The LIVE and STUDIO from Two Notes have made it into many many live rigs and studios around the world. The CAB is a great pedal board speaker simulation solution and makes many people happy, but can't be used behind an amp... not there is a new product that could bridge the gap, give you access to your CAB or software Its and it doesn't even break the bank... and the built in speaker simulation is good enough to work in any live situation... what's not to like?

Hi Muckemacher, our clients in studios do not use low impedance headphones, with a studio headphones I'm willing to bet the level will be very very low with 3V. Even if it would work, it would not be up to our standards. Captor is designed to be put between the amp and a sound card or a mixer in live situation, we offer other full standalone solutions that offer a proper headphones output.
@TwoNotestv
@TwoNotestv 6 жыл бұрын
No problem, just a decision to keep it working with phantom power and dedicated to studio and live usage, excluding de facto the standalone use as a headphones output for an amp.

Thank you so much I really need a box like this for silent recording my Vox amp. I have a question. I always record di tracks and then reamping them back to my Cubase with a radial reamp box. It’s always very hard to make a great sound out of this without disturbing my neighbors. So can I use the torpedo after the reamp box to capture the raw signal of my amp and then use the torpedo’s software to further tune the sound? Thank you 😊

Hi Henning please tell me (as im relatively new to the studio equipment) i have a Fender Super Champ X2, i have a small child and cannot play as much as i want during the day. Can the jack output of captor 8 work with normal guitar jack cable straight to guitar in of POD HD500x (to use reverbs&delays etc), and then to the computer with wall of sound? Or is this some "balanced" out and have to go straight in to audio interface with balanced inputs?

Would be interesting to hear the DI signals from the captor, captor x, live, and studio from the same amps, same settings, without any speaker emulation to see how they compare pre processing. If they are the same sound direct from the load box then I'm sure we could get the same results from the wall of sound plug in!

The speaker simulator sounds best when you have some ambience. Reverb, etc. The reactive load, the ability to use analog speaker simulator or bypass is great. The other nice feature is -20db attenuation. Overall it is a tremendous value to be able to play through a mixer without a speaker. I am glad, I tried one out. I hauled my amp to Sweetwater in Ft. Wayne, Indiana to audition mine.

Cool product by a cool company! It would be very interesting to compare different load boxes (resistive / reactive) through the same IRs to see how much the reactive part contribute to the sound on different amps. If it was available a two years ago, I would have bought it. Now I am using the Harley Benton / Jettanuator resistive load box or a DIY 15w reactive load that feeds a IR convolver running on a Raspberry Pi... This is actually a cheap DIY alternative to the Captor + CAB ( about 100euros) and the Rasperry Pi convolver has a surprisingly low latency.

I was eagerly waiting for Henning to demo this, rather excited about it! If I got it right, this unit solves several problems for me: 1. recording tube amps: just plug it into the captor, plug in a cab for listening what you play with attenuated level and record the line out, either with the included cab sim or direct for further processing with WOS (or other cab loaders) 2. cranking the tube amps and using the attenuator to reduce the level to neighbor-friendly volumes. 3. practicing with a mini amp like a joyo bantamp (which I don't have yet but would be a nice addition...), plugging the line out into my mixer an listening through headphones or my monitor speakers. If all this is true, this thing seems like a winner to me and a great solution for us home playing and recording people. The built in speaker sim is supposed to be identical to that in their preamp line, and when I tested the Le Clean, I compared the sim to their WOS plugin and found it pretty convincing, sometimes actually better than the IRs. I am gonna thomann this for sure! At this price definitely a no-brainer, I think they'll sell a shitload of these...

One thing I don't understand though: why three different models for 4,8 and 16 ohms? Is there a technical reason? I guess I'm gonna be petty safe with the eight Ohm version, but still?
@TwoNotestv

With our technology, having 3 impedances would mean 3 loadboxes. That's the case in Torpedo Studio and Reload. Needless to say, the price would be different. ;)

That, and no volume control for the attenuator is a deal breaker. I mean, wants the point if you can't level your volumes on the amp, and then use the attenuator to control the volume in different situations?

Two notes stuff is great, the only critique would be that there have to be 3 separate boxes to match different speaker impedance's, which is a shame, and also pretty costly.
@RobKingRC
@RobKingRC 4 жыл бұрын
If your just running from the Head to the box into the interface you should be fine since most amps have a impedance switch on the back letting you choose from 4, 8 and 16 ohm's you should be fine.
@careylewis7163
@careylewis7163 3 жыл бұрын
@@RobKingRC yes, but for instance, my Fender Custom Vibrolux Reverb does not have an impedance switch. I have to run it out 4 ohms, which means I can't use the same Two Notes Captor as I would use, when I play through my other amps which are switchable from 4, to 8, to 16.

What I'd have liked to know is if there is a difference in sound if you use the Captor +WOS compare to Torpedo live. I understand there is latency when you play in, but aside from that, are there any tonal differences? (with a good soundcard & A/D converters)
@TwoNotestv
@TwoNotestv 6 жыл бұрын
The hardware is different regarding the A/D conversion, your soundcard will bring something to the mix, but the DSP processing is similar.

Thanks. I already have a VB-101 in the studio. I'm thinking of getting a Captor too. I use dedicated A/D convertors & preamp. My soundcard is not interfering at all as it just received a SPDIF signal from the convertors. So, I presume aside from the preamp adding it's own bit of colouring maybe, it should be a pretty similar result to a Torpedo live etc. Is that correct to assume? Thanks again.
@TwoNotestv
@TwoNotestv 6 жыл бұрын
With a VB-101 and a Captor to feed its line input, you'll have a way better solution than a Torpedo Live. The electronics is way better in the VB-101 or Torpedo Studio.

QUICK but IMPORTANT TIP! The higher the recording frequency (I.E: 44,1khz, 88,2khz etc) the lower your latency! So besides running small cache buffer, you should setup @ 96khz or higher to get the lowest latency (up to 0.5ms). Your files get twice as large, and the load on your CPU is higher, but nowadays CPU's should be aple to run that perfectly.

Very informative video indeed! I'm evaluating a couple of options at the moment (Suhr, Fractal and this one) for two use cases - silent recording and attenuation. I know there's a debate going on about the merits of a low frequency hump in the impedance curve (the reactive load section) that the Suhr and Fractal have, but the Captor doesn't. However, soundwise, I can't tell the difference between the Suhr and the Captor. In any event, a good solution for recording is to use both outputs (the XLR and the 1/4" into two inputs of the interface and put them on two tracks. Monitor the track with the analog speaker sim, and mute the unfiltered track. Now you can play with IRs to your heart's content later. When you tried to use the 1/4" with your headphones it turned quiet. Are we saying, then, that if you use both outputs simultaneously, the outputs of both of them drop? May not be a big deal in this case, because you can work with the input gain in the interface, right?

Ive seen bigger packages looking down lol. Question, Ive been trying to one of the smarter youtube guitar player to do a pedal order video to explain to dummies like me who are just getting into pedals how to place them to get the best sound and take more advantage of what they could offer. Im struggling to figure out what goes first, what should go in to the front of the amp and what should go into the loop on the back. If you could do a series that would show this and how to pair multiple pedals in a chain Id do my best to be the first to watch each of those videos and share them with the students where I take lessons. Love the fact that you gave a elderly pooch a home to spend the rest of its days in by the way. Rock on sir.

Would have been nice if you tried it with Wall of sound simulations. I honestly didn't think the built in speaker sim sounded good in this video. Personally I think the Captor package is very appealing but I myself would use it with WoS or other IR:s. Therefore it would have been nice to hear how the Captor handles the loadbox task in conjuncture with IR:s.
@janminor1172
@janminor1172 6 жыл бұрын
ClaburP might've been interesting loading WOS with the same or similar setting as the torpedo studio, yes. In theory captor with WOS should sound similar to the studio. Regarding the built in cab sim, I found it pretty good for an analog sim. A bit of processing in the DAW and it could work pretty well even for recording (but for that purpose you'd probably go the WOS route). It wouldn't be the main reason I'd buy this kit, but for an add-on it is rather OK, especially for the price.

The internal load will be different from your own cabinet. Every speaker, speaker combination and cabinet has a specific impedance curve. So you'll notice a difference, maybe not that big (it depends also on how your amp output is designed), but what's important is that your amp will not hurt form it. ;)

If playing through headphones is a necessity, wouldn't using your torpedo cab be a better solution?

EytschPi42 -20db line out into the CAB? If I'm lacking critical understanding which would make the use the two together for a headphone solution possible, I'd appreciate a quick guide for dummies if you've the time.

If you want to use the cab headphone out, you can but with the captor between your amp and your cab. Amp's cab out to captor and captor's line out to cab line in ( without the poweramp simulation engaged). With a lunchbox amp all this stuff can sit on a pedalboard !)

Hmmm? I always plug my Hughes & Kettner IO out into my mixing board, and guess what? My mixing board has a HEADPHONE OUT! I come to find. Any cheap Behringer mixing board, at around 60 dollars has a Headphone out. Hope this Helps.

I can still go captor --> interface and hear through the inteface HP out right? That seems like an obvious "yes" but I just wanna be sure
@philipphematty6699
@philipphematty6699 6 жыл бұрын
It makes absolute sense to not put a headphone jack on that thing, because this is not a dummy load, but an attenuator with -20 db. If you crank the amp, you still have to have a speaker (or a dummy load) behind it. So while its still very useful to get a good line out signal that you can process through impulse responses, I can't think of any truely useful applications for headphones in this case. The cabinet will still be running and generating sound while you'd have your headphones on. I think this box exceeds at getting that line level, or when on stage, use the -20db attenuation for better stage sound while also feeding the mixer with a good DI-signal. So still a very useful box!

price point! no headphone out no biggie, then you would want a built in eq and reverb. @ $269 gotta draw the line - it's just a component to attenuate a loud rig and provide entry level speaker sim - it does all that...

Henning, can you check the AMT Pangaea? www.thomann.de/de/amt_pangaea_cp_100.htm It does not have a loadbox, but in a live situation it could solve the cab micing issue...
@EytschPi42
@EytschPi42 6 жыл бұрын
+BavarianMonkey well, without a loadbox, you can't use it with an amp, so how will it solve the cab micing issue? If you used it with he captor, the pangea could give you IRs... that could be a good combo
@bavarianmonkey8326
@bavarianmonkey8326 6 жыл бұрын
+ EytschPi42 Well, I'd imagine that in a live situation you'd love to hear what the hell you are playing and use a cab because of that - so the cab is your "reactive load". Of course, if you wanted to run silent you could use the reactive load in the captor and use the pangaea for the IRs. The IRs seem to be rather short and therefor unable to capture the room as well, but if you only need the "non roomey" part it seems like a good compact alternative to a torpedo live :) Grüße aus Bayern!

Mate, I’m AUSSIE ex soldier with PTSD on vets pension. I bought a MacBook Pro with Logic Pro. I have few nice tube amps from over the yrs. My Drs said start playing again and record your stuff. So got logic. But know its time to work out how i can record and not blow away neighbours. Last of funds.. This maybe to new for you to reply as this older video but a nice honest show. As I love tube amps and my old but good pedals. A would u say get the new thunderbolt 2i2 as was given the USB 2i2 and record guitar straight into program using there stuff on logic. Or go this way use my amps and pedals and if can plug it in to MacBook and get volume of amp running nice but not blow away peope as i dont sleep stuff all but as alone would love to take music further. I can get one in Australia still like $1100 but would i need anything else and could i record my tube sound into logic and just go from there also late night playing for myself?? Understand putting a lot to u But i really like your channel as you know your shit lol. But any help be great as the new 2i2 thunderbolt $650 in Aust. Or keep the USB old one but go this and start using my gear and the 2i2 scarlet for mic for some voice or a mic or connect for an acoustic stuff ??? Advice be unreal as down to last coin stuffed up in head so stage days gone well for a good while, But dont want to get sucked in with adds for this and that. When maybe this solve everything i get a real amp and some different cabs but use pedals rather than the digital. As I’m old school tubes true by pass and some good quality leads. Digital and shaping amps never seem to cut it. As born into Old man filling lounge room with bands for practice and playing all the Northern beaches clubs pubs. So love Blues, classic Rock, your Blues Rock Hendrix and the guys sounds right up to metal. As i big on giving all music its dues and places. But draw the line on the plastic music these days with no bands and some spunky chick thats been tone corrected and told what and how to sound. Where are the days of real. Guitars drums bass Singers. As there so much talent but radio tv all play throw away stuff. It shits me so many guys and chicks rock the place yet no one grabs them anymore or they start there own label to just sell to those who will buy. Our classic bands are getting older or a lot passing away. What’s the future $155 a ticket to se smoke mirrors lights one singer 50 dancers no sign of a band. Shit man ok I’m grumpy and love old straight tube gear. So i can only ask you may not even read this. But seems one more spend some cash but do best i can to record my sound and mix and add maybe a mate who like me doesn’t leave house but fantasic bass player and like 60 songs written while away in Iraq and Afghanistan. But no music to them. He would love me to record some rhythm then send it to him he adds his bass then we build and try adding lyrics. Yet we not piss anyone off and get good volume to make the tubes respond. In Australia be watching your other stuff. Just thought Shit ill Ask if get reply well then I know what to do and if the thunderbolt thing be handy later great but if think the two notes torpedo will give me no lag recording as not using there patches over my playing bingo ill order one this guy has new in box in shop or one of these, the claret is getting pushed heaps but this is for recording not live but as said my amps and pedals with either the torpedo cabs or Logic Pro as don’t want lag as ive heard if use the 2i2 scarlet USB clean connected and use the logic amps and cabs ill get latency, so I’m stuffed as 2i2 for voice and a torpedo and use my amp pedals and record straight to logic and fiddle or $650 for thunderbolt 2i2 yet only use all logic Sorry mate. But you no your crap and money is tight as my old gear is good maybe nice new pedal or two later. But starting to play more and run amp at good levels but record it with out mics and shit every place, i hope to hear so i can make right choice and expand as i go. Love your channel i get heaps laughs but real results. So many bullshitters out there not picking a country but one more than others Laugh My Arse Off!! . Cheers Matt

Hey Matt, if the USB interface has a low enough latency to play through it without too much delay, then keep it and use the Captor.... that way you can play your amps and pedals and that will make you happier than a simulation. Got through the Wall of Sound Plugin for the speaker simulation.
