Great project Mike, it's good to see that Richard is still turning, his KZfaq channel is one of my favorites, I look forward to seeing his videos as much as yours ! Richard is a true gem, I miss the Utah turning symposiums , I have met so many wonderful people and turning professionals ,and learned so much through those trips.

I find these very appealing. Now that I’ve proven to myself that I can make something perfectly round, you’ve given me inspiration to branch out. Thank you!

Hi Mike, when you say green wood what sort of moisture content are you saying, I didn’t see any wetness coming off the blank Great video mate thanks for the inspiration, im off to watch Richard Raffin video now 👊

This blank was about 25%. I'd recommend using anything 20% or higher moisture content.

Didn’t you say to match the angle of your dovetail jaws?
@OregonOldTimerWOODTURNING
@OregonOldTimerWOODTURNING 4 ай бұрын
I noticed that, too. Tenon dovetail was a hair more acute than the jaws. I'm beginning to think that matching the angle precisely isn't as important as we've been taught. But I'm new at this, and my opinions change frequently.🤔

Good eye, the dovetail had just a bit more taper than needed. However the wood fibers will compress in the jaws enough to still maintain a proper grip. -Mike 😊

Really enjoy the videos and look forward to making this project. May need to do a little basket illusion on the outside. Question for you, Mike: For this project, is there any reason why you could not use a Forstner bit and/or hollowing tools like the easy wood hollowers in this project? I have not done much hollowing, so I might be missing something.
@markb8954
@markb8954 4 ай бұрын
Yes, you could use a few different ways to hollow out this vessel. The method Mike used takes out a lot quickly. Forstner bit of course takes out as much depending on the size, followed by smaller tools for cleaning up like the Easy Woodworking tools & other scrapers.

@@markb8954 Thanks. Like I indicated, I dont have a lot of experience with hollowing so I was not sure if I was missing something that is intuitive to others more experienced. Much appreciated.

You definitely could use a forstner bit to remove the bulk of material. Easy hollowers would work really well for these projects, the swan neck on those tools would make it easy to follow the form of the pots. -Mike

There are 24.5 mm per inch. 4 inches is about 100 mm.

The French scraper, is that the same as a negative rake scraper?
@CraftSuppliesUSA
@CraftSuppliesUSA 4 ай бұрын
French scrapers have a "French Curve" on the nose. Negative rake scrapers are ground with a top and bottom bevel.
