What a good history lesson, of course, through Hollywood's eyes. The greed, the competition between American Indian Nations and the white men and amongst themselves and the idea of conservatism. Tulsa is long gone as a capitol of anything, but I still like Tulsa. There is a lot to break down and consider in this film. What is obvious is Susan Hayward's radiance and talent. She was so beautiful in appearance, carriage, skill and bravery to take roles other women might not. I have been 'in love" with Ms. Hayward since I was a boy. She mesmerizes me. A side glance from her and a smile sends me into spirals of joy and missing her (21:29). There are times when I see her, and a couple of times in this movie, that I am swept away in her on screen presence. It makes me cry with joy just to see her. It is amazing to find her here so easily. For that I am grateful.

I live in Tulsa. This is a great historic look at the state. A new companion film will be coming out soon "Killers of the Flower Moon" that will tell the story of the murders of the Osage Indians during the same period as this film is set in except this will be based on actual events. The murders were investigated by a little known agency at the time the FBI. This case put the agency on the map nationally. For the native people in the state it was not the greatest investigation. Too many people literally got away with murder. Thanks for uploading this movie and sharing. Susan was beautiful and great to see Chill Wills.

Tulsa is a special place, I’ve been to the center of the universe and I could really feel the power and felt great. I was born in Tulsa my dad worked for a pipeline company and his office was there but we traveled all over coating pipe for other places, and I was raised on a ranch in southwest Oklahoma, I had no idea how spoiled I was until I was 30 lol. We had it all. That big Indian driving that red car reminded me of the Osage chief in his first car bought with oil money, he had twelve horses pulling him down the road, and this cowboy came along and said Chief if you’ll flip this switch you’ll have 300 horses pulling your car, and the Indian looked around and said Hummm where horses and cowboy said right under that hood. Lol true story.

I didn’t think I was going to like this as not a fan of Dallas etc but it was more enjoyable than I expected especially when Gwen Gekko caused the inevitable conflict with friendship with Susan Hayward, Robert Preston and a young Pedro Armendariz. The conflict with farming is very familiar only not so much with oil in 2023 but with politicians who for some reason wish to vilify meat.

But normal people do speak foul language, ma'm! Those were times when films were fairy tales. Little to do with real life.
@sofiabravo19942 жыл бұрын
@@haviskam were you there? As a vintage buff myself I’ve interviewed enough elders including my family who experienced their childhood to young adulthood in the 30s-50s and socially it was seen as a no no to cuss, only sailors or men at bars were using foul language. Most places discouraged it, cursing was seen as vulgar and uncivilized. If your parents caught you saying a colorful word you definitely would get a spanking. Yes I’m sure people would slip up from time to time in public but they were still mindful. People now have no consideration for others around them. It’s sad we have spiraled since then. The whole attitude of anything goes is killing humanity.
@devong71242 жыл бұрын
Bad language ruins a movie in the first 5 minutes these days. Vulgar language isn't necessary and very unpleasant to the ears. That's what is great about these older movies. Good stories, good acting, leaves something to the imagination. Of course the younger people seem to only use drugs for imagination. It's better when times were hard, people had values, morals, conscience, their Word meant something, Family and Friends were Loyal, Honorable, helping each other, they Worked hard and Loved hard. Cried hard and laughed hard. Would be nice if these Movies were Remakes, and Not change a thing.
@devong71242 жыл бұрын
@@sofiabravo1994 Remember when signs were POSTED, "No profanity!".... Bad language is terrible on the ears. ..Most families didn't cuss. Depending on the group of people / places one hung around if they cussed. Even those that did cuss watched their tongue around their family, out of RESPECT. MY GREAT GRANDMA had to be very, very mad/ upset to say shit or damn. My Mom cussed like a Sailor untill she hit her 70's. Her children tried many years to get thru to her how bad it was. The bad words used today are as awful as it gets. Worse that some parents think it's funny when their toddlers cuss.
