I miss the TriStars. Loved the whine of those Rolls Royce engines spooling up for takeoff. A plane way ahead of it's time.

My first trip to Europe was aboard a Delta L1011. It was smooth, comfortable, and solid as a rock. I have crossed the Atlantic many times since but this is still my favorite plane. Sorry they are retired. I felt appreciated by the crew.

I remember seeing those TWA L1011s all the when I was in high school. My High school was right next to LAX, so after school, when we were walking or getting on the bus, TWAs after noon L1011 flight to STL would take off, and for some reason they sounded close to a 757 sound. Now L1011s was not my favorite aircraft back then, I have always been a 747 man but after they started leaving the skies, I began to miss them, I mean for gooodness sake, this is the only jetliner Lockheed ever built.

Loved TWA and their L 1011’s. Actually TWA was my favorite airline.

Dad's favorite project while at Lockheed (he did many others). Was very proud of that jet and the program. The CAT III technology was way ahead of its time.

I flew in several TWA L1011s …they were all great planes and great flights.

For its time, certainly the most technologically advanced aircraft perhaps ever built. In addition, a very safe plane, no one ever questioned the structural integrity or design of the L-1011. In the U.S. there were only two high profile crashes of the 1011, one an Eastern Airlines crash in the Everglades due to pilot error and the other was a crash involving Delta Flight 191 that crashed due to windshear conditions at DFW. Three legacy carriers flew the L-1011, Delta, Eastern, and TWA. A truly great airplane, ashame that the initial production delays kept it from ever being as successful as its counterpart, the DC-10.

I had the privilege of flying on an Eastern L-1011 from San Antonio to JFK & a Delta from Seoul, South Korea to Portland, OR. Beautiful airplanes. Preferred them to DC-10’s.

I wish TWA had merged with Eastern.Their complementary routings would have made for an awesome airline.

Even without looking at the tail, one major difference in the appearance between a DC-10 and an L1011 is how far from the fuselage the wing engines are mounted. Much closer on DC-10.

Flew to Europe twice on TWA L1011s

When I was 1 since it's June 1990

There was an earlier incident befr the cargo door opening in midflight in '74. This could hv been prevented. People were aware of the planes reputation in '79 and when American airlines went down ... well that just solidified the plane having a bad reputation. In fact, the DC 10s had been around since the '50s and were good planes. It was poor maintenance that was the culprit

Which model is it. The 211s were under power so climbed at only 200ft per minute at cruise altitude. The 500 is different.Also, the 211 is now against air regulations. Where can we Buy a complete 500?

All the new planes are so boring compared to the older generation. Everything now looks like some version of a 737. One engine on each wing
