Thank you for specifically demonstrating the fan noise and 100W attenuation. I think I might just get one of these! (16 ohm version for my Fryette Pittbull 100CL.)

-20 db should cut it WAY down. My THD Hotplate goes down to -16 and that takes a cranked 50w JMP down to conversation level. Cool stuff

I am quite curious how you set your level on the captor and then set the input and output in wall of sound to get the best tone. I've yet to find a video really taking about the best way to set those three levels

Hey man - Great video. Thank you. I'm just getting into this area - So when you are playing guitar in the video, are you running the sound of the guitar through your DAW, and into the room through your monitors so you can hear what is being recorded? I guess I'm wondering how to achieve my goal of being able to practice and record at low volume in my office studio but have an enjoyable experience (hearing the cab sim imaging ) without headphones. Thanks!

Thank you so much I really need a box like this for silent recording my Vox amp. I have a question. I always record di tracks and then reamping them back to my Cubase with a radial reamp box. It’s always very hard to make a great sound out of this without disturbing my neighbors. So can I use the torpedo after the reamp box to capture the raw signal of my amp and then use the torpedo’s software to further tune the sound? Thank you 😊

Hey man! Nice video! Using the IR sounds much better than GTR outuput. So, you can use it with or without a real cab, in a silent recording without damage the amp, right? This Wal of Sound can be loaded in Reaper as a plug-in?
@adamsteelproducer
@adamsteelproducer 6 жыл бұрын
Hey, yes all exactly right! I also prefer using an IR or Wall of Sound, but in a situation where all you have is the Captor, it still works! And wall of sound is a reaper compatible VST, yes- in fact that’s how I use it all the time :)

I know this video is four years old, but I'm just now looking for a setup for silent recording of amps. I just want to make it clear: Does the Torpedo make your speaker completely silent, allowing you to run the line output into an IR loader or DAW, where you have IR?

Good explanation, much appreciated - Let me ask, is there a loss in "feel" of the amp when playing through the Two Note - As someone who has experimented with many amp sims and IR's, "loss of feel" and "bounce off the fretboard" is something that ultra important from a writing standpoint - Thanks
@AlextheBant
@AlextheBant 5 жыл бұрын
Yes. As most of that feel purely comes down to volume. You'll always losr that feel through pc etc. I have the captor. Its great. But an amp is an amp. A cab is a cab

I just bought one of these and after having owned an Isolation cabinet, OX, WAZA TAE, and a Palmer PDI-03 I can say the Captor X came out on top. I can finally lay down cranked marshall tracks quietly without much loss. The WAZA TAE was ok, but it had loads of un-needed features and was a heavy thing. The OX was ok also. I simply prefer the captor, it sounds as good (or better) as the other more expensive ones and is easier to tote around...

Your Marshall should have several impedance options, you would connect the one that matches the number on whichever Captor you have (8 to 8, 16 to 16 etc)
@DelReiRock

Hey man. To connect the captor into the sound interface do you use a normal instrument cable or a "cabinet" cable?
@jonassturm2787
@jonassturm2787 6 жыл бұрын
Use a shielded "normal" stereo (trs) instrument cable. Don't cheap out on cables ;)
@adamsteelproducer
@adamsteelproducer 6 жыл бұрын
No, to connect the Captor to an interface you should be using an XLR, as the circuitry requires 48V phantom power. I agree you should use good cables though
@tcerecords5253
@tcerecords5253 4 жыл бұрын
You connect the amp to the captor using a 1/4” SPEAKER CABLE (not an instrument cable). You connect from the captor to your interface using an XLR

Is it important to connect your physical cab to the speaker out even if you just want silent recording? Or is it safe for you to just connect your amp to the torpedo then into your interface, no physical cab?
@adamsteelproducer
@adamsteelproducer 2 жыл бұрын
It’s important NOT to connect your physical cab if you want it silent! Otherwise the sound comes out of the speaker. It’s designed specifically to replace the speaker load

Is the "noise" from the transformer in the Amp and fan in the captor noticeable in are recorsing/tracking or just in the room
@tcerecords5253
@tcerecords5253 4 жыл бұрын
The noise generated inside the Captor is a small whiny fan sound and a super quiet guitar sound. These are only noticeable if you are sitting right next to it. It doesn’t effect the sound leaving the unit.

So if I plan on getting the captor purely for in home recording. Do I not need the Cab pedal since I’m using the software? Also do you know if the wall of sound software that comes with the captor get the update for 2 mics simulation?

@adamsteelproducer 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Edgar- yes you don’t need the cab pedal if you’re only recording into software. And Wall of Sound could always do 2 mics, or even more- the limit was always in the Cab hardware (but even that is all 2 mics now)

@adamsteelproducer 6 жыл бұрын
Why not indeed. I personally am very comfortable with an Axe, but a great many guitarists are more comfortable with using a single amp, with tactile control and a very immediate feedback from the controls- this is a great way to harness the tone of a favourite amp without having to substitute the whole thing

Modelers are good. But have 2 problems: - choice paralysis. Too much tweakery. A tube amp is set and sounds good. Done. All your time goes to playing. - 2 they still don't react the same. Live i could live with my modeler as you can't tell live anyway. But in the studio, or for personal pleasure i prefer a real amp Source: guy who played modelers all his life, and still does.
