I think the fact the Next Semester exists says ALOT about where Tyler is at in his life rn. Tyler seems ready to talk about his mental health now with a good amount of distance from events that were traumatic. If the events suggested in Next Semester are true, I read these old videos as majorly significant to him, but flying under the rader to everyone else in his life. Now with Next Semester he seems ready to talk about a very dark period of his life. Tyler seems to resemble the driver in the car now. You can't change what you've done, but you can start fresh next semester. I have been part of this fanbase for nearly 10 years. I'm 24 now and this band is very different from when I was a sophmore in high school. I've grown with this band and simple things like this video have been recontextualized with distance. It gets easier to talk about traumatic events. You can get past "what you've done. " Most of all "cringe culture" is dead. Please don't feel ashamed by what you like. However you interact with this band is valid. I remember seeing this band on The Emotional Roadshow Tour, and feeling so grateful for all the people Twenty One Pilots has touched. That number since then has grown and that makes me so happy. I'm so happy to everyone who has and continues to discover this band. Yall are valuable. Stay Alive |-/ Love each other :)

I lost my best friend a month ago to suicide. We were both huge twenty one pilots fans. We played this song at his funeral and I couldn’t stop myself from crying knowing the meaning behind this song. It’s so beautiful and I wish he could have heard this song one more time and maybe just maybe he would still be here. Thank you twenty one pilots yall have done so much for him, unfortunately it wasn’t enough. Thanks for giving me hope through my grief.

Losing a best friend has to be the hardest shit ever. It feels like it is meaningles, but I am so sorry for your loss. I will never understand but please believe me, I feel with you. One of best friends jumped off a bridge and survived. Her messages and silence after that were the hardest times of my life. 1/1/22: every year this is the first song I listen to. This song is what created my purpose and saved me. I've stayed alive another year. When I found this band at 9 years old I never thought that they would have such a huge impact on me. We made it.

Twenty one pilots is not just a band for me. They mean so much to me. Right now i am 20 years old. When i was 16 i got medical conditions like Depression, social anxiety, panic attacks and much more.. I was listening to them every single day and their music has helped me to have hope in this life and that things can get better and i stay alive till today. Thank you Twenty One Pilots ❤️

I'm 19 now but I will never forget the impact this band had on me when I was in middle school and parts of high school. These guys were the first to make me feel like I was understood and that I mattered. It's been awhile since I've come back to this video as I sorta drifted away from their music, but I'm in a dark place again and their music never fails to pull me through.

I turned 16 yesterday I'm here because I never thought I would've lived so long , and I feel like in part is thanks to this band if I'm here. i haven't listened to twenty one pilots in a while. they were my refuge when things were dark, and i will always be grateful for that. I used to be in a very dark place mentally. But I've grown so much, I feel like I've found my inner light again. I've been about two years clean as I type this. If you're reading this, I love you, and I promise that it gets better. Hope you're doing well! remember that anyway it will be good one day. i used to come to this song at the worst times of my life (and i was 13-14 btw), but now i can see why it had to be that way. My English teacher made us play one of our favorite videos for the class and we had to name one character trait of a person in the video. The teacher and teacher's assistant were both looking very lost while watching this. They asked me why I chose this video and I said it was because this is my favorite band and this is one of my favorite music videos. When asked about my character, I said something like this: My character is Tyler, the singer, and he is very reassuring. The teacher asked me why and I said something like "he's telling people with mental illnesses such as depression and anxiety that they will get through it no matter how hard it seems." The teacher is one of the hardest teachers in the school and I've never really liked her, but I feel like she thought of me a little differently. And the scary part is, just by the way she looked at me, I think the teacher's helper began to understand why I wear hoodies all the time.

Life scares me. I feel like I’ll never get better. I feel like I’ll never leave the dark place I’m in. But this song... whenever I feel like no one cares I come here. Tyler is the only person able to make me feel like I’m not alone. At the end of the day, I may be alone, I feel like I’m alone in the whole world, but at least I have their music . The only reason I’m still here it’s because he gave me hope, this song gives me hope every time I think about doing something bad. Maybe one day I’ll feel better. I’ll maybe decide that I can try and just keep going instead of giving up. If I’m going to be an adult someday, I just know that this song will forever be in my heart.

I realized wanting to die, is just a yourning to heal. Tyler has been beside me from this song to now. and it is incredible the journey of healing. the juxtaposition of life and death. Letting the parts of us we reject die, instead of us. This song will continue to be a recycling life giving machine as it ages just like us all.

Sometimes I find myself feeling sad or alone. When that happens I often listen to this and it makes me cry but also let’s me know that I’m not alone even when it feels like that. Tyler literally saved me from many things and I owe him everything. Thank you Tyler for letting me know I’m not alone.

So it looks like my previous comment disappeared so I'm reposting cause it had 1250+ likes. I don't know what to say to these comments. I've never been depressed or suicidal. I am a happy person. I've been down before, but tøp always cheer me up. Hearing about these people who had their lives saved by tøp makes me so happy that Tyler and Josh can do that for people. If I ever had the chance to meet them, I don't know what I would say. If I said just thank you, i would sound as if I was a suicidal person. I don't want to sound like something I'm not. I could say thank you for all those in the comments here who have had bad experiences, or are struggling through life. I could say thank you for cheering me up when I'm sad, and when I'm down. I'm the same way. I'm happy and optimistic. Although I do have minor social anxiety, it's seems like nothing compared to what other people endure. When that little anxiety does get to me though, their music helps me, and when I calm down, I silently thank them and bless the people who use their music for the same reason.

At 9 years old I made my first attempt when I was in the hospital. I was using the mp3 player and it had this song pre downloaded probably from a kid before me but this song really changed my life. I’ve been hospitalized 37 times for suicide most long term stays, 3 times so far for addiction. When I went to the concert and heard everyone singing this I felt so seen and safe

September 2020, one of the worst points of my life. I was hopeless that things will get better, I thought this is it, this is the end. But little did I know that it was just the beginning, the beginning of my new life. I laid down the noose from my ceiling fan, but then I decided not to do it, I don't remember things clearly since trauma apparently makes you forget but from what I remember, this is the song that saved my life. Things only got better from there, I only grew and grew and grew. I knew that I could never hit Rock bottom again after what I've been through. August-September 2023, the peak of my life, I became somebody that my younger self could only dream of. Whatever he lacked, whatever he feared was fulfilled. But after that... the night struck again. As I write this, it is January 2024, A little more than 3 years since my Rock bottom, but I can say even though this isn't Rock bottom, it feels way worse. There is no desire to take my own life, but there is no desire to continue to stay alive too. It's like being a body without a soul. I don't know what the future holds, but all I know is that I have to keep fighting. Keep fighting till the very end cause these struggles is what makes life worth living. Tyler also mentions in his song "Car radio" that "There's faith and sleep, we need to pick one please because faith is to be awake and to be awake is to think", we need to consciously think about what we are doing and is it even worth it? Especially at your lowest moments this need to think is very crucial. We need to think and battle with these negative thoughts no matter what. They will drag you down the depths of despair and misery but no matter what you don't let them. Always believe in life, always believe in yourself. There is always an escape. Take care whoever is reading this, take care of your mental and physical health. Stay alive folks, we got this |-/

This song makes me think about my friend, Shane Trullinger. Who took his life back in 2010...he ran in front of a car and ended it. He was such a friendly and gentle soul and so incredibly talented at playing acoustic guitar. When I left Philly and moved to Cali, we would spend hours talking on AIM chat or on the phone. He never felt like he fit in, but I accepted him and loved him as a friend. I wish there was more I could have done to have helped him. There were times I didn’t answer the phone when he called, and I missed his last call a week before he took his life. I wish I could have answered the phone and just listened to what he had to say. That’s all he wanted. Was to be heard. It hurts. Please check on your friends time to time. Especially the quiet ones. RIP SHANE. I miss you 😔

One of my best friends tried to call me twice the night of June 2nd 2020; I woke up briefly and glanced at my phone, thought I would just call him back later. He killed himself an hour before my alarm went off the next morning. I understand that overwhelming regret. I have to remind myself constantly that there was no way I could have known in that moment and that it wasn’t my fault. I’m so sorry for your friend, and for your loss. I feel you; I really do. after reading all these comments and crying... i want to share my own story. this song was like a gift given to me at 15 so it could fill my heart at 20. i got into TOP when i was around 15, didnt understand any of the lyrics but liking the music. after a while i knew every word by heart, and started looking into the deeper meaning. at 20 i had my first anxity attack, i had no idea what was going on and was stuck in a place where they made me feel like nothing at all. anxity was terrifing, not knowing what the fuck was wrong with me felt like death. but i had this song. i already knew it by heart. it was stored in my brain fot that excact moment. it allowed me to sing along the lyrics, take a deep breath between the lines, actually believing it would get better. and it did. it got so much better. now this song is like a band aid over my mental scars.

I know it’s stupid but here’s my story: I recently put my 8y/o dog down. Ibe had her for a long time and she was with me when I first started listening to TØP. On her urn i put “you will die, and now your life is free. Take pride in what is sure to die.” And I just want to thank Tyler and Josh, for keeping me alive. Without them, I could’ve never been able to have this song mean so much to me. There are ups and downs in life, but they shape you to be a better you. I’m commenting to say that it does get better. I was on the brink of suicide about 6-7 years ago after grappling with depression for a few years prior. twenty one pilots was my comfort. I listened to their songs on the daily and it felt like I had a friend to help me through. Things are good now. I’m on medication to help me and have a good support system. The sun will rise and we will try again, my friends ❤

Well, i know that nobody gonna care about this, but i'll write it anyway: I started listening to this guys, like everyone (almost everyone) by Stressed Out, by that time, i didn't pay attention to the lyrics, then i had some bad times (depression), i tried to end it a couple of times, i didn't know what to do, then i meet a very special person (she's my girlfriend actually), I tried hidding my emotions, because she also has depression, so i didn't want to be an emotional problem, cause she had to listen me if i told her of my feelings, that's why i hided my emotions, some time later, she gave me a letter, i readed it, and it was a suicidal note, that day, i cried a lot, and i send her this song later in the week (2 days later), every time i listen to this song i start to cry, it reminds me of my bad times, but also reminds me of the letter, but i don't feel sad when i listen to this, i feel happy, because, it saved her, it saved me, and it saved many many other people. A little while ago, I almost took my life. I was really ready to do it, but I realized I hadn't listened to any music in the past couple hours. I need music like I need air, so I decided I was going to put my headphones on one last time and listen to something. I turned on my music and put it on shuffle. This was the first song to come on. I immedietly started sobbing before he even started singing. I turned it up as loud as I could and listened to his vioce blasting in my ears to stay alive. And I did. And you know what? These last couple days haven't been that bad because I now know I can fight against my head. I can win. I'll fear the nights again, but I know that I am stronger than I think I am, and I can turn my guns to fists and fight my demons. I just need a little help. Suicide is not the answer. Living is. This goes to show that there are many people who care about you without you realizing it. If you are struggling with these kinds of things, please look for help in people in your life. I think we all knew tyler mental health was bad and hearing "new semester" and going backk to truce it hits even harder than it already did because it just proves it even more and the whole "stay alive, i promise you it worth it" and ...idk ..it makes me feel things i cant tell if it relief or inspiration or tragedy..or all but my mind is opening more now none the less

i’ve commented on this video a couple different times already, but i wanted to comment again and say that tomorrow is my birthday and for the past 6 years i listen to this song every night before i go to bed, but it always hits different the night before my birthday. tyler and josh were, still are, and always will be my reason. I remember listening to this song late on school nights when I was 13-14, sobbing my eyes out and being incredibly suicidal with no hope for the future. Now it's the very start of 2023 and I'm almost 18, and if I knew I'd still be here revisiting this song after so long (because it gives me too many emotions to listen to) on Vessel's 10th anniversary, there's no way I'd believe it. I'm starting Uni this year and I've managed 130 days clean today. I'm doing so much better than I was back then. I am on pretty strong antidepressants and although I still get the same feelings I used to from time to time, I'm still here. It's been so rough but I'm here. And I'd never be able to do it without this beautiful song. It feels like this is MY song, and I have never gotten sick of it. There's so many of my feelings and experiences attached to it. I owe so much to Twenty One Pilots for pushing me through.

I came back for nostalgia and ended up bawling before the song even started. reading this and seeing myself in a similar position I can't help but feel proud of the both of us🥲 (although I don't count of how long I've been clean bc it has the opposite effect for me somehow). I keep joking that I'm re-entering my twenty one pilots phase but this band is such an integral piece of who I am, I don't think I ever left. I'm glad that someone feels the same way even after all these years.
