what's the problem with pensions? every company has to offer a work place pension to its employees, they can't just not offer one. It is where a lot of money goes though, think about your local council. Everybody has a salary and a pension, a lot of council tax is spent on that.

The original BBC pension scheme, which closed circa 2006, was a 3:1 job. Employees could put in as much of their (inflated) salaries as they wanted and the BBC used license fee money to put in three times what the employee did. (In reality all four parts of the contribution came out of the licence fee of course.) Hence we had BBC employees retiring with £4 million pension pots. That's when we got rid of our TV and licence. When that scheme was closed a black hole immediately opened up - no new contributors or BBC contributions to the old scheme. The BBC filled that black hole by taking 7.5% of the licence fee for two consecutive years; a huge amount of money. So yes, hatred of the BBC is all about pensions, pensions, pensions.

The ironic part is. The BBC lost the goose (Clarkson & Co) that lays the golden egg, but hung on to the retired hen, (Lineker) who not only cost a king's ransom to keep, but loses licence payers in droves🙃

They were so smug and i really feel like they were trying to catch me out and prosecute the white rather than give me my money back. I had to get my mp’s office to help, if i didn’t keep the receipts and have a popular make of pc and scanner (oh yes naturally the lady from Pakistan/India/Bangor Diesh couldn’t open my scan that i sent to prove i’d paid) i’d be as screwed as a post office manager.

I worked as a debt adviser for Citizens Advice. It was a link to your videos that I would send to clients to convince them that as long as they weren't watching live broadcast TV or BBC iplayer, they could easily save £13.25 each month. In fact, there was a lot of fear among people believing they would be prosecuted for simply having a television without a licence.

The tv licence is NOT a priority bill. Having a tv is not essential to life/wellbeing - quite the reverse in fact! Anyway, as we all know, you can still regularly ‘enjoy’ watching tv perfectly legally, u dear the circumstances outlined by CJC here.
@akoola7853
@akoola7853 5 ай бұрын
@@sayitlikeitis8759 The difference between a priority and non-priority debt depends on the punitive measures a creditor can take. Council tax debt can, so they say, result in imprisonment for non-payment. The same goes for fines or HMRC debts. Energy companies can disconnect your supply but they frequently abuse the Gas/Eectricity Acts to justify breaking into homes to swap credit meters for prepayment meters. The Gas Act, for example, only allows for forced entry to prevent damage or destruction to persons or property. Since when does changing a meter become an emergency? As for non-payment of TV licence, it can be criminalised and (very rarely) result in imprisonment. Also, you can end up with a fine which, as stated above, is a priority debt. The public need educating about what rights they have and as ChilliJonCarne says, do not to open doors to the goons or close the door and make no comments. You do not have to say anything but it may harm your defence blah blah... Heed the advice; DON'T SAY ANYTHING!

I went to work in a local town hall recently. It's been closed since the scamdemic. BBC were filming there. Public cannot go in to their own towns municipal building. BBC get it though. I also studied film in uni. All it takes to make a new program is a camera and an idea. That's it. BBC used to know this. But now it's not about making TV shows. It's about propoganda. And that requires big funding for it to take root.

I have, too. It was a number of years ago and I could see Casualty being filmed from the secondary school I was attending at the time. I was rather surprised at the sheer number of the people and vehicles there, crowding the street. @@mikoto7693 Clearly the BBC budgets are open chequebook and the staff are on the pay roll anyway. Compare it to a film crew making a film (I've also seen that too, the film '71) they were far more constrained and even hired locals for extra work. I think they did about 30 minutes in a few days.

Under UK anti-monopoly laws the commercial arm of the BBC, known as BBC Worldwide cannot exchange funds with the non-commercial, publicly funded BBC for any reason. I stopped paying in 2009. My late partner and I didn't watch it and my kids who were 2 and 4 yrs at the time occasionally watched cebeebies (which was mostly repeats anyway). We saw it as a complete waste of money - plus I've not liked the BBC for years. No one misses it. A year after I unsubscribed I had a goon visit (a pair of them). They thought they had me, so I let them in. My kids were watching a dvd on a pc. Our analogue 'tv' was connected to my N64 (this was post digital changeover). I offered them a game of Mario Kart... needless to say they declined lol. As they left and after slagging off the BBC, I told them I would be charging them £145.50 (the licence cost at that time) for their next surprise visit for wasting my time. They have never come back. I know I didn't have to let them in but I have nothing to hide, I genuinely do not watch their shite. It was also fun bursting their bubble - they really thought they had me. 🤣

Suits galore! Will someone tell us, the licence payers, how many people are employed by the BBC. Plus how many are self-employed but taking money from the Beeb. Also break down the BBC jobs into how many are cleaners, secretaries, clerks etc and how many are upper echelon types. How many outside groups does the Beeb use, because the further away from `central control` one gets the more tempting it is to be cavalier with other peoples finance.

@fattyboombatty7736 Sky TV isn't owned or run by the Murdock family anymore, it's been wholly owned and run by Universal/Comcast for a couple of years so far. The Murdock family only own News International, which runs Fox News in the US and several newspapers around the world.

Old American here. I like watching automotive TV shows & we have a large number of them here in the US. We even have whole channels dedicated to a wide variety of automotive shows. I don't mean to offend anyone in the UK but if Top Gear was your best shows I can see why the BBC is in trouble. It was at best "cute" for the first couple of years but after that it wasn't worth watching, at least over here. It was the same, often silly stuff, every week just with different people. It couldn't compete against the wide variety of automotive shows available it in the US market. The US produced version & cast was an absolute awful knockoff of the original. Sorry, just my opinion.

I still think the easiest solution would be to let the BBC keep their Licence fee and make it by law that you can watch live broadcasts of other TV networks for free (even though we still pay through advertising) that way we the public will not be faced with a 'stealth tax' where everybody has no choice. The BBC would either have to scramble their signal to let just their paying customers watch or keep things as they are either way the public wins and would really shake the BBC up as to what programmes they produce, any luck they would stick to their woke agenda and go bust. Does anybody agree that the powers that be at the BBC are really thick and stupid when it comes to the licence fee. They say they won't make programmes for the over 40's and target the young audience hence all the shit they put out. Do they not realise that the young people on the whole do not pay for a licence and it is the older generation that do? No wonder they are losing money, thick as pig shit.
@user-pf3ye6yi9n
@user-pf3ye6yi9n 5 ай бұрын
When digital TV was first introduced it was proposed that every TV or digibox would have to have a card slot to be sold, making it compatible with scrambled signals. The BBC fought hard to remove this requirement because it would have made it easier to do what you suggest. Nowadays just about every TV has a card slot because it is cheaper to include it and they are built for world markets.

Just think of the “bad old days” when they owned studios and a show was just a few sets with the same crews working on multiple shows. Sure the production values didn’t look like Hollywood but we had so many shows. The BBC TV Centre was running constantly, making shows that filled the schedules. Making a new show was easy as they had the infrastructure. Need a new interview show? Just get a few chairs and 2 cameras and you’re done. No need for all the gloss. Viewers don’t care about gloss if the content is good.
