Join me while I research and repair some more intermittent connections inside the Kenwood. I even do a service bulletin while I have the board out.

Well, a little over a year later and I stumbled on this video. AD8BU here. I started watching your video and then you described what was going on... I was like, man I wish this video was around back when I was having that problem with my TS-940. It sounds exactly like what was dealing with. Then you referenced my post on QRZ right after that thought went through my head. My 940 is still working, though I didn't know about the service bulletin regarding changing that resistor at the time I serviced mine. I'll have to look into that and the needle slam the next time I crack mine open. 73, AD8BU

It’s definitely a fun radio to work on. It’s a big thing and there’s a lot of info out there. Thanks for the post.

Thank you, now I know how to fix the microwave from doing that horrid beeping sound :)

I would suggest ear plugs.

The meter slam mod might have been worth doing also, swapping J5 with a 1N4148 or similar and putting a 100uF from cathode to ground, solves the meter pegging at power off.

I'll give that a shot next time I have it apart.

@@timtimeprojects3576 Thats on the IF board, it takes the rig up to 9m> spec with the other Kenwood SBs.

What is the service bulletin number for the s meter slamming mod?? I have one that does it. Surprised it has not damaged it by now.

@@kevinmccool3719 There is no SB from Kenwood, but the mod was documented by 3rd parties comparing Earlier IF boards with later 9M series boards that did not meter slam.
