little hole under. You can turn the key and take a small skrewdriver and stick it in the hole and pull out the cylinder,,, if so,, be wery carefull! you might loose all the pins.

Did you make sure to tell them to make a key to the lock the way it is? And WD40..

Driving a fancy expensive Rolls Royce that you have to start it with essentially a screwdriver. I know there’s a couple shops in Beverly Hills a few hours away I’d drop it off there and have them do some of these things. Might not be worth the aggravation. If you drive it you’re still gonna want to lock it up even if it’s a convertible.

isn't there someone who drives out and makes a key on site in your area?. then he can make a key for the whole thing on the spot. it doesn't even need to be coded to the immobilizer as it is as old as it is. so it can't cost that much to get them to do it. :-)

Take off the grill and bumpers and the easy to get off chrome, take it to Maaco, they will sand it and rebondo it, in red for 2 or 3 grand, it will look great in valet parking in the front. The locksmith saw you coming, real locksmith could have done it in a half hour for a $20!

i don't think wrapping it will work, simply cause the paint on it is so bad and easy to flake off that the wrapping won't stick to the car ,and the wrapping will just take the paint off with it

Instead of keys Bob why not put a motion sensor alarm 🚨 in the car that will go off if anyone opens a door or reaches in when the top is down. More peace of mind if you’re in an establishment and the car is out of view and you’d be notified.
