"Burton to his Taylor" is a reference to Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor, famous actors who were both in the movie 'Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf?' (reminiscint of "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?" one of the tracks of TTPD) which is a movie about a wife and husband. Burton plays a history professor. They argue like crazy the whole movie. It's labeled as a thriller/drama. "While starring together in the film 'Cleopatra' in 1962, in Italy, Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton reportedly began an affair that blossomed into 'the marriage of the century' about two years later, after they both were divorced from their respective spouses."

I feel like "who's afraid of little old me" could be the only song on ttpd that would talk about the masters issue. It sounds to me as if she's ironically referencing someone who believed that taking advantage of her/not seeing her as any kind of threat wouldn't have any real consequence and that she'd just shut up and accept her faith, but she hasn't. They weren't afraid of an artist who herself felt like she was at the end of her popularity because she was getting "too old" in the industry for people to still tolerate her (as she mentioned in miss americana) and so they did whatever they wished to and it came back for them

What is kinda crazy and that I LOVE is that Travis is legit at the top of his chosen profession. So many analysts, players, former players say that he is the Greatest Tight-end who’s ever played the game…. But, he so would and is ok with being Taylor’s boyfriend, or Mr Swift. Just look at this week, he’s getting ready to play one of the most important games of his life, and yet he’s having stupid reporters ask the absolute DUMBEST questions about Taylor Swift and he has not shown a BIT of annoyance (and I gotta admit, if it were me, I would be pissed by now)…. I think that’s why so many of us who’ve NEVER before cared an iota about a celeb relationship are invested in their relationship. They legit seem to have been made for each other! I think that for both of them, this is probably the healthiest dating relationship they’ve ever had. Anyway! lol. I’m so excited for this album, the songs I can’t wait to hear most are Who’s afraid of little ol’ me…. And the smallest man in the world…. Also fortnight because, I’m dying to hear how her and Posty sound together! 🤍🖤🤍 Love your analysis!

Did you see the lady who started singing karma and told him to finish the lyrics and he just stared while she sang and said next question. And then she did it to Pat. Honestly people really have no shame. But another one of my favorite players was asked about if he’d hung around her and he was like no I’m trying to be in the kind of attention and honestly sameeee. I think at some point we all imagined ourselves being famous and thought it would be so great but I would never want to be in her shoes. It’s a good thing that she’s okay with it because it would drive me nuts so I don’t think hiding was all joes idea. Maybe she thought she wanted I feel like at this point there’s nothing about her life that is normal which is why her songs have turned into stories rather than a play by play of a 3 month relationship. None of her relationships strike me as normal because she can’t be normal. It’s just a strange place to be in I imagine, like wondering what is real and what is right and who will actually be strong enough to stay in her life and kinda understanding why it’s just not going to work for others but why she might get angry at someone for seeming like they would stay and her doing everything to make things as okay for him as possible just for him to never be satisfied. Crazyyyyy

About the track 15 alchemy, I saw a theory on tt that said that alchemy is a study of trying to turn steal into gold, which obviously is impossible, and Taylor spent a lot of her time telling that love is golden, like in daylight, so the song can be about her trying to turn something(their relationship) which wasn’t golden/perfect/good into something ideal and better and trying to save it

I like that, if "But, daddy, I love him" references the little mermaid, she goes from giving her voice away to be with her lover to reclaiming her voice with "Clara Bow". I think that her whole thing with writing Folklore and Evermore as stories she created (which we all know she made up those stories to talk about her feelings towards certain things without the scrutiny from the media with gossip about her personal life) was because Joe didn't want to have their relationship's highs and lows to turn into gossip. So, when she broke up with him, the first thing she wanted was to be very public about her relationships (cause we know our girl loves to tell the whole word about the person she loves and show her admiration for them, and also she writes very intimately about her feelings and the things that she goes through). So by breaking up with Joe, she got to live her most geniune self. She went from silent movies to "talkie" cinema. And, whilst I'm talking about the songs from the end of the album, I also think that the bonus track, The Manuscript, could be the song about her relationship with Travis, that the concept of the manuscript could be a metaphor for her beggining a new relationship, having this new blank page that she's still beggining to write on and the joy of this process of a new thing that she's creating with Travis. Like, Joe was a book that's already published and done with, Matty is an old notebook that she wrote around what was already written (footnotes on another story kind of way), but Travis is a new story she's beggining to tell. And, if my theory is somewhat right, that would be the perfect track to be a bonus track, because we know our girlie has liked to make the most raw and direct track into a bonus track (so it doesn't get as scrutinized by the media, because you can only listen to it if you buy a copy and most tabloids won't go through the hassle, and that rises the sales numbers), and also because that would be a happy song to give a new upbeat ending to the full version album.

I also thought that. And that she could have been inspired by the stages of grief (taylor's version) to decide the order of the track listing. Side A would be denial; side B would be anger and bargaining; side C is the hardest to relate to depression (but, still, could be about feelings she didnt think she would feel after the break up); and side d is acceptance that she's better off without him and reclaiming her voice.

the first thing i did when this tracklist came out was google clara bow. i came across this quote from clara herself, and i feel like it speaks very much to taylor, especially performing on the eras tour while heartbroken : "all the time the flapper is laughing and dancing, there's a feeling of tragedy underneath, she's unhappy and disillusioned, and that's what people sense." it's giving the mirrorball taylor had to be to keep performing and shining for us while going through so much emotionally. she could do it with a broken heart, but we the fans, knew she wasn't happy. like the early performances of lover, i don't wanna live forever and most of all call it what you want (angry version). we saw it then, but a few minutes later she'd be holding up her fearless heart hands or dancing on stage to bejeweled. i haven't seen anyone talk about this quote yet, but it's all i've been able to think about honestly.

Who's afraid of little old me -- The first thing I thought of was a well-known cinema classic, a film based on a controversial theater play called "Who's afraid of Virginia Woolf?" from 1966. In the film, the main roles of the old married couple were played by Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, to whom Tay already referred to on the album Reputation. I watched this movie so long ago that I don't remember much, except that the two mentioned above played a frustrated, long-term married couple. I think Taylor is referencing this film/play, among other things. Regarding the motifs contained in the play, I am pasting an interesting quote from Wikipedia. "Christopher Bigsby asserts that this play opposes the idea of a perfect American family and societal expectations as it "attacks the false optimism and myopic confidence of modern society". Albee takes a heavy-handed approach to displaying this contrast, making examples of every character and their expectations of the people around them."

Ooh, I hadn't thought of that. That she may change the meaning of the acronym throughout the song. My first thought was that it isn't in capital letters, so it's like people use it in the internet, so it's not as serious. Like, she though he was the Love Of My Life, but he turned out to be temporary and not as meaningful.

Okay two theories about loml 1. Working off Nena's gen z thing, Emma Laird is gen z, wondering if the age difference between Taylor and her is related and 2. I read a reddit post that seems VERY plausible and I can't stop thinking about it, Joe filmed a movie called The Last Letter from Your Lover and loml could also stand for last of my letters, and with the whole document/case file theme I think it fits.

At the end where you said that Taylor Swift will probably release the TTPD album in full with no lead singles beforehand etc - I agree with that. Right off the bat, this album just feels like all the songs are gonna be released at once kind of like how when a novel is coming out, you get the book/ whole story in full of course. Like the author isn’t gonna release parts of the book before the release. And this album is literally poetry and book vibes. If that makes sense

LIKE THE DELETED SCENE IN MEAN GIRLS

This track list analysis is amazing, Nena! 👏🏻 Way to go with the deep dives into the meanings of these titles. I thought maybe this album was going to be more like folklore and evermore, but now after seeing this track list I’m not sure. 🤔

I still think it will be in a certain way, with lot of metaphors and references to other things to explain her feelings, but in a more direct way to how they connect with her life than it was done with Folklevermore. In folklevermore she used the stories she created to hide how she was talking about her life, but I feel that in TTPD she'll use other stories to connect her stories to something bigger than her, whilst also making it clear that she's talking about herself. I think it will turn the Folklevermore "formula" on its head: instead of the stories being created to indirectly talk about her life, it's her life that indirectly mimics other stories. Instead of art copying life, it's life copying art.

Tracking thoughts as I watch, 1. I think the two weeks will be about needing space or taking a break -> “I curse the space that I needed” in hits different 2. Wow yes every song being a chapter would make a lot of sense I love that 3. As a Texan I just felt a sense of loss knowing we could’ve been so close to getting a TS song named Texas!!! 😂 4. Oh no. Your analysis of Guilty as Sin? Has me thinking what if it’s about the backlash she faced dating Matty Healy. People accusing her of cheating on Joe because she moved on ‘too fast’ and the attacks about being with a questionable person, who claims it’s part of his art expression. I hope this song has vigilante shit vibes. 5. loml is gonna be the song that makes me cry if I make it through the rest. Calling it now. The understatement of the acronym being lowercase is just so easy to glance over I think it’s gonna be very raw.

I feel like we often think Taylor had to shrink herself for Joe, when in fact it has nothing to do with Joe but rather the pandemic. If we think about it, she was also with Joe during the lover era, and she was not "shrunk" during that time in any shape or form. She attended tons of interviews, award shows, performances and also planned for the lover fest. Yes, maybe she didn't attend all of Joe's premieres or Joe didn't walk the red carpet with her, but to be fair, which one of Taylor's other bfs have done that? And yeah they didn't talk about their relationship to the public, but when u think about it, Taylor still doesn't talk about Travis, she prefers not to. And Taylor never had to back away from being absolutely raw about their relationship in her music which is the only thing that matters to her. Nor did she have to shy away from becoming successful or reaching new heights. So, why exactly do we assume Taylor had to shrink herself for him?...

Thank you so much for this. Love your analysis. Such goosebumps when you talked about Guilty as Sin?, I've been feeling like the whole album is going to have this crime and detective kind of vibe, because there are so many references to crime and evidence, the crime scene of a love that killed her kind of thing. And when you mentioned the lyrics form cruel summer, I didn't even think of that, wow! I'm claiming this entire album as my new fave lol.

Wanted to write this comment under every swiftie channel but couldn't yet: Swifties, let's please be mature and not start a hate trend towards Joe. The only reason Taylor is able to do what she does and share her stories with us is because she trusts us to not hurt anyone. I'm worried because I already see a trend starting amongst KZfaqrs who react to the track list in which they anticipate that she will completely destroy joe and that he did horrible stuff to her and that they can't wait to see him get called out, which all sounds very cruel and childish. We're better than this. No matter what happened between them, it's not up to us to punish or hurt others. Joe was everything tp Taylor at some point, and even though those feelings did not last, you only have to listen to rep, lover, folklore and evermore to see how much they meant to each other. Let's not tarnish those beautiful albums at least.

Can we talk about how the opening track maybe will hint to the fact that Joe plays Fortnight? 😂 Above all things, Fortnight, man, Fortnight... 😂 (It's already unusual for her to create imagery without double or even multiple layers of meaning, let alone in this situation when she is explicitly telling us she is going to 💁🏻)
