Hello my name is Hellena Taylor, and I am the voice of Bayonetta, and I would like to explain to you why I didn't voice Bayonetta 3. Bayonetta franchise made an approximated 450 million dollars, that's not including merchandise. As an actor I trained for a total of seven and a half years, three years at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art LAMDA, with voice coach Barbara Barkery, and four and a half years with the legendary Larry Moss in Los Angeles. And what, did they think this was worth? What did they offer to pay me? The final offer, to do the whole game as a buyout flat rate was 4,000 U.S. dollars. This is an insult to me. The amount of time, that I took, to work, on my talent, and everything that I have given to this game and to the fans. I’m asking the fans to boycott this game, and instead, spend the money that you would have spent on this game, donating it to charity. I didn't want the world, didn't ask for too much. I was just asking for a decent, dignified, living wage. What they did, was legal, but it was immoral. Now those of you who follow me on Twitter know that I am more of a lover than a fighter and sometimes think I'm not very much like Bayonetta at all but I guess I am a little bit more like Bayonetta than I thought. I understand that boycotting this game is a personal choice and there are those that won't and that's fine. But if you're someone who cares about people, who cares about the world around you, who cares about who gets hurt, with these financial decisions, then I urge you to boycott this game. I decided to do it to stand up in solidarity with people all over the world, who do not get paid properly for their talents. So I got a friend who has been in business in Japan to write in Japanese to him, I know he read it because I got a reply! I got a reply, saying that he values greatly my contribution to the game and that the fans really want me to voice it over and he, the memory of first meeting me as Bayonetta is a memory I hold dear. So I thought great thank God. That was when they offered me 4,000 U.S. dollars. You know, Platinum had the cheek to say that I was busy, that they couldn't make it work with Miss Taylor's schedule, well I had nothing but time. They now have, a new girl, voicing her over, and I love that just I wish her all the joy in the world I wish her all the jobs but she has no right to say she is the voice of Bayonetta I created that voice she has no right to sign merchandise as Bayonetta. Anymore than I have the right to sign as either green even though I was her parrot on the video game The Golden Compass. That portrayal is hers and hers alone. They'll probably try and do a spin-off with Jan, don't buy that either. That's her money they played with. After seeing this it's probably not just Bayonetta 3 she didn't have but everything else that Bayonetta comes with or has. Considering who they did cast it's a gut punch. Jennifer Hale isn't a flat rate of $4000. Neither is Yuri Lowenthal or Grey DeLeslie. It's not going to stop the game from selling but it will definitely make the voice stand out and take away some of the joy. That wasn't her shading Jennifer Hale but the fact that she is trying to match her voice and all the phrases during combat does say that Helena is the voice of Bayonetta. It's the "imitated never duplicated" front and center. Definitely does stain Bayonetta 3. The game can have all the good reviews and gameplay but people are going to ask about this. Not just Platinum and Nintendo but Hideki and the other Voice Actors.

Here is the thing it is well known that the VA industry is paid badly in some gigs and is an issue. However, Taylor shouldn't slag Hale she is innocent in this just hired talent. Nintendo took the IP on as they saw potential and does moderate on their platforms. What I think platinumGames should have done is cast a Britsh girl as Bayonetta always had an English accent that's my only gripe.

There is one fact that I want everyone in the world to know. All of the Japanese voice actors who are more famous than her work for much lower wages. (But not terribly low wages either). But Japanese voice actors are still proud of their work and don't get into ugly arguments like this. Because voice actors are just a part of the character. In the case of games, there are creators, motion actors, and many other people involved, and the same goes for anime. A character is created when many people are involved, and a work is created when a much larger number of people are involved. Voice actors are very important in terms of bringing characters to life, but they are not like actors who create everything from scratch. Japanese voice actors work with the understanding that character design and motion are essential to their work. If Hellena has created the entire character from the ground up, including planning, design, programming, and motion acting, then I can understand Hellena's demands. But no matter how qualified Hellena is, the character Bayonetta is not yours alone. If everything you are saying is true, I sympathize with you and maybe the voice acting industry needs to improve, but is it just my imagination that the leaked contract information makes you look arrogant?

She has no right to come after my FAMILY. Jennifer is my cousin (my mothers side), I love that she loves her job in the voice acting industry. Jennifer understands that she could never be the Bayonetta people grew up with. Jennifer took the role because they needed a voice so of course she took it. It’s a role. Many voice actors decline roles and move on. It’s just how the industry works, it’s common sense. You can even ask for a higher pay if you deem yourself worthy which at the time I think she did. But, it still gives no right to trash Jen. I may be biased because she’s family, but it hurts to hear people talk very rudely and say they are not worthy about someone I love. She has the right to sign merchandise. Many actors and actresses sign for characters that have many different voices. That’s no excuse to be rude towards her. I had respect for her as a voice actress, but not so much now. I don’t hate Helena, I just don’t like what’s she’s doing. Just be mindful and respectful.
