On August 25, 2018, Tweetsie Railroad celebrated the 75th birthday of former White Pass & Yukon (US Army) MacArthur no. 190 during their annual Railroad Heritage Weekend. While engine 12 was sadly unable to operate during the weekend due to a crack in the firebox, this was more than made up for by 190's throwback appearance: a silver smokebox and "YUKON QUEEN" and totem poles on the tender. This look was inspired by the engine's paint scheme when it first arrived at the park in 1960, sans the diamond stack and black paint. Those guests who attended the morning photo shoot were treated to multiple spectacular runbys at both the trestle and the outpost, before 190 returned to regular Wild West Train duties for the remainder of the weekend. Due to 12's unfortunate absence 190 was unable to pull coach 5 as planned, so it sat on display in front of the shop. Tweetsie put on a great event as always despite the setbacks, and I can't wait for Railroad Heritage Weekend 2019!
