Thanks for sharing this great clip full of ads for local businesses and Shaw owned channels Viewer’s Choice and YTV. This TV listings channel ended in February 2013 when Shaw in Calgary ended its analog cable. I was also surprised to see GSN on the lineup at channel 95. I was watching GSN on Bell Expressvu satellite at the time. Some of the shows GSN used to have can now be seen on Buzzr and GameTV

No problem at all. But true thanks go to the unknown individual who left the VCR recording on the wrong channel that day and discarded the tape! The epitome of the classic trash/treasure scenario! Now if you'll excuse me, Sex Court is on at 8:30!

Been trying to find video for TV Listings from this time in Victoria BC but luck at all. Tried asking local Shaw here but claim they don't have anything.

Hi great video , seeing this brought back so many memories. I was wondering if you have any other tv listing videos for 2009-2010 because i was in a commercial for a Calgary pawnshop but I can’t find it anywhere online and your video was the closest thing to what I was looking for . In your video the commercial is for the same company but they had change their name by the time I worked there as well

Somebody tell me if I am crazy or not: but in the 1990’s (a bit before this video), didn’t the TV Listings channel used to not play commercials with sound, but instead were just scrolling while a soundtrack of like- new age/elevator music played?

You’re not crazy. 🤓

Got any TV listings from Vancouver in 2003? I miss seeing those ads.

Not that I know of. But then again, I have no idea what’s on any of these random old tapes until they hit the VCR.

@@Blendeture Most people don’t know that VCR’s are not completely obsolete! Going digital is not a bad thing but it doesn’t give us the nostalgia like this!

Haha this format was so effing lame. It was way better when it ran horizontally so you could see the next 3-4 time blocks.

When I was a kid, I tuned into 'To Be Announced' a couple of times, but it always seemed so boring... And the storyline seemed impossible to follow episode to episode. But it was on all the time so it must've been popular... It wasn't until my 20's that I realized the title was just a placeholder.

The car dealership ad at 15:24 shows that the dealership is open on a Sunday, Why can’t it be open on a Sunday?
@Blendeture5 жыл бұрын
555yrty : (copied from wikipedia) In Canada, each province and territory has its own legislation regarding employment standards and Sunday shopping. In 1982, the Supreme Court of Canada upheld the Lord's Day Act. However, at that time, only the Canadian Bill of Rights existed. That document only protected existing Canadian rights. As a result, the Court noted that Canada was an overwhelmingly Christian country that had accepted Sunday closing laws for years. The Court determined that the Lord's Day Act did not force people to practice Christianity or stop practising their own religion. However, later that year, the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms was introduced, ensuring freedom of conscience and religion, regardless of existing federal or provincial laws. On 24 April 1985 - the Supreme Court of Canada ruled that the Lord's Day Act violated Canadians' freedom of religion. The 1985 ruling examined the original purpose of the act. It found that the Christian value of keeping Sunday holy had been incorporated into a law that affected all Canadians, Christian or not. This law-the Lord's Day Act-prevented non-Christians from performing otherwise legal activities on Sundays. This was inconsistent with the Canadian charter. In 1984, the province of Alberta granted municipalities the right to allow, or prohibit, retail stores opening on Sundays. By the end of 1984, some stores in Edmonton were open on Sundays, but the controversy over Sunday openings continued for a number of years. In some communities in Alberta, the question was still being debated in 1990.
