Apparently I got a visit a couple of weeks ago. They didn't even bother to ring the door bell, but pushed a timed note through the letter box (I was in at that time) indicating that if I didn't contact them within seven days they would take further action. That action appears so far to be yet another type of threatening letter to 'the Occupier' which arrived yesterday. At this rate I am going to have to buy a bigger shredder!

I used to get one of those 7 days to get a licence letters once a month for years , nobody ever came, the letters came through royal mail, they've stopped bothering to even do that now. The fact they keep making biased programs is possibly the main reason the viewer figures are plummeting! Plus the fact that even those who still think they are the state broadcaster and have to be believed over the commercial stations are waking up to their political and extreme bias on climate!

I have just received another 'no licence needed' reminder (told them twice already in 2019/2021) I wrote to my MP to complain that the BBC are the only organisation who ask you regularly if you use their services. I told him im no longer engaging with them and they can now start to send letters... he said he is taking it up but as he's one of those MP's who just seems to have his photo planting tree's, im not holding my breath!

Even the DVLA don't contact you if you inform them you're taking your car off the road. They don't come to your house and check that the car is not on the public highway.

Indeed, and why would anyone pay for a local "rag" containing only lazy, shoddy journalism and local adverts when all local plumbers etc. are listed on-line? The implication that a TV licence inspector has a right to enter someone's home was very misleading too.

The look on their faces when i answer the door and instantly start to sell them an old carpet i have in my shed. I just go on and on, even following them down to the gate. They usually tell me they dont need or want a carpet and to leave them alone.

Stop worrying ,they have kept sending me the same letter in different words every month saying I am getting another visit ,I am going to have to start paying, i will definately get a visit, they are now escalating my case to an office local to me , they have escalated my case to a different office, you will be getting a visit on such a date........... blah blah blah blah ... please throw them in the bin and unless you are expecting someone to call do not answer your door to any strangers, please bin them like I do.

In the 70's I worked for GPO telecommunications .... The TV detector vans were stored in our yard .. There was nothing in the back of the van and the stores department used the vans to run supplies about.

When I was a kid I looked in the back of one operating the man was sat in a metal framed chair and a desk with a pile of paper on the desk I assume was a list of addresses without a TV license. No tech. Now considering there was only BBC and itv VCRs and dvd weren't an household item I can only conclude they looked out for the glowing flickering light in the net curtains in the window 😊

something i said on blackbelt barristers video, the only thing i object to is having to fill out the no licence needed every 2 years or they start the harassment over again. if you don't fill it out they harass you for eternity. it shouldn't be needed or legal for them to do it.

IF they were able to enter your house and switch the TV on, it is not the householder who is watching live TV without a licence. It is the official who turned the TV on.

They are also stealing electricity which you have to pay for. Last time I heard stealing was called theft and was a criminal offence.. as is trespass when they refuse to leave when asked.

It's absolute rubbish. Just because the TV can be turned on to live TV doesn't mean you watch it. There is nothing that states that owning TV equipment connected to an aerial or dish constitutes requiring a license.

I don't see your point. I said that if a TV goon turned your TV on it is he that would be watching live TV without a license. I don't know when the law changed but in the 1970's I seem to recall that if you had a receiver capable of receiving a TV station you were guilty. The only way to get out of it was if there was no TV aerial connected or in sight. Alternatively, if it had been modified as to be incapable. @@robl5833

It's actually quite simple. The TV 'licence' is a subscription fee, as the only terms is that you pay it, so exactly the same as a subscription! I don't subscribe, so I don't pay it. All their junk mail, and it is just that, ends up in the bin. There is no enforcement and they have no special legal powers, NOTHING.

I'm a retired police officer and I cannot emphasise enough the importance of the public knowing their rights on the issue of entry. It is simply this = NO ONE has a right to enter your home without a warrant (there are powers where police acting in "immediate pursuit" or welfare, safety issues or the fire brigade in an emergency where life is threatened) But NO non emergency services civilian can enter without your permission UNLESS they have a warrant (it does not have to be "wet signed", that's a myth). Also, your windows are your property and are also protected by law(s). If someone is looking through your window, this is technically trespass and could even fall under the Voyerism laws. I know BB Barrister has mentioned windows but if a person walks onto your property and looks or films through your window, this is unlawful and you should call police reporting an intruder! Don't let these bastards and the BBC bully you. They are powerless, completely powerless.

I have imformed them about i do not need ac licence . I have filled im for an exhemption but they still send me loads of letters . Not once have they ever turned up when they say . i do not watch tv so i am not bothered by them . I wish they would stop the letters though .

Since stopping the license and no longer watching live tv, I’ve completely got out of the habit of watching the tv and have now removed it from the sitting room and looking for a good home for it, or it’s getting tipped. I pay Amazon prime but no longer use the service. The TV has become like a toasty maker, or other fad kitchen appliance, fallen from favour and discarded.

I live in Jaywick, just had a letter from them saying they are going to visit me because they are proceeding with the final stages of their investigation. No one called Legal occupier at this address to open the door.. 1000's of letters sent out every week, most of them seem to be sent here😂

I'm always astonished that the other terrestrial channels are not playing holy fuck. They get nothing from the licence fee, yet you must have one to watch them live. Oooooooooo! I got to 7:31 and that article is VERY MISLEADING! I know this from doing my SIA Training - TV Licensing are NOT ALLOWED TO TOUCH ANY EQUIPMENT! NONE! NIET! NADA!!! What they are Allowed to do... And what a Homeowner MUST DO if they allow a TV License Inspector in is ask the Owner to "Turn on the TV" and ensure it is not receiving a broadcast signal... They are NOT to touch the controls themselves! Where they CAN Touch Equipment is to Look at the back of the TV to set it is connected to an AV Socket, or an Internet enabled Router! And that's it! BUT ONCE AGAIN, If you have allowed them into your home, and you do have other devices, Such as a Computer, Tablet or Mobile Phone that has internet connectivity and if there is a Router in eth property - YOU ARE UNDER OBLIGATION TO SHOW THEM THAT THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN RECIEVE OR RECORD LIVE TV ON THSOE DEVICES!!! Now, NOTE CAREFULLY WHAT I HAVE SAID... THIS ONLY APPLIES IF YOU ALLOW THEM IN! There is a Legal Obligation to assist them if you allow them in... You HAVE GAVE THEM PERMISSION BY ALLOWING ENTRY! And refusing to show them anything they ask to see... Yeah, that will get you in the court! So, What do you do? Simple... Answer the door, Ask who it is.. In Canada we have no tv license fees,we have cable to purchase and depending on how much to pay you get more Chanel's,but if you don't want cable you get like 6 channel's live without paying and we still get the local news,plus one of the free Chanel's is BBC for 30 minutes

In Canada, you have a a public broadcaster (CBC) funded through the federal government…. I.E. The taxpayer….that would be you, Sean.. So you have no choice in the matter which makes it even worse. And you don’t get worse than CBC…even BBC is not as bad yet. CBC is a blatant propaganda arm of Trudeau’s liberal government. That would drive a stake through my heart instantly..

So glad you've been sent the YorkshireLive piece. I read it yesterday and immediately submitted a correcting comment which would attach to the article on line. Your expectation that anyone at YL could 'do some journalism' is a laugh! They only now seem to employ cut and paste juniors who only write anything themselves if it's about their visit to a cafe or restaurant or similar! How about asking any of your viewers who HAVE been fined how that came about? Did they just make the mistake of talking to or inviting in the Capita lot and admitting, or are there really methods to gather evidence without your knowledge? It would be very interesting for us to know exactly what evidence has been presented and believed in a court.

To add, I've just added another comment on the YL article, guiding readers towards your expose of the background to their story and it's inaccuracies. Right now I. For instance, a company that ran a station in London would have stations in Birmingham, Glasgow or wherever, and they'd all play pretty much the same records and have the same 'news' bulletins.

The licence fee is the least worst option! We all know how vindictive they are, what will you do if they decide to put it on your council tax bill instead? Or your broadband bill? Then what? At least for now you can opt out!

15yrs not paid a penny. I occasionally watch live TV too. I would never pay again and if I was ever taken to court I'd go not guilty and let prove I'm watching live TV without a TV licence.

You never tell them that you watch tv live or otherwise, thats the only way they can get evidence is if you speak to them, or write it down, tbe only words they get from me is goodbye as I shut the door, but I really do not watch any TV live or otherwise netfflix , amazon prime and Disney, I probably pay more for these 3 than I would if just had a TV licence, but I am not contributing to a company that hates the people that pays its wages and who produces crap programs

Emmanuel Macaron, election pledge, was to get rid of the French television licence, and he did just that, they got rid of it last October and it was only 114 pounds per year, perhaps someone should make the same pledge here, at the next election 🤔👍🥂

Been at this home for 2-5yrs, many letters but no visits. When my visit comes & clarify that they work for TVL, it's simply ''it's meant to be that way, so you're trespassed & get off this property''. No need to talk to these nobjob goons.

I have had a number of letters, none of them I open, All going into the bin. I am 85 years old. And at risk. This shows how desperate they are. A large red letter. Followed by another one telling me that they are going to visit me. This is how they frighten old people. My door will not be opened to Cold callers.

Thanks for the latest update. I still get the threatening letters every couple of months or so. My mate who lives on the other side of London cancelled his licence years before I did. He told me that he gets a break for a couple of years from TVL threats by phoning them up and insisting that he does not watch BBC or live broadcasts. He told me he is treated courteously. I know that it's just the operative at the other end of the line, also he is an OAP like me, so maybe that helps. But phoning them up seems to put them off for a while. PS What's happening with the Spainiacs channel? Did I miss something? The latest video is just a film with no dialogue. It's missing the main man 🤨

I believe the B.B.C actually wants the license fee to be abolished. No U.K. government will make the B.B.C. a subscription service so the alternative funding would either be a surcharge on EVERY Council Tax bill or a Broadband Tax with no opt out. Either way , simple to collect and no escaping it. Careful what you wish for , as they say.

I filled in the 'don't need a licence' thing online. Put my house up for sale, and 3 months later, I got a letter saying 'Have YOU forgotten to get a TV licence?'. Didn't sell my house. Stayed where I was. Still don't have a TV licence.

Next year is going to be interesting. Apparently the BBC's right to broadcast Premier league highlights expires and ITV are planning on rivaling them to show them. If the BBC lose the rights then do you think Lineker will stick with them or move to ITV for probably more money and how many people will still stick with paying the license if theres no footie on the BBC?

The more you read into the SJP court the more worrying it is, the details 0o this case is horrifying I hope Chile looks into it, I'm so concerned. This is a 71 year old disabled woman who was no match for the person at her new door and admitted "watching coronation street" . The other issue is this SJD system is a fast track criminal system, so she now has a criminal record. When did they create this clandestine system that is targeting the elderly and disabled? Secret and not in open magistrates court? The details of the 89 year old's conviction is horrifying enough, I wish we could get Black Belt Barrister to explain this SJC system. Do Barristers of Solicitors not have right of entry to these sessions?

They claim you need a TV licence to watch live on streaming services and KZfaq is an example, NO, you only need one if you are watching a television company live stream a television programme, it's misleading because watching your favourite independent KZfaqr live is perfectly legit, E.g. if you did a live show you wouldn't need a TV licence to watch it, but they fail to clarify this leaving many people believing you need one for any live stream.

i have not had a licence for 5 years,had letters,but no visits,everyone needs to just stop paying for it,just cancel the direct debit, dont pay, then they will be done.
