I have just found this video and it is a very good video but I would recommend cleaning out the old sealant and putting new in as using the old sealant again does not guarantee a waterproof seal.

Soooo sexy... I ordered black head lights for my R53 S and did this to my R60 S a while back...can't wait till I find a R56 in good shape w/low mileage !

Hi you cant buy them separately. They came off a broken set of OEM black headlights.

What grill do you mean, are you saying you have the slat grill and want the black honey comb one?

Love the video, but I was always taught to take the Earth off the battery first because when you put the terminal back on and they arc/spark, there is less of a chance of blowing modules up through the earth. Apparently it creates less of a voltage spike through the earth. I know how fragile mini FRMs are!

The only reason to take the earth off is so that if the terminal touches the body of the car, theres no chance of it shorting out any electricity left in capacitors and such (which shouldnt hurt anything anyway). It doesnt really matter otherwise.

hello, great video! I live in Italy, I am writing to you because I have a big problem: I broke the outer shell of the headlight of my Mini Cooper S (r56, 2011) and all the auto repairers are telling me that I have to change the whole headlight (even if the lights work). seeing your video, however, it is possible to remove the outer shell and replace it (the piece can be found on the internet), the only problem I see is that there is a light that remains attached to the shell, so I ask you: is it possible to remove it to mount it on the new shell? thanks a lot, hope you can help me. happy New Year

Hi yes you could buy a none working light with a good outer shell and switch it over to your working one. As you say you can unscrew the light part from the outer shell and screw it to the good one.

It’s great!! This morning I found a repairer which is willing to give it a try and now that you tell me that it is possible to move the light attached to the shell I think he can do the job. I hope this method works, otherwise I'll have to buy a new headlight for €700!! Thanks so much for the advice and reassurance. I think he'll use the heat dryer so I don't think he'll have to remove all the screws and lights you took off to put it in the oven.

You can’t buy them separately, I got them out of a broken pair of black headlights. You can paint yours potentially with high temp paint

As far as I’m aware you can’t buy them separately, mine came out of crash damaged headlights

You have to spray it matt black is that correct?

You can spray it whatever could or finish you want. It’s more you have to get your prep right and use the right paint. If I had to paint mine, I would use a professional who knows the right paint for the heat

I was more worried about light reflection etc, im pretty sure the oem black headlights are matt black, not sure if im right though

Or do you mean the inside of the light if so it’s not available separately you can paint yours or get the trim from the inside of a broken set of lights
