A few minutes of searching , the two big tubes C16J and 5665 are actually the same type just differant designation "controlled rectifier" and are still around as New Old Stock the 5632 is also a rectifier tube and is still around as NOS I have a home assembled amp that uses 211 tubes they are also rather big😁 As they are industrial tubes it's unlikely that anyone, anywhere makes them unless they are also good for making music.

That's awesome! With a couple of SCR's that locker could hold tooling or something. 🤔 But, we've all got to love the fact that something almost as old as I am is still doing the job it was made for (thanks to Stefano!)

The monarch is a dc/univeral motor driven lathe - this means brushes and a commutator. A testimony of the era the US wanted to be the first to put a man on the moon. The C16J valves are as Stefano mentioned, the pre silicon era equivalents of a thyristor. The specs of these valves are - even compared to nowadays silicon - impressive.

That was a very enjoyable shop tour. Thank you, Stefano. I can't even begin to imagine how I'd get something like the Supermax moved. I'm sure there's videos of how something like that's done, but it's still got to be a major project. Sadly for me, all the great deals on those older machines are all up north. Georgia was never a hot bed of industry like Ohio, Michigan, etc. Trying to find used lathes and mills down here is a lot more difficult. I also missed a killer deal on a loaded Emco Maximat Super 11. I was going to buy it, then a friend had an emergency, and by the time I got back it had already sold.

Hi Jim my former employer here in Canada became the Distributer for Bridgeport in the mid 90's I and several of my fellow employes traveled to the factory in Connecticut for training. Most of the factory workers were at or beyond retirement age, honestly every one there felt lost. At least Hardinge rescued the series one machines.

Most of the missing parts mentioned look like things where a pattern could be 3D printed and sent to a foundry. It doesn't look like he would have any trouble with the finish machining.

All the VFDs that I have in the shop are Lapond, i’ve been using them for about 10 years now and I’m very happy with them. Mostly 2.2Kw models and a 5Kw for the Supermax

@@stefanobertelli2650 I have a similar mill, and have been looking for a way to power it with single phase 240v. At that size, everything I've read says to derate a larger VFD by up to 50%...which would require something in the 10kw range. Most VFDs that size won't run on single phase. How's the spindle torque on the VFD you have?

@@l3viathan000 I have been using my largest face mills without ever having any issues with my setup, Lapond is cheap and I’m very happy with it. I’m using it with sensorless vector control and this vfd performs very similarly to a Danfoss with plenty of features and parameters that you can play with

I'm still watching the video, so this might be addressed at some point later on, but is that a Basque (or possibly Catalan) accent Stefano is sporting, or am I mistaken? It's hard to pinpoint since there's some Scandinavian notes mixed in (Danish or Finnish, not sure). EDIT: It might not be obvious, but accents are one of my autistic special interests. Lol
