Another great day with Malaysia Tourism. We started our day by having breakfast at a traditional Floating Market in Kota Bharu called Pasar Tani Terapung in Pangakalan Datu. There were many food vendors selling traditional Malaysian food from their boats. We got nasi kerabu and lontong. There were also many cultural shows at the market, one of them being the dikir barat, where the performer chant poetic Malay rhymes. We also saw wau bulan kite making, and gasing game.
We also took a river cruise with a beautiful painted boat called kolek to see a nipah farm. Nipah is a type of palm trees, and you can use everything from the tree; from the flowers, fruits, leaves, and even the tree sap! It was interesting to see.
From the floating market, we head to the Twin Dragon Temple (Wat Photikyan) to see the longest dragon gate in South East Asia and a tall standing Buddha. It was a beautiful place to visit.
From visting a temple, to visiting a Mosque. That was what we did. We went to Masjid Ar Rahman to visit a Malay style mosque...it was our first time inside a mosque! And we also visited the Fisherman Village nearby at Kampung Pulau Gajah
Then at night, we went to Min House Camp to have a traditional Malaysian food, and make a traditional Malaysian kuih called onde onde. Steve even grated his own coconut using the Malay traditional coconut grater! We ended the day by watching a wayang kulit (shadow puppet) performance. What a great day we had.
We hope this Kota Bharu travel guide can help you plan your trip, and decide on things to do in Kelantan, things to do in Kota Bharu, and things to do in Malaysia, as well as guiding you towards the BEST Malaysian food in the country. Check out more of our Malaysia travel vlog 2020 where we share our travel vlog, food vlog, and more!

Wow! Nipah fruit was my childhood snack whenever I went to the river to look for some clams. We also took the nipah leaves to make roofs. Damn, organizing a marriage reception back then was very labor intensive. Nowadays people will just use the canopy tents. Back then we must make the roof from nipah leaves and the skeletons from large bamboo. Nice cameo from the Travelgramers!

U should see the bigger wau they make. 10 feet hight x 20 feet wide. When the play it, it need to by tie to a truck since it can lift up man who handle it. 4. Keep exploring Kelantan, because we are the hidden gem in Malaysia tourism main stream.

Nipah's leaf can be used as roof for house. In the past people used it as a roof. My grand parent used to have that kind of roof before change to zink type roof. The roof made of nipah leaves will definitely cool down the house since nipah leaves will have a better temperature control and ventilation, hot air not trapped inside the house because this kind of roof will let hot air go out. In addition to that, the old malay house architecture have a very good ventilation if you see how the roof is put.

I would rather not apply sunscreen on head as I not sure about the chemicals.. Maybe better to use white cloth to cover for protection instead of using sunscreen and if possible wear a white cloth cap or tie a white or light coloured t shirt over head..
