First is that sadly active assailants have used fire alarms to trick people to leaving the building, only for them to get shot. Announcing it makes it clear that there is no active shooter threat and that normal evacuations procedures can be followed. Second, surprise drills run the risk of a cry wolf scenario, where people may stop taking the alarm seriously knowing that it’s probably not a real fire. Even if you’re not told about when the drills will be, you are more likely to think the alarm is not real simply because you go through so many of these drills throughout your life. That would inevitably make the drills less effective. By announcing them, people can tell the difference between a drill and the real thing. That way should the alarm sound without prior warning, occupants will know for certain that this is not a drill and could indeed be a real fire. Additionally, people with disabilities and sensory overload benefit more from pre-announced drills too. If a real fire took place, someone would have a plan to get those people out of the building. That’s just my opinion tho lol

@@SportyTrainGuy i assume theyre being controlled via a simplex 4009 idnet nac extender which is a nac power booster connected to the main panel which is most likely a 4100u or 4100es. The boosters tend to do that occasionally for sync purposes unlike the main control panel's sync which will simply flash the strobes for a few seconds prior to sounding to get the alarms in sync. Smartsync is weird nonetheless.

In some states. But that’s like 14 drills a year. I think four or five drills is enough. In Maryland, the requirement is five for buildings with sprinklers and eight drills if there is none. But districts reserve the right to go beyond the minimum. I know some who still do monthly drills, which is like 10 per year.

Some teachers say it (mostly my second period teacher). He says it the week the drill is on. And the announcements did say the fire drill moved from 6th to 7th period on this specific drill

@@SportyTrainGuy I don't like fire drills ONLY because they're LOUD, unless it's a voice evac system. I don't mind the flashing strobes or evacuating the building, but I only mind the very loud siren.

We weren't wearing masks in the beginning, then went mandatory end of first quarter/beginning of 2nd, then lifted the mandate to this day

Whenever schools get renovated or get additions, they get newer alarms (voice evac). So, it most likely seems that parts of the school have been renovated and others haven't. You can always tell when it's a renovation instead of an addition because the speaker strobes have exposed conduit (wiring and backboxes that are outside of the wall). But, that's only the case most of the time, not all. So in summary, some parts of his school have voice evac because those areas have been renovated.
