Tweed amps are widely considered to be the holy grail of tone. Monster cleans, natural break and a simple but super effective circuit, these amps deliver a true vintage sound.
In this video we're going to be putting 3 of our favourite Tweed style amps up against each other in the ultimate tone comparison. Featuring the Fender ’57 Custom Deluxe, Two-Rock Burnside and a Tone King Falcon, it's a feast of monster tone!

Big fan of Jacks playing. Never seems to play same stuff or style, so very versatile guitarist. Surprised he isn’t in house band for top star. Sure he’ll get the call eventually.

It's like an idea grabs him and he just goes with it. Is Greg Koch a better gunslinger? Yes, but he's not as invested in the ideas as this guy is. Listening to him is like reading a collection of short stories, all with such varied moods and themes. Incredibly creative. I'd pay a lot for the album.

Jack, you are on your way to being the best demo guy there is.I had 3 Tonekings the 1st edition falcon a Imperial HW and the skyking..all great. I'm currently using longhorn amps

The Fender is the sound we've heard on so many records, so it makes sense that so many people would love it... Its like the sound of an SM57 on a cab, there's just something familiar about it... Having said that, the two rock sounds beautiful, infact they all have their charms (although the lows lose a fair amount of definition on the tone king with LP)

Great playing! They all sound nice, though the Tone King seems to have a richness, and nice chime as well as pleasant harmonic overtone structure. Their amps are on my short list👍

Love the sound of these amps! The classic is, well the “classic”. The Two Rock has the tone, but I suspect costs more than the custom shop? The Tone King Falcon is a lot more of an amp. I bought a 5e3 clone, which I love ❤️, had I had the money, the Falcon Grande would have been very high on the list! The other voicing, higher headroom, built in attenuator, and excellent reverb make it a lot more...

I think this video highlights exactly what I do and don’t like about amp comparisons. The variety of amp settings, guitar/pickup choices, and handwork display the various tonal qualities of the amps. And they all sound great. BUT what I really want is an exact strum-for-strum comparison between the amplifiers with identical guitars and licks. This way I can isolate differences in amp tones. I would love to see this video redone that way.

Those are all nice sounding amps, but that Tone King is well named. It sounds like you played it with more gain than the others but the chimey overtones yet individual notes on chords = pretty sweet. Don't forget to compare Carr amps some time. I have an older Mercury and it is pretty killer.

The Fender is obviously the bar set for the 3. But I liked the Tone King Falcon as a close 2nd and the Two-Rock was a close 3rd.

I had the ‘57 Custom Tweed Twin from Fender, wasn’t a fan of the old school Jensens that flub out. I now have the burnside and can do both very nice cleans and dial out bass and push the amp for the more traditional tweed tone; Big fan of having a more useable bass range in the Two-Rock.

Loved the Tone King. The Fender has that bit of fuzz blooming off the notes that I don't like, but I guess that's part of why people like the actual Fender.

Andrea Pasillas I did, still discovering new sounds after four months, each of the four inputs is slightly different, Mic 2 is best for Telecasters imo, Mic 1 for Strats, def Inst 1 for Les Pauls, had to sell my mint Gibson J-45 to get it, but I love this amp!

I want love the Custom Deluxe (and it's bigger brother the "57 Custom Pro w the 15" speaker) but I can't help but think they need reverb or at least a delay in every mix I've heard. I've heard one in person and it was great at a club- but the guy had a Fender reverb unit with it- they just seem to sound so dry and non-3D to me- but I WANT to love them because I love that tweed aesthetic and tone otherwise. Great playing here- as usual.

they all sound great, but the fender has that nice sweet squishy overdrive that the others did not seem to have...I think that is what gives the Fender it's thing...no one else does that squishy compressed drive

There are lesser known brands that have their own Tweeds such as Milkman, Vintage Sound, Franklyn, Carl's Custom, Lazy J, and Roadhouse. I wonder if Supro has any Tweeds.

Is the 57 tweeds tube configuration standard? I have an EC Tremolux, I might change the first 12AX7 for a 12 AY7 and see if there is a noticeable change in tone.

I’ve got the Falcon and it still shines at low volumes. Lots of nice harmonics and sweet compression at bedroom level. The Ironman attenuator is really an amazing piece of egineering.

This dudes is a fantastic player. Unfortunately, they changed the camera shot during the most excellent part of his playing from 8:19 to abut 8:30. I'd put his playing up against anyone's today, Joe Bonammassa, etc.
