I remember finishing Evolution, wondering how to get the 'true' ending. Yes, that cliffhanger actually left me so confused, I was certain that there had to be more to it. I played it over and over, even on hardest difficulty without cheats to try and unlock an ending that never existed. All this was during a time of magazines, a time without internet for me. I loved the game, despite its lack of quality in comparison to the predecessors. However, that cliffhanger forever left me unsatisfied.

Ah Turok Evolution, the development of that game is one of the most interesting things I’ve ever read about. The game itself had many of its wildlife and other interesting things cut from it. (Even though a lot of it remains in the code) The interesting thing is I know a guy who owns a beta and from what I’ve seen of it and according to him it’s got more content than the finished game, which is strange. Also the Slegs voices are apparently normal (they have no gargling in their voices) This game personally has a lot of sentimental value to me being one of the first games I ever played, I can recognize it has some major problems. But I love it anyways, flaws and all.

And the next game in the series will be an open-world FPS. Where you make your own character in character creation. And hunt dinosaurs and other creatures, using materials to craft and upgrade weapons. And/or sell or trade marks for better gear. Turok Dino Headhunter. After Turok 2008. That actually sounds somewhat decent. On paper.

Turok Rage Wars was a staple party game when I was a kid alongside Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Mario Kart, and Ridge Racer. The extra unlockable characters, missions, 2 player co-op (that was literally impossible to beat unless you had a grey cart), and multitude of maps and modes made it a great addition to the library back in the day. That being said, I don't think I would pick it up again if there were a re-release.

Well, let’s do the calcs. The first life appeared on Earth at least 3.77 billion years ago. Since then, evolution has been constantly working. A millennia / 3.77 billion = 2.65x10^-7, or 1/3,770,000. Now for baking. The usual time to bake a cake is under an hour, but I’ll round up. 60 minutes = 3,600 seconds. 3,600 / 3,770,000 = 9.55x10^-4 seconds, or basically a millisecond. So a millennia in evolutionary terms is almost quite literally a millisecond in baking terms.

I got the original Turok N64 at launch and loved it back then. Never had the two sequels or Rage Wars back then though. Guess I got busy with Rare's Goldeneye 64. I had some of those 90s Valiant comics and they were pretty cool. Better stories than the games. I did have Turok Evolution and I think it's not as bad as some claimed. As for Turok 2008? I enjoyed it, bought it at launch for 360. Funny that Walt Disney made a decent M rated FPS game back then lol. The sequel to Turok 2008 actually sounded pretty great. Too bad Disney cancelled it and closed the devs despite Turok 2008 selling enough to get a sequel. Definitely could use a single player focused dinosaur FPS action game backed by today's tech. That or a Dino Crisis remake.

Great video. Been a fan of the series since I was a kid and beat every game you covered in the retrospective. I liked Turok 08. I know its not really a Turok game but I don't care. As pointed out in the video the dinosaur models and animations were 10/10. The Scorpions too, those things were creepy as hell. I got every achievement for the game, beating it on very hard was bullshit but I did it. I also sank a lot of time into the online multiplayer which the game did have a community in. Here's the thing. Whats the alternative dinosaur shooter? I'll wait... yeah. I know there isn't an alternative. Turok 08 fills a very specific niche as the best dinosaur FPS.
@Gruntvc
@Gruntvc 4 жыл бұрын
I enjoy Turok 2008. Its sequel would've been a bit more in line with classic Turok than Aliens 1986 but with dinosaurs. Not that Aliens with dinosaurs isn't bad, I thought that was awesome. But, there was another good/decent dinosaur FPS games on 360/PS3. Jurassic The Hunted developed by the Caludron and published by Activision. Came out after Turok 2008, but definitely did not have the budget Turok did. Worst Turok game is this new one that released this year from 2019. Jesus, why...
@Scorpion122178
@Scorpion122178 4 жыл бұрын
@@Gruntvc Yeah I own Jurassic the Hunted too. Definitely not as good as Turok 08, extremely short. Also I'm not sure if this is true but 08 also had a fair bit of innovation with how dinosaurs interacted with sounds and light. Same with the Scorpions. idk, I of course prefer the bonkers lost land story line but this game wasn't bad. It was a popcorn action movie story line with really great graphics for the time and entertaining gun play. It wasn't even mentioned how each gun actually has too functions, something they took from Evolution. I know generic SMG, Shogun and Pulse Rifle doesn't seem exciting but honestly the knife mechanics were perfect and so was the bow mechanics. And both those things really lent itself to the stealth aspect of the game. Which is also somewhat underrated. You can go in guns blazing or you could go entire levels with out getting in a firefight. As for the generic guns I got a lot of entertainment from things like the flare launcher attachment for the shotgun or the silencer on the SMG. Pluse Rifle had an energy grenade launcher if I remember right. There was the sniper rifle which everyone spammed online along with the knife. There was a rocket launcher, a flamethrower, and a sticky gun that would fire a stick ball of explosives that can detonate on contact or by remote. Sticky gun was probably the most fun and creative. It really bummed me out to learn they had planned a sequel but canceled.
@Gruntvc
@Gruntvc 4 жыл бұрын
StraightShooterGaming, Jurassic The Hunted was definitely budget Turok. Yeah, he failed to mention the alt fires/modes of the weapons in Turok 2008. The minigun could be placed as a sentry turret. Really helped out during that giant flying bug sequence. The flare on the shotgun was very useful. It generally distracted dinos. But was great at getting dinos to go after the human soldiers or other dinos too. The bow also had explosive arrows that could gib dinos. And normal arrows could pin human enemies to walls/objects. I think there was an achievement on Xbox 360 for that. Sticky explosive gun was very cool too. I think you could dual them too. Turok 2008 was good, definitely not the best Turok, but it definitely was not the worst either. It did sell enough to greenlight a great sounding sequel. Unfortunately, most other Disney games flopped around that time. So, they pulled the plug on most of their developers. I think Propaganda was working on an open world Pirates of the Caribbean game that had potential too at the time.
@dhwwiiexpert

Turok ‘08 would probably have done better had it not been marketed as Turok. Legacy characters are hard to change in a way that satisfies fans, and Turok ‘08 is a good example. Instead, it could have been its own IP. Of course, an adequate dev cycle could also have helped, but point stands.
