Leading roles, of which, he is merely a super-hacker CIA agent, alien super god, hyper-intelligent author, alien super god, and the wonder twins. Modest roles for a humble man.

The thing that kills me about Breen movies is how vague all the writing is. Like the man has no imagination so he just says a character was a "corporate businessman". Can't even muster the effort to just say something like "He was a financial advisor for ZooptyWoo Pharmaceutical." Somehow he has no imagination, while also having enough imagination to accidentally write the plot of Trigun.
@Exospray
@Exospray 3 жыл бұрын
it often feels like multiple scripts mashed together as well. Is the focus on the twin brother, missions from Aliens or the evil corrupt government conspiracy that Breen always have?

It feels so much like stories I'd make up as a kid, where every job title is vague, scifi and fantasy and espionage are mashed into one, dialogue is on the nose or nonsensical, and a magic rock I found in my yard is a major plot point.

While Tommy definitely went self aware and it ruined everything he touched afterwards, James didn't. The problem with James is his actors were in on the joke so that's what made Birdemic II terrible when compared to the original. Instead of trying to rein them in from overacting or repeating gags from his first movie he just let them do it because he's a terrible director with no self-awareness. The man is literally still trying to create a romantic thriller.

OMG Neil Breen is a cinematic genius! I just ran thought the special FX scenes in slow-mo and they're stuffed with little hints and clues, to help us understand the truth of the piece! For instance, at 3:50 he briefly shows two Neil's at once, after he's jumped to the window. Surely this is a clue to the fact that there IS no twin, he's just a mental construct of his fears and failings as a human being. By separating this aspect of himself into a secondary persona, he gains the ability to become "superhuman" - better than he was originally, stronger, smarter. He uses this perfect form to perform all the superhuman feats that we see. For a brief moment we see his personas collapse into one, which is the VERY SECOND he stops flying and decides to land. Whether it's done consciously or subconsciously, Neil is able to briefly collapse this dual-waveform of personalities in order to "deactivate" his Christ-like abilities and succumb to gravity. I also see that Neil's character freezes in place for a moment before flying, and remains completely still whilst using this ability. This must be done in order to properly synchronise both aspects of himself - once he's reached that perfect state, he most cease all movement and bodily functions like blinking, in order to maintain that perfectly synchronised, ideally harmonic form. Whilst he cannot move his body whilst in this harmonious state, he is nevertheless able to manipulate the space around him; clearly evident when he jumps, flies or makes white powder appear and disappear in a matter of moments. (BTW The white powder only involved manipulating a small area of space-time, so he only needed to harmonise with his other body for a matter of milliseconds - far too quickly for a normal human to comprehend). This may also explain why his oxygen feed was placed over bandages - one part of him had his face bandaged, whilst the other only had the O2 tube. In order to recover from his injuries, he had to merge personalities, causing the quantum waveform to collapse into a state where he was wearing both the O2 tube AND the bandages...

I would personally want to have this film in a Breen boxed set with commentary from the man himself on his thoughts during his filmmaking odyssey.

There is such a thing as Neil Breen Retrospective where he kind of explains how he makes films with clips from these films. Costs a pretty penny though.

I know it isn't even close to being the weirdest or most random thing to be shown in this, but did anyone else notice the "Ultraviolet" poster in the background at 18:30, on the left? Also, great video once again Brad. Neil Brien is always a treat. Keep up the good work. Also, can't wait for the next "Hellraiser" reviews. 👍.
