I wonder what the dialogue in the ending will be if you don't process Sebastian side quest. EDIT: Tested it, and he will not mention his uncle, but the other parts are basically the same. The quest will wait for you to finish even after the house cup(Sebastian is not in the cut scene). Wish there could be an alternate ending for the Sallows, we already knew Rookwood cast the curse but the player just kill him anyway, instead of keeping him alive for information.

My headcanon for that is - there's lots of reasons why you need a spell for fire or to cut something in half, but there's no purpose for the unforgivables except to harm and control others. That's why they're banned while spells like incendio and diffindo are not (confringo is apparently restricted since it's also an aggressive spell). It's like why in real life governments ban firearms, but they can't ban knives or mallets which can technically be used to kill people much more cruelly than a gun. These are tools that aren't supposed to be used for violence.

@@ComedyLoverGirl @Peacekeeper I haven´t thought of that! You´re totally right! But, still, I joke around because many times in the books or in the games it looks like that using the spell is much more of a problem then the killing itself. Along the game we kill a lot of bad guys with other spells but with the killing curse it becomes a issue while with the others is ok

@polski8bit

I mean his uncle was an ex Auror. He most definitely knew his ways with dark magic and we never really get to know why he left the Ministry with grudges. He was most likely right. The thing that annoys me the most however, is not the uncle being an absolute asshole, but the fact that with the dialogue options the game gives you, you still DON'T have a choice. Even though I always picked the option that should realistically lead to stopping Sebastian, I was pushed towards the only outcome the devs wanted. I've never felt so disconnected from my character in a game, because my reactions and feelings were completely different. Hell, I was SCREAMING "Cast Expelliarmus or something" when Sebastian was ready to fight, KILL his uncle. Like let me knock both of them out and drag them out by force. So I've chosen to turn Sebastian in. Yeah, I don't feel sorry for his uncle because he was an asshole - maybe didn't deserve death, but not my compassion either - but there's one important detail about Sebastian. He says he didn't want to hurt his uncle. But as Ominis says, the thing with unforgivable curses is that you have to MEAN it. To WANT to cast the spell in question. Whether it's causing pain, or killing someone. Sebastian WANTED to kill his uncle. There's no way around that. He could've used ANY spell in existence, but he chose Avada Kedavra. It goes for the Imperio curse as well. I liked Sebastian in the first half of his story. His motives are definitely righteous and sweet in a way, but his methods are not. He's been warned several times, but never listened. Sure he was desperate, but as the main story teaches us - sometimes there IS no solution. Sometimes, there are fates worse than death and such a fate he's brought upon himself and Anne to be honest. I like this questline a lot, because the actual answer as to Sebastian being in the right or wrong, bring guilty or innocent is not so clear.

Fully agree. I tried to make good choices throughout the game. Tho this quest line I took the dark path bc it felt more righteous than the, "good," path imo. Idk sabastion had his stupid moments for sure. Tho like everyone said. He was a naive teenager who wanted to help his sister. His uncle was a complete prick and tried to trash on him every chance he could get for him wanting to help his sister. Sabastion had good reason and was a good person altogether. Just fell down a very dark rabbit hole trying to do the right thing for his sister. Plus I couldn't betray sabastion after he went out of his way to take the fall for you during the restricted library mission. Dude was a real homie and I didn't regret standing up for him when he killed his uncle. You never get to find out if that relic could've saved Anne or not either bc the uncle destroyed it before you guys could try it out on the curse. No matter what. It's like sabastion said. His uncle gave up on them both and didn't seem to care about helping Anne and went as far as to sabotage you both for using dark magic to try to help someone.

@@polski8bit not really these who work the path of a Auror tend to not or never use the dark arts or even study the power or uses or how to cure injuries that came from curses or hex’s. The artifact that Sebastian found allowed him control the dark powers so if used in right way where u draw out the dark power out of her body while u get someone else use healing spells aswell as allow her to drink potions that give healing effect may save her. Just never get a chance to use it that way. At same time they afraid of such power so they never touch it these who do ether feel guilty n stop or turn all evil. Solomon shouldn’t of destroyed it without checking if it actual can save her the way I mentioned. And he shouldn’t of giving up should allow her live her life how she wants while not giving up but also living like it be her last day. All he did was give up n try force her twin brother give up. Sad that ending just him realises n feels guilty and not seeing her. Hoped she forgive him and mc kills Rookwood and she gets cured after his death or his death was required for her get better.

I really wish they hadn't abandoned the idea that we might have been able to save Anne with our ability. I was really looking forward to how that would pan out, but it seems like they cut that as well and just made sebastian's story more linear. I think it would have been really interesting where you have to choose whether to help Anne with your abilities (thus treading a similar path Isidora started down, possibly earning the distrust of the keepers) or not-- and if you don't help, then Sebastian gets desperate and uses the relic. Although they'd also have to talk about why 'manipulating emotions' equated to removing dark magic curses, but I think they could have done it if the main story had been more fleshed out (what actually is ancient magic vs what's in the repositories and the connection between that and the more common magic vs dark magic).

Spoilers I’m holding on to the idea that this quest is supposed to influence our choice of if we use the ancient magic or keep it contained. Seb started off with good intentions but it sent him down a downward spiral, similar to Isidora. The difference being with isidora we only saw memories, but with seb we witnessed first hand a close friend descend into madness. Seeing as how we saw two people get destroyed by a lust for power, it might make us think twice about whether we try to use the ancient magic or keep it contained

I like that the choice to turn Sebastien is not based on the absolute morality of "good and evil", but more a personal morality of "how far is too far". As a twin myself, the whole storyline made me ask myself "how far would I go to save *my* sister?" (I'd like to think I'd go as far as Sebastien). Sebastian hands down has the best storyline of the three main side characters in my opinion.

I'm gonna be a bad guy here, i'd go even further for my sister, but, i did send him to Azkaban for what he did, after all, i do think, Solomon, being an ex auror, probably worked his ass investigating for a cure for Anne, i won't believe that he didn't unless we get a background story that says otherwise, and probably he was so angry with sebastian, because he saw his own path on him, making the mistake of going to far to search a cure, and losing everything else on the process? @lpallad1
@lpallad1 3 ай бұрын
@@Acuas Technically, if Sebastian was exaggerating one way, Solomon was exaggerating the other. Because from some points of view, it is hypocritical that Solomon used the unforgivable curses in the past but that, even though he regretted having done so, instead of warning Sebastian to prevent him from making his mistakes, he instead criticized him and judged. And Solomon was no longer looking for a cure. He had given up. And that's the reason why Sebastian checked with the dark arts to see if he could find it. And Sebastian's reasoning is justified because even with muggle medicine, to find the antidote you have to know the poison. I mean, even Doctor Strange used dark magic when it was necessary. The truth is that Solomon was a purist who saw everything in black and white. Sebastian may have provoked him when he destroyed the relic (of which we never knew whether it could really have saved Anne or not), but Solomon chose to react to that provocation instead of trying to calm him. And when Sebastian killed him with the Avada Kedavra, he got hindsight afterwards. it's true that when you use curses you have to really want it, but I think that means you have to want it at the moment you use them, not in general. So it makes sense that after killing him he regretted doing it. Because his was an impulse dictated by anger and hatred. Because after all, Solomon, instead of saving him from himself, imposed himself with arrogance, and repressed him until he exploded.
@Acuas

I mean, you might be right, the only way to know everything, is if somehow we get a DLC or another game, where we can see all the story, without that, all we can do is theory craft, and as far as that goes, I really would say that Solomon did try, we don't know if he was still trying, or found something no one else knows and that's why he stopped, the only thing about the entire story I don't like, is the fact that we the player didn't try to use ancient magic to cure her after the story, maybe this is all for a second game, or a DLC, I at least hope it's not the last game we see, even if I found the game lacking some things (would have loved to start from year 1, transform into an animagus, and finish school), it was fun, so I really would like to see more.@@lpallad1

The Sebastian storyline was good, but it had the potential to be great. It is clear the writers had a clear goal in mind with the story and didn't really consider the player's experience going through it. There are several points in the quest line that feels very contrived. Like how Uncle Solomon immediately shuts down any attempt of Sebastian's to cure his sister, instead of trying to get him to actually understand the situation. Or how Sebastian goes from friend to psycho and back again whenever the story needs him to be irrational. There were several situations where I thought it would have been great to let the player character intervene or take initiative, but instead we're mostly a passive observer who's just along for the ride. Wouldn't it be great if Sebastian actually hesitated at some points and you could influence him? Like, he's getting second thoughts about the whole thing because Ominis argued against meddling with dark magic, and you could maybe tempt him down the dark path, or you could encourage him to look for a different and better solution. A branching quest line where one path has you driving a wedge between Sebastian and Ominis as you delve deeper into the mysteries of the dark arts, where a more reasonable Solomon tries to talk Sebastian of the ledge and you can kill him to stop his meddling or drive Sebastian to do it, and actually find a cure to Anne's curse by having Sebastian sacrificing Ominis. Another path might let us discover a non-dark method of saving Anne, but at great personal sacrifice for Sebastian. Something that actually gave the player some actual agency.
@ComedyLoverGirl
@ComedyLoverGirl 11 ай бұрын
That's a really interesting idea! It's kind of parallel to the scriptorium part where you can choose to receive the cruciatus curse or cast it on Sebastian. It's like the theme of would you sacrifice yourself to keep your friends out of harm's way, or would you sacrifice your friends if it meant getting closer to your goals? Either way don't hurt our MVP Ominis though. He doesn't deserve it. xD

I didn’t turn him in. I’m glad I did that because he gets time to better grasp his actions and what led him there. It could even lead to him renouncing the dark arts and finding ways to properly redeem himself. Sending him to Azkaban is like a final sentence. He gets no redemption and will likely never be seen again. Then it’s hypocritical of us because we helped him and learned a few things from him. He also helped us a lot. His uncle literally tries to burn us both to death yet Sebastian has somehow 'gone too far' by casting Avada Kedavra on him in a fury. He had every right. His uncle ruined their chances of helping Anne, attempted murder, and if he had been allowed to live after losing the fight would have turned him and the player in to Azkaban. Don't forget how he said Anne dying would be preferable to Sebastian using Imperio to save her life. Solomon never wanted to see either of them healthy, he was an abusive figure who wanted both his young relatives to suffer and went out of his way to make sure they did. Stoking his desperation to find a cure and his fear of losing Anne, along with his animosity with his uncle and his misplaced hatred of Goblins. I really enjoyed Sebastian as a companion, despite some of his questionable behaviour. Only things with a 'soul' can do that. It's possible it could I guess but it's really unlikely it has a life of its own like the other things. Sebastian would have pushed it until he landed in Azkaban even if he wasnt turned in he's a villain that's hard to see as evil but he doesn't care about his friends and his obsession with obtaining the power to be his sister at the cost of everything or everyone is psychotic. I played Slytherin the first time and Sebastian was my ride or die. I loved his character. I could see his descent into darkness and was totally torn about practicing dark arts with him, but I still wanted to help him try to find a cure no matter the cost. He really had the best intentions and his uncle was just making everything worse, especially attacking him in the catacombs rather than trying to help him. It wasn't until Sebastian made the comment about the MC being ignorant about goblins that I got kind of fed up, but I still couldn't turn him in. I like getting to see more of Ominis in the other ending just because he's my favorite character, but I feel getting Sebastian expelled and most likely sent to Azkaban would just put him on the path to being another Victor Rookwood, not to mention the torture he would endure at only 15 years old. Yes, what he did to his uncle and the goblin under the Imperius curse was unforgivable and that darkness and willingness to take a life will always be there inside him, but at least being at school with the people who love him would be more constructive. He deserved to be punished, but I was also thinking about Anne and Ominis too. They would have no one if Sebastian was arrested. That decision impacts more than just him. The consequences will just have to be for Sebastian to live his life knowing what he did and that the two most important people in his life will never forgive him for it.

The entire questline was the best part of the game for me. Only problems I have is the option on what to do with him, it's either one or the other and one of them is too much for a child. Then there's the fact that you can't get Ominus in the undercroft saying sweet things like, 'you've proven to be a true/friend' unless you send Sebastian to Azkaban. At the end of the day as a Hufflepuff I couldn't do it, out of loyalty, and for my slytherin I couldn't do that to my fellow housemate whom I learned the curses from because that would be extremely hypocritical. That's like saying I should turn myself in as well. Basically I personally think he's suffering enough, what with having killed a family member and having driven Anne away whom may never forgive him and has gone somewhere and not told him. For me, pretty much severing his relationship with his sister possibly forever is punishment enough

Tough choice but I choose not to turn him in. If it was just prison, I would probably have done it. But giving him, or anyone else to dementors when there is a chance they might be redeemed or rehabilitated. NO. And I believe he really will try to make up for what he did, and he learned a hard but valuable lesson, sadly. No, I can't turn him in if I'm playing a character even remotely like me. A favorite author of mine said something that’s stuck with me: “most bad things aren’t inherently bad, they’re good things gone wrong.” When something good grows inordinate, is misapplied, or remains unchecked by other virtues, it can go wrong. This storyline is a good demonstration of that-even good intentions and good goals, unchecked by virtues of restraint, wisdom, and respect for the wishes of others, can go very very badly. The things which drew me to admire Sebastian’s character at the beginning of his story eventually became the things that doomed him. I hope the regret he feels at the end is proof he can take an adamantly different path. One of the strongest advocates for good can often be a person who at one time did the opposite, but turned their life around.
@meggie19
@meggie19 8 ай бұрын
I haven’t seen anyone else consider this idea. I think the ideal solution is in between sending him to Azkaban and letting him get away with it with the potential to become a truly dark wizard. The best solution is for him to make an unbreakable vow. Imagine if MC could give him the ultimatum, be sent to Azkaban or make an unbreakable vow to never cast the 3 unforgivable curses/use dark magic ever again. The fear with not sending him to Azkaban, that he could keep going down this dark path, would be avoided and no longer a concern. Better yet, imagine if MC could have made him swear before they ever went to retrieve the artifact, preventing his uncle’s death? When Ominis made him promise to stay away from the dark arts, that would have been a perfect opportunity to make him vow. Perhaps there could have been multiple opportunities to make him vow, based on when MC/the player decides enough is enough. Seems like the best solution, because while he needs to stop and was wrong to kill his uncle- he isn’t deserving of rotting away for life in Azkaban. He’s morally grey, with both good and bad. I believe Azkaban should be for those that are truly evil and beyond saving.

He's 15 for crying out loud. No 15 year old should have to go through that when there's still room to grow and change. If he were an adult it'd be a different story. Plus his uncle was an ass who didn't even bother to try and see things from Sebastian's point of view. He had no sympathy for him and he gets none from me. Sure, he didn't deserve death. I love the Sebastian quest mainly for the fact that it is the only one where you can truly be evil. And I don't mean by having the obvious option of learning the curses. My favorite thing to do during that questline was egging on Sebastian with all of his mania to save Anne, and pushing him to learn and use the curses and get the relic, and then when talking to Ominis I would play innocent and say I tried to stop Sebastian and we should intervene before he does something stupid. Then after Seb kills Solomon I loved turning him in, and telling Ominis that Sebastian brought all the consequences on himself, even though I was the one backing him and fueling his descent the whole time. Truly made me feel like an evil, asshole wizard, and in my head canon my character will blame all the people I killed with the unforgivable's on Sebastian, as he is an easy scape goat now. Ah, it is truly fun being a despicable dark wizard who throws someone who thought I was their friend under the bus, especially after he taught me all the unforgiveable curses that he is going to end up going to Azkaban for, haha.

Where else not turning in Sebastian will result in him not continuing down dark path, actually wanting to make an amends. While I think realistically turning in Sebastian is the right thing to do, and not turning in Sebastian would just enable him. I think made the "not turning in Sebastian" ending like was so that it was an option to to keep Sebastian around and it still feel like you got a happy ending.
