When Jack White was a little boy he mistakenly thought The Salvation Army was called THE SEVEN NATION ARMY. Years later he used that to write this award winning song.

One of the greatest live performances on television I've ever seen -- and I go back. So perfectly stylized and carefully conceived. The red-and-black-only theme. The bodyguard/bouncer standing stock still with his hands folded in front of him until the very end. Meg, hand on hip, mouthing the lyrics to herself while Jack sings. And it just rocks. A work of art. A friggin' masterpiece.

As a 67 year old woman, I really like it, I think it's awesome. It sort of reminds me of AC/DC's song, "Big Balls". My daughter is a middle school band director and her kids were excited when they learned to play it this year. It is now going to be their main song for pep rallies.

@@hedekbassbro, today is the first time hearing them live and during both times I watched them megs drumming is not something to be talking about, heck she can’t even play a consistent tempo, and Jack was literally playing flat during the majority of the solo solo and even playing a flat note consistently during the chorus. Imagine yea, the easiest riff in existence played flat. A good studio band that does not perform well live, atleast during their earlier days ig

In the intro and verse he's using a modulation fx pedal to make the guitar sound like a bass. Which he then turns off for the chorus and solos where he also uses a steel/glass slide on his finger to get that distinct blues slide guitar sound, but he's got a major fuzz effect applied to the sound as well.
