I’m trying to convince my High School niece to learn how to do this herself. She will be cable to fix her own phone when she breaks it, fix her school-mates phones when they break it and maybe even earn a bit of extra pocket money. Well done Hugh, on making entertaining and educational content and sharing what you know.

mood grab a plastic playing card spray it with alcohol and stick it under the battery on the bottom left side and when it's in there wiggle it half way up make sure you dont go all the way up because you run the risk of tearing a flex cable if the card gets stuff spray more alcohol so it lubricated the adhesive off the battery/case.... EASY

I figured out a super easy way to get it out. Just pry from the right....... Just requires the motherboard to be out. 😂 Worked for me anyways.
@176cgna
@176cgna 5 жыл бұрын
Ilikeboost lol yes that's easy but that takes twice as long. I can replace the battery without removing the lcd or the board. Just removing the bottom screws and the 2 screws that hold the battery shield and that's it.

176cgna yeah I know it takes super long to pull the board. I was just joking because I pulled the motherboard on this phone and then broke the left pull tab. Btw to any us Viewers the motherboard is on eBay: rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F223235821585

I just replaced my battery and display using Hugh's stepthrough. Here's some points: 1. It took me about 2 hours and I have changed the battery before so I have some experience. Still I didn't anticipate the difficulty of the display replacement process and how much attention you need to pay to every step. Make sure you watch the video at least once before trying the operation yourself, and visualize the steps! 2. The heat shield for my phone has 3 screws on the right side (not 2 like he mentions) so in all i had 7 screws for the heat shield 3. When you put back the heat shield pay really good attention especially to the top screw hole, it needs to be to the right of the screw hole on the display! The screw goes first through the shield hole and then through the display hole. 4. Make sure the connector for the home button is not trapped under the headshield when you put it back! 5. Make sure the wide part at the top of the display goes under the head shield 6. Pay really close attention to the module with the ear speaker and sensor etc, there are a lot of parts, watch the video very closely! Depending on the replacement you buy you will have to remove some plastic film in order to expose the glue that will hold together the module. 7. When you disconnect the 3 top connectors for the display, on the back case of the phone there might be some glue residue left around the connectors, make sure that doesn't get in the way when you try to put in the new display. 8. Put in the blue frame glue after you have put in the battery and after you have done a test fitting for the connectors!! It will prevent your hands from sticking to the double sided tape. 9. Watch out when you reconnect the home button to the connector, first you need to place the connector in it's little space and then connect the home button connector which itself needs to go in a specific position. 10. Be very patient, have good lighting and don't rush it! I had to remove the heat shield 3 times due to things I looked over. 11. Only do this if you can afford to lose your phone. If it's your only phone or you really need it, just go to a repair shop; yes, you'll pay more but you'll have the guarantee it works after!

thanks for the detail! i'll be attempting this soon, i havent yet seen the phone but i'm told the display is separated from the body but not cracked. do you mind sharing where you bought tools and components? i haven't done anything like this before, but i'm getting the phone for free.

Little tip for the battery. I do these all day working in a repair shop. Remove the tab slightly then drop some isopropyl alcohol on the tab, this will cause it to slide under the battery loosening the adhesive and lubricating it.

Hi Hugh, I have been following your videos and tutorials. I have a few questions since I could rescue from our office dumpster an Iphone 6S that actually has a new battery, a new screen but some missing parts inside that were not installed back. 4 screws fro the Screen connector holder, one scree fro the home screen button, and the two screws of the bottom of the Iphone that secures the screen to the Iphone case. In addition the vibrate mode button is kind of blocked when closing the Iphone with the screen. I do not know if the screen has been messed up and they have put another screen and stand on the way with the vibrate no vibrate button. Further more the Iphone and screen work however prompt the notification to connect the iphone to Itunes and also shows support.apple.com/iphone/restore. Have try to do it connecting to my lap top and itunes but nothing happens. I am new on this and I am interested to see how can I fix this iphone and bring it to run again in a descent way. Please any advise is very welcome as well suggestions and ideas. Thanks a lot and you have very nice videos.

In my opinion the battery adhesive strips are really easy to take out. You just need to go slow and steady. Straight as well of course. I've never broken one and I have been repairing phones for a while now. I like them as well because they don't leave any residue on the phone or battery.

Hi Hugh. I bought an iPhone 6 with an old battery that needed to be replaced. I bought an off brand battery for £20 GBP. 20 days later the battery showed alot of signs that it was on its way out. The health went from 100% down to just 42% and is swelling slowly, however, its still working and says its performing at optimal speed. How long do u think it has left? And can u link me to a good website that sells decent iPhone 6 batteries. Thanks -Dom
