Worked really well on my 5.3 swapped Chevy s10 with universal cats, I’m attempting to learn to tune this truck myself this was this first modification I’ve made to the already okay driving file

@@CanyonTuned It seems to only pop at 3-4k RPM, any higher or any lower and it doesn't pop at all, I followed all the steps in the video, any tips? Tysm! (I have a vid of the pops posted as my most recent video)

Yeah I've noticed that too actually, you may want to add in some additional fuel (just a very small amount) or try to take some more timing out of it

It also just hit me yours is a gen iv so there could be other decel timing tables that are taking over. Try to log timing and see if its actually pulling it correctly

Confirmed on a 2004 z06 with -5 degrees. I have yet to drive it. Once warmed up it performed(sounded) as expected.

Good to hear! A lot of people are changing 5+ tables and making things more complicated then they have to be. This method is easy

@@CanyonTuned just got back from a drive. -5 didn't do much. Went -10 and it's occasional in only 3rd gear and above. I did set the park and drive tables the same and also the minimum spark retard table. I could throw fuel at it but I just wanted to see how this worked. Stock everything with bad cats haha

@@CanyonTuned Update: after a month, my throttle started sticking open at the rpm range i modified. I went back to original settings and fixed it.

Note for all: my 04 z06 was holding the throttle open after lifting from this. No other changes or mods. Something to be aware of. Only way to reset it was to shutoff the ignition.

You must have something else going on, there's no reason throttle hang would happen from this. I have the same car 04 z06

Log your TPS and report back, i'm curious what the numbers are when this is happening

@@CanyonTuned I haven't logged before. Is that an upgraded feature? After a pull, the throttle was hanging open in the RPM range I had altered and just sitting there. Shutting off the ignition and restarting brought the idle back down to normal. If I go back, I'll log it but I don't want to risk damaging the o2 sensors with the extra heat.

Logging is built into hptuners, also I would check that your throttle body is working properly mechanically and that you don't have vaccum leaks. I've done this on a few cars now and haven't run into this

@@CanyonTuned I'll look into logging. No leaks, I had the intake off a couple months ago. Just found a lot of oil sitting in it. Added a check valve and a catch can to the pcv line. Idle is normal. Everything is clean and in good shape.

With most ECUs just edit the main timing table. Change your low load/high rpm cells to negative timing. Then in your fuel table add a little bit in the same load/rpm cells. You might have deceleration settings that turn off fuel when letting off the throttle, change those to add a little fuel on deceleration. Fuel + retarded timing = pops/bangs

So would you recommend writing it for every different change that you do as far as each table and then go back to see if you need to change more and then load it

You should only need to play with the negative(-) timing to increase the pop effect, just keep saving versions (save as) as you figure things out

Did you notice much difference in fuel economy with a maf+SD setup? Thinking about doing the same thing, SD seems to be wack in low throttle situations.

Also, what kind of kPa did you pull on decel? My car never seems to get below 34 on decel. Problematic as this is within my cruising zone.

The stock ecu is setup to always hit your target afr based on o2 feedback and fuel trims. You'll really only gain fuel economy by adding some timing in cruising conditions to make the engine more efficient

Try harder. It's worked for literally hundreds of people at this point. You probably have an auto and need to mess with some additional tables

Hey done this on my 02 Camaro 4L60E and It only does it in park shoots a big flame and sounds good but in drive If I manually downshift it it does not work I only get the popping effect in park

I believe for automatic cars there's a 2nd table you need to modify. It should be in the same section as the table in the video

did you modified idle spark advance "in park" and "in drive" as well? both tables are only for throttle closed conditions. the High octane and low octane tables are for conditions where throttle is open in any ways

Would you say that this help with burning unburnt fuel that was otherwise just going to be released to the atmosphere?

Technically it would be less efficient since you're burning fuel in the exhaust instead of the engine

@@CanyonTuned But if you're not adding any fuel to the tables then the engine can't benefit from it? I'm thinking environment wise, if you retard timing so that the unburnt fuel ignites in your exhaust, wouldn't that benefit the environment instead of letting the unburnt fuel go to the atmosphere?

@@z3r3pmoto It would be worse emissions wise, retarding timing and burning fuel in the exhaust will just overheat the cats and make them work outside of their efficiency zone. Not to mention you will blow the cells out of your cats after a while as well. But yes, you are not consuming any additional fuel (unless you modify your fuel maps as stated in the video).

Take as much timing out as possible some ecus you can do like -25, turn off decel fuel cut, and add a bunch of fuel in the decel area of your ve table

Hey, I’ve been trying to get a good crackle letting off the gas above 3K RPM on my 2000 Z28 but I can’t get it to go and I’m as low as -30 degrees. You mentioned richening the MAF but never mentioned reading idle and going off that. How does one go about that?

So I did do this, and from a standstill idle is about 5.5g/sec I think. Can’t remember, all I remember is all the values for the MAF calibration were above that to begin with. What am I missing?

7.5g/s. Still a lower reading than the stock MAF settings. Don’t know how it should work.

Tuning cars requires attention to detail. By default the logger and editor will be in two different units of measurement so you're not even looking at the same scale like for like. Secondly, unless you disable DEFCO, decel fuel cut. None of those maf air flow changes are even going to matter.

You just have to retard the timing more, also add a bit of fuel in your VE/MAF tables on decel

The LSA already has it built in from my experience. You should be able to get darn close to their stock tune as a jumpoff.

@@scottleggejr Has what from stock? I have an LS3, but I was just wondering about the particular settings. I still haven’t messed with my HP Tuners in that DSCO (can’t remember the name) section or whatever. I’m shooting flames if I rev bomb above 5-6k, and backfiring occasionally above 3-3.5k on upshifts and revving. I’m currently running offroad/catless connection pipes to my long tube headers, and non-resonated mid pipes, so I’m not surprised. Lol I do have mufflers, but they’re probably getting burnt out from me doing that.

@@isnowyazn You should be able to find an LSA hpt file online and compare the tables. The LSA has a significant crack/pop on decel when you engine brake. Specifically, you would NOT want enrichment on a boost blowoff event.

The only tuning I’ve messed with, is through a basic (1-hr long) HP Tuners “tutorial” by some dude on KZfaq, where he basically just smoothens out the enrichment levels and turns on and off some management stuff (CAGS, etc).

Nope! That's the best part. The way I have it configured it only changes the idle advance at higher rpms. I noticed no throttle response issues either

My C5 is an auto, with a decent sized cam. It chops hard in park neutral but as soon as I turn the AC on it smoothes out quite a bit. I know its the added air when the compressor kicks on but I can't find the table to lower it on the gen 3. Any help would be appreciated brother. Im still trying to learn tuning so kind of new at this.

Oh shoot, you know I was just looking at those tables the other day! I think there's specific tables for AC fuel/spark. I'll have to see where that is again. Usually cars will have higher idle targets when the ac is on. Aka less cam chop

Depends on how aggressive the timing retard is, but if you have HP tuners you probably deleted the cats anyway 🤷‍♂️

Did you change the idle under/overspeed conditions? If so that could be causing the rev hang since it's overcorrecting on throttle closure. Log the car while it's happening (especially TPS % and timing) when the issue is occuring@@colincornell4261
