Loved the Video, thanks for the info. I have to take my clubs in to get re-gripped and Its a bit mystifying to me (like most ALL of golf). I have been reading a bit about the benefits of having different grips for different parts of the bag. in the bottom third having something lighter weight for enhanced feel, a more "grippy' one in the mid/long irons and a more oversized one for the woods. Similar to the difference in a putter grip vs club grips. Any thoughts?

Drivers woods and hybrids I like same grip, irons and wedge can be a different style and sometimes I’ll go separate grips for wedges. Really has to do with torsional stability and feel. The only other thing Is that I almost always recommend a fatter bottom hand such as In The plus 4’s. I’ve been using this technique even before they existed, and highly recommend it for irons and wedges at the bare minimum

Great video. i have pretty small hands so thought standard grip size was the answer. however, i do feel like I'm gripping to hard, running through gloves and losing the club at the top of the swing. guess ill have to make a jump to midsize. but does hand size play a role at all or just a lot less then people think?

It’s not as big as one might think it really is a feel/personal preference more then anything else, in fact I have smaller hands myself and I have found that I prefer jumbo size grips. So I would tell anyone to replace a grip on your 7 iron and try it out to see if you like it.

One thing I found through my trail and error of grips is texture issues. I don’t know how many folks change their grip from corded to something else. I did zgrip corded aligns which are great - but tear your hands up until they are built up. All companies seem to be going softer while keeping it tacky - smart. I discourage firm corded grips for 90% of people.

so I have regular sized grips, i measured the length of my hand it is 7.25 inches long and my longest finger is 3.25 inches long. According to Ping golf grip size chart it says i should be using an Aqua or -1/64. So I assume i would turn the club over more, creating a straight to draw shot. right now my misses are right, not really a slice but a push. Would you recommend me doing this? thanks
@SwingFit
@SwingFit Жыл бұрын
Personally speaking my customers generally do better with a size or two larger not smaller. My explanation is that as the grip gets smaller individuals will have a tendency to grip tighter, as a result this restricts the wrist movement and your not able to release the golf club. So my suggestion would be two fold. Try a smaller grip first to see if it helps but most importantly pay attention to how it feels , so you feel you can swing the club without loosing control? Then try the next size up and just make sure to grip a little lighter and who knows this just might not only feel better but it may be the exact thing you need to get the ball moving in The direction you want. As a tip I like a 5/6 in the left hand for pressure and the right is more like a 3/4 so barely holding on. Hope this helps.

@SwingFit
@SwingFit Жыл бұрын
Sw will get lighter anytime you shorten the driver, and then when you switch to a midsize grip this too will also decrease the SW. so it’s almost like a double whammy here, so I would only make both changes if you have the ability to add more headweight to the driver..so depending on grip you are likely goin to need to add 9-15 grams of mass to the head to bring SW back in check. Start with 9 first then increase it until you like the feel and release. Hope this helped.

@@SwingFit yes it did help thank you iv been In contact with 'club fitters' and mentioned SW to them and iv been surprised that one never heard of it one said it didn't matter and the other said a heavier grip will balance the SW out but he must have meant balance total club weight ,not swingweight so again I'm unsure which way to go I think now I'll just keep the standard grip since I'll not be able to add any weight to head as it doesn't have weights it a case of cut grip and hope for the best without adding any lost weight.

As I have grown older Grip comfort has become more important to me due to arthritis in my finger & thumb joints. I started off playing with full corded hard grips but these days I'm in CP2 midsize which are the softest grips that I have found. I'm planning to experiment with JumboMax lightweight Grips this year as a continuation of this process. I'm hoping that being lightweight they wont have too much effect on the swing weight, any thoughts?

When I do correct my right hand grip it feels a little strange but the ball flies better. Would I benefit from going to a standard grip instead of my long time midsize? i am thinking the small grip would help me with my strong right hand grip

Two options, go with a std size grip with 3 wraps under left hand so no build up down low. Or go with a midsize but the non plus 4 style so we want a traditional taper so the right hand is smaller.

@SwingFit

Yes this is a very real problem, and heck I will even go as far to say that most fitting establishments haven’t even made the investment yet either. We don’t have every grip, but we do offer the most popular grips in all sizes, and when coupled with our ability to interchange the grips as the fit progresses becomes just the icing on the cake. As an FYI I usually leave the grip for last… thanks for sharing…

Could you tell me why many pro’s are going with graphite shafts in their putters. Thank you !
@SwingFit
@SwingFit 3 жыл бұрын
Oddly enough graphite shafts can actually play stiffer then that if steel and research has showed that because of the size and weight of the putter heads that your traditional putter shaft can torsional rotate more even though at a slower pace. With these new graphite shafts like from Fujikura KBS or LAGP these things are practically eliminated

Is it the norm to use midsize on the woods and just standard on irons? What about mid on driver and standard on 3w I know it's personal but what did feel better for anyone here? Mid or standard on 3w?
@SwingFit
@SwingFit Жыл бұрын
So typically I would recommend the same size and style grip for the driver and fairway woods, and then if you want to switch them switch at the irons and wedges with another size and or style. The reason is we all know we swing the woods differently from the irons and wedges so I’m ok with having a different flavor grip as it can sometimes help remind us that we are to swing them a little differently…great question.

Thanks I'm actually going right now to get them changed but I'm still in a tizzy a bit lol cause I was going to keep the 3w standard grip but driver midsize and I know it's not a rule it's personal preference but I'm having the driver and fairway different who knows when I get there I might just change my mind and stay with standard grip

I have Winn dri tac on my irons and the original jumbomax on my woods, now I'm wondering how much my swing weight is off.
@SwingFit
@SwingFit 3 жыл бұрын
Oh snap original jumbo max with out question is going to drop your SwingWeight down to like B9-C1 So if you like the size of those grips swap them out for the ultra lites, but guess what those are super light so you will have to add a little counterweight in the handle approximately 15-20 grams should suffice.

@SwingFit
@SwingFit 3 жыл бұрын
@@austinbarnard1152 so irons will likely be ok, it’s the jumbo max grips that’s on your woods that I would be alarmed about. But if you are hitting them ok then don’t change, now in regards to your irons if you are finding that you are blocking or leaving your shots out to the right then adding a counterweight under the grips to lighten the SW closer to your woods might help, reach out to a club builder and have them do one club to see if it helps.

If you go with a bigger grip how do you offset becoming a fader?
@SwingFit
@SwingFit 3 жыл бұрын
Yes there is one truth to the his for sure, but when I’m considering grip size I’m looking at the desired shot shape first and foremost and then I’ll compare that to how the customer is able to release the golfclub in order to achieve the desired result. So I’m using larger grips to either correct the release pattern or or to aide with the consistency of the release because of being able to alter the balance point of the golf club. In the end I’ve found the individuals who made the switch and likely ended up fading it more then they liked was more of a result of not changing grip pressure once they made the switch. Larger grips should promote lighter grip pressure because there’s more surface area to hold on too. Hope this helped

Hey John, love the video. Just one question for you, why save the grip fitting to the end of the fitting process vs the onset? Knowing that it can effect face, swing weight, etc., wouldn't it make sense to figure that out 1st so when you are testing heads and shafts you have that variable ironed and can be certain that the grip shaft head combo is the ideal ? Again, love the video just curious if that step could be more beneficial earlier in the fitting
@SwingFit
@SwingFit 3 жыл бұрын
Very great question. Here’s my thought process right, wrong or indifferent. I like correcting the big movers first and foremost, so clubheads and shafts without question affect the the ball flight more then anything else, so once I get really dang on close and all we have to do is tighten everything up to move it the one last degree then that’s when I like to focus on Final swingweight, grip, and adjustable sleeves to almost kind of be like the icing on the cake. Hey Mr. customer are you happy with the extra 30 or so yards, well watch this, and it’s when you not only give them the distance but help them be tighter and more consistent by making these last little adjustments that you get the, Oh my you absolutely changed my game response. Hope this helped.

This one truth be told I very rarely see this ever in a fitting facility, but from my perspective it’s a part of the build that shouldn’t be over looked so o build process around being able to interchange the grips as I found it to be another effective way of changing the outcome...if you can’t find anyone that does it then ask them if they have the ability to blow grips on or off and if they do just pick up 4-5 grips that you would like to compare and ask them if they would help you test them out.

@SwingFit
@SwingFit 3 жыл бұрын
Generally speaking smaller grips can help close the face faster which in turn can protect against the right side, but if there is one piece of advice I can share to help it would be this. Sometimes what you think may happen just might end up producing the exact opposite of what you thought. The good news is if this does happen then simply go the other direction and you just might end up with the result you was hoping to achieve.
