She is gifted with a flat turnout but pleeeeaaase keep your own anatomy in mind. I worked with flat turnout and forced my body everyday and did all the strengthening but I ended up having multiple injuries in my knees, hips, back and feet and only after a surgery in my knee I've excepted my anatomy. And belive me working with my anatomy I got me so much better. Don't break your bodies, work with them!

I agree. Its not about not trying hard enough its about knowing your limit. Some people has limited hip range due to the bone structure itself making it impossible for them to turn out completely. But on the other hand, I do believe her videos benefit many other people too. All the best everyone!

I agree with subscribers who wrote that Maria very well explained usefulness of every exercise. This workout by the way shows how difficult is to prepare the body to master the elements of the ballet. It's big effort every day requiring great health, mental strength and of course talent. That's why I admire ballet dancers.

Ahhh, finally, somebody who decided not to wear black dresses!!!! I don't know why most dancers, male and female always show the exercises dressed in black. We can so much more see the muscles moving in this dressing here!!!! Also thanks for the diagonal positioning of the bar, which also most of the dancers avoid to do and they lose so much visual info in this. Also the general lightning is done well, so my honest congratulation Maria, you made a huge step to help also not professional people to understand better the development of the movements, thank you!!!

Once again, I'm far from being a professional ballet, but I loved how this exercise made me feel. I haven't practiced ballet since a teenager, and never ever had much flexibility to the back or much of a turnout at all (I started at age 13). My arabesques are pretty lousy - I can only get a few inches off the floor! The developes from the back in this workout - I literally could not lift my leg off the floor! (at least not with trying to lead from my knee). But as small as my ability and progress iis, I can feel those small muscles working, bringing my body back into proper alignment and helping to relieve my back issues (done slowly and carefully with modifications, of course). Had these videos been around when I was younger, I would have been much more successful as a dancer. Thank you so much for sharing this with us!

@@K_ballet Partially agree. Your comment is a bit of a generalization. I know many people 45+ who can easily stretch full out. I know many people 45+ who are in much, much better shape than younger people. If someone who is 45+ starts ballet, then, of course, just like younger people who start ballet as adults, then of course they have to be extra careful, not stretching before warming up and learning to stretch progressively after class. It can be done, but it takes dedication and care every day.

Hey, what do you all think about this exercise. I've been doing it for a while and I feel like it helps with my standing leg: Stand with your left shoulder facing the mirror, feet in parallel. Retiré your left leg, turn it out and then slowly swivel your body towards the mirror, only using your turnout muscles and butt, not moving your standing foot. Take care to not let your working foot go banana and keep the arch of your standing foot lifted. I feel like it helps me getting used to the feeling of a really turned out standing leg, and it really gets all the turning and lifting muscles in your hips engaged without putting strain on the knees. It also helps with balance.

@mariakhoreva I have a question about the exercise you do where you’re laying on your stomach and you go into fifth position and you do leg raises from fifth position. I noticed that when you do this you live your hip off the ground of the leg that is in fifth to the back meaning the leg that is on top as you’re laying on your stomach is this also what happens when you’re standing in fifth Because I always thought that the hipbones should stay in the same plane or is it at the foot that is behind you carry the hipbone with it so that actually in fifth position your hips are not in the same plane but they’re sort of at a diagonal as it is here when you’re laying on the floor? Does this make sense? Meaning I noticed that you don’t keep both of your hip bones on the floor one side is lifted up off the floor the side with the leg that is going to the back which is on top laying on your stomach.

@@zevssilver that’s fine in your opinion because you’re not a ballet dancer, but this video is intended for real dancers in training to properly engage the right muscles in technique classes. Turn out technique is training from the hips and VMO/inner thighs, not the feet although she will accentuate movements with foot articulation (to show how turnout technique improves the foot angle and ballet lines). Keeping muscles warm is very important during warmups, hence her socks. You can always enjoy her beautiful esthetics on her other performances/rehearsal videos. Most her technique training videos on this channel will be done with socks to keep her feet warm and pliable. I understand socks cuts her ballet lines short, but this video is for proper training for real dancers (we all wear socks for comfort in warmups).
