On this travel vlog, we visit a Thai community in Tumpat, Kelantan, Malaysia!
We took a Grab car from Kota Bharu to Tumpat and decided to explore the Temples that dot the city. The temples are very spread out so we wanted to rent a motorbike when we bumped into a local Malay Muslim lady who offered us to take us around.
There are 25 Buddhist Temples in Tumpat! But we only got to visit 3 of the biggest ones:
1. Wat Phikulthong - Standing Buddha Statue
2. Wat Machimmaram - Big Sitting Buddha Statue
3. Wat Phothivihan - The most popular temple in Kelantan as it has the largest and longest sleeping Buddha statue.
The nice lady also took us to a local traditional Malay market where we had Thai food for lunch. We had Tom Yam - a sour and spicy seafood which we enjoyed.
We were surprised that there are so many Buddhist temples in the Islamic state of Kelantan. It shows the beauty of multiculturalism in Malaysia. We had fun exploring this Malaysian Kampung.
We hope this Kelantan travel guide and Malaysia travel guide will help you plan your trip in Malaysia, especially if you are wondering for things to do in Kelantan and things to do in Malaysia.

People especially from big city said Kelantan were very concervative state. But when you go there & see by your own eyes a lot of beautiful Buddhist temples there. Amazing right? Kelantanese people live in harmony, kind & they respect each other. Btw Thai people in Malaysia we called them "Siam @ Siamese people". It's old name of Thailand. & majority of them living in Kelantan & Kedah only. Alwaus exciting watching your video tour guys. Best wishes.

hey steve! the cremation area thing in the temple is open, u can go inside. buddhists usually go inside to pray/worship their ancestors to pay respect, thats why you see the pot thingy in the middle, thats where u stick the incense after u pray with it. u can pray by putting ur hand together(like a thank you 🙏🏻 hand) and do little bows/head nods(in between). u can think of something like hope they protect u or stuff like that while doing the little bowing motions.

There are huge Thai Malaysia or siamese Malaysian in Northern Malaysia especially in Kedah and Kelantan. Prior to 1909, those Northern Statrs are part of Thailand before agreement signed with British. Tgat agreement also splitted few of the Malay's majority states on Thailand i.e Yala, Patani, Satun, Narathiwat, and Songkla too

Bullshit. Kelantan remains one of the poorest states in Malaysia, that's why many of its people are working in KL. PAS now in the government yet the Minister did not even follow the SOP after coming back from Turkey and did not quarantine himself for 14 days!!!! And you want Malaysia to be run by PAS? Nope!

Good Putin how is politic related to his comment? Pas, bn, pkr and even dap are all trash and corrupted. Btw many people in Kelantan work in KL? Do u need to widen your eyes? Not only Kelantanese, but many people from Kedah, Pahang, Sabah, Melaka, Sarawak and even Selangor work in KL, are they all poor because they don’t work in their hometown? Such an extremely shallow minded person.

Good Putin i don’t speak without solid statistics, so please give fact and statistic that most people working in Kl are from Kelantan. And wow, if that is 100% true, that means KL will be NOTHING without Kelantanese, because MAJORITY of people working in KL are the hardworking, genius, and rich Kelantanese. Indirectly, you’re saying that actually Kelantanese are the one helping the economic growth and development of KL cool! btw bear in mind Im not even Kelantanese.

Thanks for another fantastic video. As to your question, that's the Buddhist Wheel, Dharmachakra, which means Dharma Wheel with 8 spokes, representing Eightfold Path, the oldest, universal symbol for Buddhism...Although officially listed as a Buddhist, I don't know too much Buddhism, I google it..Hahaha....but I believe in Siddhartha Guatama wisdom and compassion...Cheers

Steve, Ivana and Ken, I may now be commenting on the most recent event, but when I saw ken's video where he was invited to a cultural event. Thousand apologies, but I can't resist to advise all you 3 to be cautious about the precautions to take especially during this pandemic period. Social distancing, cleaniness, and definitely no sharing of same plate when eating with someone not close to you.

Hi Steve and Ivana of @jetlag warriors. Not sure when u are in Tumpat wether someone told you about there is another border between Malaysia and Thailand. The one that u went last week at rantau Panjang. At Tumpat there is another border called Pengkalan Kubur. Also popular among the local. Also in Tumpat you will find Railway Station of Tumpat. The last Railway Station in Malaysia Peninsular for East Coast Line. Anyway hope you guys enjoy your trip in Kelantan.

Fun fact Some Kelantanese Malay has their own surnames like Wan, Che, Nik, etc. That is very unique since most Malays don’t have surnames and just put their name and their father’s name. For example, Abu Bin Ali. Abu: The person’s name. Bin: Son of.. Ali: His father’s name. If combine together, it’ll become Abu, son of Ali. If Abu has surname like Wan, it’ll become Wan Abu Bin Wan Ali, Wan Abu son of Wan Ali. That’s why Malay names tend to be very long😅 The only Malay surnames from other states that I know are Megat and Tuan (Maybe more that I don’t know off). Tengku is a surname usually used for royalty. So, Wan Ramlah is one of the unique Malay that has their own surname. I wonder which Wan is her father? Ah, so there you have it. Enjoy your adventure guys!
