Great video again. It really shows what it takes to get the right feel of the club. I know I prefer midsize bc of the feeling I have even though I as well am a medium glove. I got tired of adding wraps so made the the move from std to midsize and shot strike was better and more in target. Thanks for the great knowledge you provide

Like many comments, I discovered using larger grips than standard was a huge improvement to my "comfort" and translated into the more controlled hits on all clubs.

I know this is an "older" video, but would love to see a comparison in reference to tapered vs less tapered vs non tapered grips. Plus 4 and plus 2 (lower hand wraps) are a very talked about grip configuration, but have yet to see a straight forward explanation of the potential benefits/hindrances of this setup. Regardless, love the channel, love the content. Keep up the great work

Another stellar video! Love the talk about swing weight in relation to grips. No more “just slap on that flavour of the month grip” yearly! While the differences of swing weight truly affected his delivery I’m curious if taper size will affect his feel and if he thinks he can turn it over more with an aggressive taper rather than no taper. Great thing you have Iron Matt to test these theories!

Best one ive seen on grip size ever. Especially regarding the swing weight changes. Nice work. Ive changed down a size to undersized but made them taper-less so they are the same size/completely even in my hands top to bottom. Best grip setup ive ever had. Love the level of tech you two bring to any conversation. I fought swing weight for an entire season, Pure Mid Size grips were 64 grams, went to Winn Dri-Tac Lite at 25 gram and ended up with Golf Pride MCC Regular at 52 grams. Swing weights were all over the chart and my ball striking was horrible until I got back to "normal"!

I have gone back and forth between +2 and +3 wraps under a .580 on a .600 butt. Played lamkin my entire career, but I have tried the new Golf Pride MCC +4 on my wedges +2 wraps and it made my wedges take off so straight. The Grips are a bit heavy but Cleveland builds my wedges at D6 to offset. Great video guys. Matt's so good, if you gave me that skinny grip I would have cold topped at least one of them.

Great post fellas. I've been using midsize grips for years. I don't have big hands but I have long fingers and the middle finger(go figure) of my left hand digs into the meaty part of my palm. For your guys own info, if your interested where I really like the midsize grips is on my wedges especially for chipping and pitching. Feels like I have more control over the wedges and on my driver. All my clubs have midsize grips on them but the wedges and the driver are the clubs I prefer them on the most. Cheers.👍🇨🇦🏌

Really useful information. I'm very new to golf (only a few weeks really) and am going for my first ever fitting next week. I'm nervous it's too soon since I still hoof the ball as often as not, but I'm a big guy and standard length clubs are impossible. Thank you for making this awesome video. I am a oversize jumbogrip player. It was the best decision I made switching from standard grip size. However I want to point out is that whenever I show my clubs to normal size players they were shocked and felt uncomfortable to them because the hold it with interlocking grip. I myself hold it like a baseball grip, or 10 fingers grip.

I've been golfing my whole life (I'm 24 now) and never even considered grip size to be a factor. When I just couldn't figure out why I hit my 3 wood straight but hooked my driver i realized it could be because my 3 wood is midsize and my driver is standard. Now my driver has a midsize grip and its straight or falls off to the right like my other shots.

Fascinating video. I would suggest that Winn DriTac Lites could have been used for the jumbo to keep from changing the swingweight. At 33g the SW would move back to the undersized grip. I like the Winn grips and have experimented with the lites and standard and don't have any issue even thought there is 17g difference for same sized grip(??). I will look for a swing weight for your video next. Thanks Fellas!

Great video guys. Always played with a draw/pull draw, struggled to fade the ball. I've since changed clubs from TM M2 Tour into JPX 919 Forged. Mizuno typically being 1 degree flatter, and higher lofted made the pull disappear, but my hands are prone to flipping. I've gone from a standard size Lamkin z, to a Golf Pride MCC+4. I find drawing the ball now more of an effort. The grip has definitely contributed to making the ball go straighter, and even given me the ability to play a more natural fade (which I actually prefer as it's more controllable, and fades are a better miss than a pull IMO). For guys out there struggling with certain shots, try changing the grip, it can make that slight difference we're aiming for...and gives us an excuse to buy/try something new!!!

I went from standard my whole life to an MCC4 midsize trying to straighten out my ball flight. Now I’m pushing good shots and also having a ton of inconsistency in contact (mainly hitting it fat more often). The contact issues have been really troubling, so I’m going to have to experiment with something smaller than midsize w wraps on a standard

I never dreamed grip size could make such a difference. My (unfitted) set of ping G10's have a 2 iron that i purchased specifically for "punching out". Its like hitting a board so I never used it for anything else. It needed a new grip so I put a Golf Pride MCC +4 Midsize grip to replace the standard grips. I am now absolutely cranking it out to 215-220 yards with little vibration and quite well controlled. Just loving it. My next set will be fitted of course. I never dreamed that having clubs fit properly would make such a huge difference.

I'd like to see a long term test on grip size because golfers have a tendency to override changes after they get more used to them. I know for myself, I went to bigger grips to try and tone down a hook, and it worked initially, but after a while they seemed to make no difference. I even used Jumbo max grips, and I had more of a tendency to shut the face down too much with those.

Been playing for 20 years and have learnt more about golf from your videos than all the info in that time. Just had my irons reshafted, swing weight has gone from D1 to D7. My fitter explained that a heavier grip would bring the swingweight down. Currently have standard Golf Pride multi comp's fitted 1 layer of tape. Could you recommend a heavier standard grip to move it nearer to D3/D4. Will extra layers of tape make a difference. My glove size is ML. Thanks

I've actually tried the baseball grip at the driving range today! For me, I actually noticed some improvements to my irons and hybrids. My 3 wood and driver I compared my interlock grip with baseball. 3 wood was a little inconsistent, but I think with some adjustments I can let it fly. For the driver, interlock was better for me. In short, I have a use for both methods.

Like the video guys well done. Though I changed my driver grip to a midsize cp2 with 3 layers of tape and it was a game changer was hitting it straighter and further, and my dispersion was alot tighter. Not sure if the larger grip size was making me put my hands on the grip in a different position. Used to struggle to draw the ball now I can do it either way.

Got fitted for a set of p760s last year and decided to go with midsized grips because it felt better in the hand. I didn't put any thought into the grips being the difference but I all of a sudden lost my natural draw of the ball and was having a harder time turning it over. I still played pretty well but had to literally re-learn how to line up my shots and it honestly was a bit frustrating losing my beautiful draw. It's easy to intentionally hit a cut but it's harder to draw the ball so for being able to work the ball back and forth, I'll be switching back to standard grips. Thanks for the video.

Great video guys, A lot of old pro ''fitters'' go by glove size = grip size... which has always been wrong for me, I have large hands but like an extremely tight glove so always wear a size smaller. So bad ''fittings'' always put me onto medium grips [which can spin in my hands and give me blisters]. Until I got fitted properly and they measured my mitts and put me in a midsize.. it took me a while to adjust to them, similar results to your video, my normal fade started to turn into pushes [I'm R/H]... but I stuck in there and adjusted to it. Like you say it's a timing thing. For me It's so much more comfortable using the midsize and worth the extra range hours. BTW I play the Srixon 765/965 combo, 0.50 inch longer in project x LZ 6.0 and wouldn't have a clue what the swing weight is??.. They feel great, but wondering after seeing this if that half inch is helping with the extra grip weight?? [which are Lamkin utx midsize] - Thanks

I've often wondered about this. I'm currently going back and forth with sets of standard and midsized. Also my wedges/woods have different grips, which sucks. I need to regrip the wedges to match. Sometimes, certain grips, can feel like holding a pencil, but I think I'm capable of playing equally bad with regular or midsized grips! I can't use a Jumbo though. Real eye opening about the weight differences. One thing we can agree on is replacing slick or worn grips with new ones.

I would have expected you'd use a driver(the longest club in the bag) to see if grip size matters or not. It's also the club that I would think most people put the most effort into swinging, thus you'd see more of a difference if there is one. But, you'd need to adjust the swing weight for each grip to make sure it's not the swing weight or heft feel that's making a difference, of course that's more difficult to do with irons unless you want to use lead tape for the temporary adjustments.

Many thanks for another stunning Vid Guys. As I have got older and the arthritis in the fingers has got worse I find that a softer Midsized Grip is the most comfortable, but the down side is that the swing weight then decreases and I can`t feel where the Club head is. I suppose the solution is to get Matt to take my shots for me! How do you fancy moving to Manchester Matt?

My hand size is between normal and midsize. Normal grips make my hands close the club face at impact. I play midsize with one layer of tape. I like the feel to have the club more in my hand than in the fingers. Makes the club face close less or not at all for me. My midsize grips (Karma Midsize) weight 55 grams. The standard grips I got after my fitting of the clubs weights 52 grams. So there is little less of one swing weight in change.

Great video but...there's a bit of misinformation here. Changing to heavier grips changes swing weight, but ONLY on the swingweight scale. It does not make a club feel less head heavy. The total weight of the club will obviously increase but unless you're putting on a Jumbo grip it would not be very noticeable. Think of it this way - if you wore a heavy watch on your wrist (like Phil Mickelson), or stuck some lead tape in your glove, and swung your club, would your club head FEEL lighter? Of course not. Adding or taking away weight from the butt end of a club only "fools" the simple swingweight scale. The worst possible thing to do if putting on a heavy grip, is then to increase the club head weight just to "fool" the swingweight scale into indicating that the "measured" swing weight is the same as it was. Generally speaking, the likely effect for most would be creating a overall heavier golf club which could slow down your swing speed. A long standing clubbuilder's rule is to swingweight a club using a 50 gram grip- that is the true swingweight. If you want to put a 58 gm grip on the club it will not make the club head or swing weight feel lighter. usual recommendation is to just leave the head weight alone when adding a heavier grip. The "real" perceived swingweight will have not changed.

Just saw this video and after being fit it’s interesting as I have been standard but went with undersized as I wear a cadet small glove.

I use standard grips in all my irons - in my wedges standard +1 layer , and midsize in 3 wood and driver . For me it is perfect and comfortable - reasoning is the longer shafts in the driver/3 wood to seems harder to hold on to , and the wedges feel more comfortable a shade bigger

I always thought using a midsized grip would tame my hook, but overtime I realized standard is good for me. I use a cadet medium and used to use midsized, but switched this summer to standard and haven't seen as much tail as I usually saw before hand.

For years I struggled with an occasional viscous hook drive...I'm talking two fairways over!!! My father put an oversize grip on his driver...and I used it for an entire round. I did not miss a single fairway. I immediately put one on my driver...and it cured my hook...literally overnight! I don't have that problem with my other clubs...so for now I'm keeping them the same. I think the OS grips keep your wrists from over rotating. At least...that's what it feels like to me.

I have the same experience. My hybrids were hooking really bad with a midsized grip - but when I used the Jumbomax (small) on all three hybrids - they go straight most of the time. Very rarely do I hit hooks with these now.

One of the best channels on KZfaq and probably the best technical channel for golf. SHOUT out to Ian and Matt for providing such awesome content. My glove size is SMALL. My own experience on grips has been surprising and in a great way. My brother put me on to the Golf Pride CP2 Jumbo. If I had gone only by the given narrative that larger you go in grip size the more likely you are to slice the ball, then I would not have tried the jumbo grip, as my natural swing path is to slice the ball, though that has improved considerably over the last 12 months and I am now able to draw the ball. It is also worth noting that I have suffered from golfers elbow on both left and right arms, but predominantly the right and so has my brother (more about this below). As part of my own experiment I initially had the two longest clubs in my bag, being the driver and 3 wood, changed from a standard Lamkin Crossline grip to the Golf Pride CP2 Jumbo. The change in shot shape was instant and dramatic. With driver it went from having to be really aware of my imminent and more likely slice to a slight pull draw, so much so that I initially had to move the ball position further back in my stance as well as make a shaft adjustment. After having a few sessions on the range I have made a few additional modifications to ball position and shaft position and I am now able to control whether I fade the ball, push draw the ball or pull draw the ball, which I have never been able to do at will. With my 3 wood having the Jumbo grip has straightened my shot shape considerably, but I have to be way more accurate in my swing path delivery with this club. What it has done for my golf game in real terms is to drop my handicap by 3 shots in 7 days. As a result I have now fitted the Golf Pride Jumbo Grip to my hybrid, 4 iron and 5 iron. I will play several games with these before I change any of the clubs over. I have always hit my shorter irons pretty well so I wont mess around with them yet. So the question I asked myself is WHY? Why the dramatic change? ... and the only thing I can come up with is that I dont appear to be gripping my right hand as hard with the jumbo grip. This has also aided in the golfers elbow issue. When I mentioned this to my brother he said... "well that's interesting, because I haven't had any golfers elbow since changing the grip on my driver to the Jumbo Grip" In summary...from a personal perspective I would be looking at different sizes for each club. The longer clubs seem to me to be better with a larger grip. The next part of my own experiment will be to fit a midsize grip to my mid length irons and to leave the shorter irons with a standard grip. The proof is always the results on the course. So far having the jumbo on the longer clubs is working for me. I think also what this shows me is not get stuck in any single narrative, but rather be open to what works for you as an individual. The other thing is to consider grip size as part of every club fit for each individual club and not the some grip size necessarily the same grip size across the whole set, especially when it comes to the driver. I hope this info is of use to others. Thanks again to Ian and Matty, and hopefully oneway I can fly to Canada and play golf there, and maybe get fitted for my next set of clubs with TXG.

Great video. I think swing weight is so over looked in most fittings, even with great fitters. Is there a guideline of the swing weight changes to expect with building up a grip? If the difference in a standard and a midsize grip is 8 grams (with that brand), what about an extra wrap or two on a standard grip? It’d be cool to see you guys talk about the differences in a .580 vs .600 grip on a standard Dynamic Gold type .600 butt shaft

Watched about 6 of your vids this morning. This was very interesting. I am 6'5" and have very large hands and long fingers. I used to use jumbo lampkin grips and had to deal with increasing my swingweight to adjust. Love my MCC Decades with triple wrap. Tried to the MCC plus, but did not like feel. I also like a D4/D5 swingweight.

Have you tried JumboMax Golf grips? They are really big, but not Super heavy. They are great if you hook it. And a good swing trainer if you slice. I used one on my driver for a few months. I eventually got rid of it because of a natural tendency to slice. However I was smashing it for awhile with them. They are worth a look. But you may have to play with the swing weight of your club head to bring it in line. Several youtube videos about them. kind of goofy but very convincing.

As someone who has always been Mr Average (standard length, reg shaft, standard lie, standard grip, medium glove...) I would be really interested to have a fitting to the highest quality that TXG does, just to see if I would still be Mr Average. One day!
