Another winner! Showing yet again the amount of railway action that can be had in a small space in a small scale that runs flawlessly!

I like that you don't really have any ideas about where the landscaping is headed. I always get bogged down and stall out with my layout plans because I don't have a clear picture of the completed project. I need to just get going and let the creative process pull me along as the layout progresses. Thanks for the video.

I like the idea, could make for a busy city. A tramway upstairs that also serves as a goods line and a regular railway downstairs make for plenty of action.

Mike, there are some mighty fine 1/144 scale contemporary tanks and military vehicles which will make a fine Army depot. I'm thinking something like MOD Bicester.

This is an excellent two-level layout. I really like the modified "dog bone" for the second level. I think you should stick to the roofing felt for the track bed. It looks good and it's not so messy to install and use. Cheers mate.
@BudgetModelRailwaysАй бұрын
I think I probably will stick to the roofing felt, but bring the scenery and grass etc as near as I can to it.

Well done Mike, the layout concept looks stunning! Your imagination never ceases to amaze me and I love the way you have mirrored Cyril Fletcher's layout above and below❤. I look forward to seeing how it all pans out as a new exhibition layout and I just know I'm going to be impressed😂

Quite amazed at what you have packed in in such a small space but still spare room on it. Good old Cyril Freezer and his plans and wealth of layout, build and operational knowledge. Have you thought about doing your own on small/ shunting layouts?
@OlivierGabinАй бұрын
As usual with you, simple, efficient and clever. For the scenery, I will personally cut the pear in two, and make a pre-1989 eastern country city limit layout. In those countries, you could have seen (and still can see) cities abruptly ending with a cutoff limit to the rural countryside, I have seen that in Hungary in July 1989. Also, in Poland, you have tiny stations in the middle of nowhere linking small villages to the rest of the country, seen there in 2011. I would put a plattenbau (block buildings in prefab concrete) district, linked with the city centre, in your upper layout, and go full rural for the bottom, with a station in the middle of the fields, with a road that can link the station to a small village somewhere. Maybe not your thing, but I think we can use this plan for anything vostok, as I say.

Thanks. I like the idea of urban top and rural bottom, I was thinking the other way round, but yours works better

I almost thought this was a dual-gauge layout, with OO on the bottom and OO9 on top.

Coming along nicely. I assume there is access to the hidden trackage from the back. Here is a suggestion for the scenery. Why not some Japanese buildings made from paper kits. There even some free ones online. Just think with all the Japanese rolling stock it might look interesting. Cheers!

Funny this was on my mind after seeing US video of HO guage on 3 levels.....great presentation as always...I am thinking larger oval with a figure eight lower in the central area....I think town up on top and industrial below to right?

as someone who wants to get back into the Train Hobby as I enjoyed it as a kid and now want to share the same with my kids.... Do you happen to have the blueprint/layout for this model? I don't have a ton of space (or time), and this layout looks to be the perfect amount of "complexity and fun" while still maintaining a small footprint.
@BudgetModelRailwaysАй бұрын
I don't have a plan sorry, but it should be possible to work it out from the video. The bottom is just a 1st radius oval with some sidings, you can adapt that to fit the space you have. Are you using N or OO please
@SeanMaddenАй бұрын
@@BudgetModelRailways thanks! N scale is going to be what I plan to use.
@BudgetModelRailwaysАй бұрын
N will give you a lot more options
@evileyeballАй бұрын
N guage would be perfect for the amount of space I would have to build a layout however none of the Locos and rolling stock I would want to have come in N guage Sadly. (For now I live vicariously through model railroad youtube because I have neither the time/space/or funds to buiild the kind of layout I would want.)

I tend to follow the any model railway is better than no model railway route. Build and run something and have some fun, until you can build your dream layout

Hello can you help here. I bought a starter Horbny set with the Flying Scotsman and three coaches. It’s DC and 00 gauge 1.76 scale. I laid out an 8’ x 4’ 1/4” ply on a frame, nice and flat. I laid out the track extended with second hand track I cleaned etc. I had a double bend one end and triple bend the other. One straight was triple and the other a double. I worked out how to wire it up to have continuous power everywhere except for two sidings, this was controlled by the points direction and was intended. Then I got stuck. I started to scratch build buildings, made a tunnel and a mountain , but everything was on the flat. Today I took it all up because I kept getting derailments and power cuts, determined to rebuild learning from first mistakes. Then the reality hit me. Where do I start ? Do I set scenery with track in mind or do I set track first. I really want elevated track to give hills etc some reality.but I don’t know how to start off.
@BudgetModelRailwaysАй бұрын
Best advice keep it simple, two loops, not connected and some sidings. The Scotsman is a large loco and probably won't run on 1st radius curves, and/or back to back points. A smaller simpler loco or a diesel will be more reliable. Raised track is possible but adds weight and build time, it's possible to make the track run through the landscape even the level. We have videos on most of this if that helps.
@grahamsibbert2412Ай бұрын
Hello and thanks for the reply. Your comment on my engine being too big for my track is probably why I had a lot of derailing on the points. When it was running on the outer track round the whole thing it was fine, then changing to the inner one, off it went. Hmm, yes I get your point about keeping it simple, I thought I was. I will do as suggested and keep it to 2 loops with a couple of sidings and instead of having trains run above the buildings, I’ll try to build it up like you have over the trains. Another problem you touched on was the longer carriages need more room. I noticed that the 3 carriages I got with the Flying Scotsman do have a lot of overhang on the bends, this prevented me from putting grass, rocks, objects etc between the tracks even at the wider gaps. Gee I’m stuffed, I can’t afford to by new trains though. So will need to adapt. Will a Deltic sort of diesel tran work or must it be the tiny Thomas The Tank engine type.
@BudgetModelRailwaysАй бұрын
Sadly the Flying Scotsman must be the cause of more problems than anything else. People but them because they like them, but it's a large loco with a pony truck and long coaches. A smaller steam loco, shorter coaches or a nice bo bo diesel ( the older Hornby class 25 is great, or any lima bo bo) works much better. Sadly 2nd hand prices have got silly and there is no new budget range that's any good.
