Turning our ABANDONED LAND into an OFF-GRID HOMESTEAD | Making a Food Forest

Күн бұрын

We left our city lives behind and moved to the top of a mountain in Spain, to live off-grid. We’ve spent 2 years alone, renovating an ancient stone house and restoring the abandoned land.
Recently on our homestead, we have been planning AND planting a food forest. We wanted to make a video just for that, but decided it was far too boring. So we have included all this other stuff instead: Emilia learns how to use a chainsaw (and chops down a small woodland). Robbie finds a rare fossil and wants to see it for millions €€€. We go to a party in the mountains. Emilia’s role model, Kylie Jenner, inspires her to harvest a field of squash and Emilia searches for bath time sponsors.
Join us as we continue to build our off-grid homestead, and become self-sufficient from the land.

You know I am a fan. I truly wish you would add either dates when it was posted, or episodes. It shows up randomly in my feed and I am not sure if I have seen and responded. (As if what I have to say...) Shout out to the Editor and the Main Shooter, your eye and insight into editing is impeccable. Love his work, love the progression. Lastly with this video I see and trust Owl Man's vision from the jump.

Thanks Larry! That's a cool idea, maybe we can start adding episode numbers to the titles so people can see which episode we are on, it's nice to understand how things are progressing for us too! I have told the Owl man about your kind words on his editing, he is very happy!

hi, nice films about your life there. What I did notice is a bit of safety, especially with the chainsaw, helmet, okay, glasses, okay, but no saw pants or safety shoes. If you slip ONE time you will lose toes or your lower leg and that is less if you live so remote there, otherwise wonderful, keep it up, greetings John from the Netherlands

Hi John, thank you for your comment and care for our safety! You are absolutely right, we’re just learning how to us a chainsaw correctly, and having had a few somewhat near misses (especially in this video) we realise that chainsaw boots are very necessary, we’ve just bought some actually! What are saw pants? Do they stop a chainsaw blade?
@johnsteens4795
@johnsteens4795 4 ай бұрын
Hi Hi. Saw trousers are trousers specially made for use with a chainsaw. If you overshoot with the saw, these trousers brake the saw and ensure that your legs are protected, so you do not cut your leg. They are not that expensive, a leg is more expensive haha greetings John from the beautiful Netherlands (Limburg)@@ladyandtheowlman

Might be a bit late, but the nail polish remover smell indicates the vinegar isn't completing fermentation. Might be not enough oxygen with those lids, I think most people just put a cloth over the top with an elastic band or string. Maybe stir some air in to kick it along. Beautiful spot you've got, but I don't envy you all the wild animals, our selection of critters are enough of a challenge! Good luck.

That’s cool, what kind of trees do you have? You’re totally right, looking after trees is a lot of work, feeding them, pruning them, watering them, cultivating the soil, finding new solutions to bugs! Although we’re really motivated to grow enough trees so we can be self sufficient from the land.

Try planting MUSTARD. It needs to be cut and embedded in the ground before flowering. Over a few years, this will improve the softness and quality of the soil.
@ladyandtheowlman
@ladyandtheowlman Ай бұрын
Never heard of this before but it sounds like a great solution, we’ll make sure to try it thanks Andrey! Do you mean cut back the mustard plant and lay it into the ground each year (before flowers form on the plant) like mulch?
@andreypolyakov9410
@andreypolyakov9410 Ай бұрын
need to cut it before flowers (this way it have a lot of useful forces inside) and dig so that the stems are in the ground. We do it two years and turn our soil to the good one (nothing want to grow there before)! UPD: we used lawn mower for cut it. Wife told that you can leave it as mulch on the ground, but in ground it will work better. In two years you even no need showel for gardening - soil becomes soft as feathers and there are a lot of worms
