For future reference fishing drones are cheap and have wireless releases ;) You could use them to clip a line and then release it so the drone isn’t in the system. Fly across a U double fishing line. Tag it. Use the fishing drones wireless release so it’s free from the system. Then pull across larger lines until you can safely cross the system.

Damn, I scored some brand new KT3 in 16mm and have been too scared to use it for life support because knots and Kevlar don't mix. I had also been doubting the efficacy of splicing it, thinking it still wouldnt be safe enough. But traversing those towers on beat up old 3mm cord! With horrible knots, not even carefully thought out knots. Total death wish stuff.

Nice vid about crazy stuff! Tagging that tower is an Interesting problem, it starts me thinking. Usually I have easy access to the other anchor when rigging highlines, not like in Moab... Maybe the drone could carry the biner with two strands of fishing line. Keep both ends on Your side and the line should turn around the biner. You can also tape it to the biner using less sticky tape for the flight. After the biner is hooked pull one end and replace it to thicker cords gradually. The harder part is to get the connecting knots of thicker ropes across the biner. You can shake the ropes (carefully) to send waves and have it jump a bit at the far end while pulling. There are also techniques to close the biner after successfully hooking it. For example wrap the fishing line around the tape which locks the gate. You can cut it by pulling the line.

That's gonna be a hard nope for me on that one. Lol That tag line.

Maybe something like a Mad Rock Trigger Wire could come in handy. It's 23kN closed, major access. Of course, I'm assuming it would stay open in flight and then close as intended upon connecting to the chain/hanger. Much lighter than a steel carabiner too, with around 175g savings; not a lot but, I assume every bit counts for the drone.

Hey! Have you ever try notch throwline dynema from treecare induatry? 2.2mm and have a good breaking strength.

Something like a u15II 100kv motor x 6 at 700$ a peice and 200ish a peice for esc's, a few hundred for a frame, a like 800ish for good 14-16 inch props, and a whole bunch for the brains you can carry an actual slack line across those large gaps. Then fit it with a super nice dslr and get some super professional shots also. But you'd been carrying tons a weight in drone to any spot.

couldn't you use the kong from carabiner instead of the taped open steel carabiner, so you have an actual closed connection. This way you could then try to use a kamikaze knot (modified sheep shank where middle stand is cut so when tension is released the knot comes in two separate sections). So this way you can release the drone from the system. If this was to work you could do the same with a second line and have a redundant system for you to slide across meaning you could actually tie in with a tether so if you fell both lines would catch you and if one snapped the other would be their as a back up.

In-feckin-sane!!! To HowNOTtoHIGHLINE - Would this work ??? >>Send the drone over with the carabiner already looped with enough return length of the thin cord. Connect the carabiner to the chain. Bring drone back to you with the return end of the cord. Tie your CORRECT size highline cord to an end of the thin cord. Pull it over (via the return) through the carabiner and back to you. (Like they did in "olden-days" firing an arrow with thin cord then tied to thicker cord etc)

I seems like you wouldn't need to fly over a loop to get a loop. If you have the drone skills to hook the chain with the carabiner, then how about this: Bend a small scrap of wire into a loop. Tape the wire loop to the carabiner. Suspend the carabiner from the drone with a short line. This line would hook onto the small wire loop you taped to the carabiner. Run the tag line through the carabiner and tie it to the drone. After you hook the chain with the carabiner, you would then work the drone to pull the short line free from the wire hook on the carabiner. Then, with the tag line still attached, you fly the drone back creating a full loop with the tag line. You could experiment with different wire loop shapes to get a good compromise between the carabiner staying connected long enough to hook the chain, and the short line releasing easily from the wire hook when needed. PS, the strength of that line with knots is way to little. I hate to say it, but I wouldn't bet on your friends making it to old age.

I know asking a question on youtube is like pissing in the wind but... Is it possible to splice chord that has a core. Eg. to create prussics with out a double fishermens knots in them?

Don't forget that putting weight in the middle of a longer span will produce a higher force at the ends, so this was even sketchier since the force was lower when you did it.
