CORRECTION: I completely spaced and got Charlie Kane's motivation wrong for participating in the tournament. Yellow Jacket is driven by Charlie's son. Charlie was killed by a passenger with a gun and his son controls his body with a remote control. His son enters the contest so Calypso can make his life better.

Genuinely the reason the video came out this week instead of last was because I caught Covid for the first time too and couldn’t speak for long enough to record. That opening line was kind of a self congratulatory reference from that experience as well. I hope you’re on the road to recovery and that you’ll be back to full health soon.

Quick tidbit about the numbers 15 and 14 at 2:36, they were part of a set of codes that made the message "Twisted Metal is coming to psthree" when it was deciphered.

I feel like this game is the perfect example of wanting something so bad and regretted it at the end because well I love the way calypso gives the main characters that smile when doing the deal then screwing them over at the end it always gives you that feeling of I finally got what I wanted but at what cost.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!! I rember sinking hours into black on my brothers PlayStation when I used to visit. My console doesn't work right now so I just use emulation to play classics like this.

Thank you for this well done overview of one of my favorite games to this day, very enjoyable my friend! I love the series so much I bought the Sony Playstation at launch over the Panasonic 3DO just to play "Twisted Metal". I bought my launch PS2 just to play "Twisted Metal Black" & my first PS3 Slim just for the then new reboot so the series is very important to me as a older gamer!

I've been intrigued by the franchise, but never picked it up when I had a PS1/PS2 (other than maybe a demo disk for PS1), before moving to Xbox (so never had the chance to play the PS3 game, though I recall seeing it when it came out and was disappointed to be missing out).

I remember loving the game as a teen, but as I unlocked everything I got a bit tired of it, I get the reason why the world in Black is so dark but I got bored with everyone who wanted to be a killer getting their dream and everyone who wanted something good being screwed over, a bit too one note for me, but the gameplay was a lot of fun for the time (granted I cheated and played with invincibility on...)

Yeah I can definitely understand that criticism. I had that same feeling as I played and read about the stories that were here. Calypso always skewed to the side of making people who had good intentions pay for it, but there was so much “revenge” story that I didn’t find super interesting either. What I did like was the levels. I think there are some great ones there.

@@Under10Hours yea the levels are fantastic, if they tightened up the gameplay a bit more it could be the perfect Twisted Metal. Though I did find the idea why the world was that way fascinating, that you had to translate stuff from one of the characters to find out what was "really" going on. (being vague to hopefully send someone else down the rabbit hole of discovery and don't wanna give spoilers for something neat)

I remember being so disappointed as a kid when Twisted Metal 3 came out. I was expecting a more awesome version of TM2 and got provided a disc full of meh. TM4 was even worse. Great videos!

Great video man, The UK and European version is so censored. The destructible environment are already destroyed and no cutscenes for the characters except for boss battle intros and the montage at the end credits

3:36 that is completely wrong. You said Charlie's son is wondering where his dad is. The kid knew his father was dead and literally brought him back to life and controls him with a remote control. He wasn't wondering where he was. I don't know where you got that information from

I don't agree at all that Black is slippery compared to the PS1 titles. While it is arguably an extremely difficult game with a super high skill ceiling, I think it plays way better than 1 or 2. Those games are insanely sloppy by today's standards (though I do love them all). Black also has so much more depth and thought put into the weapons, how to do the most damage, etc. Not to mention the greater variety of combos and secret attacks.

Twisted Metal Black and Head-On were great additions on PS2 (latter from PSP with TMLost/Harbor City and what WOULD have been in a sequel) TM2012 was the WORST - graphics and storylines were awesome but it wasn't a TRUE Twisted Metal game as per the rest of the series, certain drivers drove their respective vehicles - Axel on Axel, (mainly) Bruce Cochrane for Thumper, (mainly) Marcus Kane (Needles' Alter Ego) for Roadkill (which would've been an awesome homage if playing as Marcus/Needles in Roadkill BEFORE going insane and THEN the transference to Sweet Tooth), and some sort of spin on the Roberts siblings for Outlaw

TM Black was too dark, literally and figuratively. Hard to see on older screens cuz it was so dark on-screen, and the maps all seemed the same--dark and drab. It just wasn't fun.
