Type-B in Dodonpachi - a quick primer on how to use it effectively

Күн бұрынI always get a little sad seeing the poor helicopter get maligned for being difficult to use. The gunpod handling is pretty versatile, with it moving faster if you're holding down when you tap left or right, and you can recenter it any time by briefly tapping/holding the laser button long enough to recenter it without actually using the laser. However, if you're finding it tricky to handle the way the gunpods swivel, you can just get in the habit of tapping the laser button to keep them firing more or less forward as you move around, which basically means B-L is slightly slower but as wide as A-S is, and B-S is a superwide forward shot with tons of damage!
This tech applies to Donpachi, Dodonpachi, and Daifukkatsu. It doesn't really apply to Saidaioujou since the helicopter there turns super fast and is pretty speedy at taking down popcorn, making it easy to use. It also doesn't apply to Daioujou (or DDP II Bee Storm) because there's no helicopters. ;w;

I watched this yesterday but didn't get around to commenting - fantastic resource though! In DFK, Type-B is my fav and what I've used for most of my clears. I see BB likes it too. Someday I'll play this one as it always looks super wicked!

Cool technique! I always thought Type-B was a lot easier to use in DFK (my fav ship there) but tricky in DP/DDP - I'll have to give this a go.

DFK I find is the worst incarnation of the green heli, mainly because the turning speed is so slow. You can't turn the pods faster by holding down + left/right like you can in DP or DDP either. It's still my fave shot type there as I like the width and speed it has, I just wish its gunpods turned faster so it could sweep wide quickly. Type B is straight up the strongest in terms of raw damage in DP. Using C button rapidfire, its shots deal slightly MORE damage than its laser does, except on bosses who appear to get a damage bonus from lasering. It's super well worth learning to use, though it's trickier to use in the loop compared to Type A because its wider, more aggressive shot triggers those revenge bullets easily! Type B is really good in DDP. Statwise it deals a ton of damage per hit (more than the others, I think its rapid fire is actually stronger than Type A at close range?) and has lots of width. B-S covers a huge amount of the screen to the point where it's hard to score with due to killing everything so quickly, and B-L is as wide as A-S's shot is which is very impressive. Both B-S and B-L also have better speed over Type C while still offering the option to attack diagonally (albeit it's trickier to do and takes a bit of practice). Even if you can't handle using its gunpods like that, it can still be used easily with this technique as a super well balanced wide shot. :)

Depends on a few factors. Do you enjoy playing on PC? Or on a console like Xbox, Switch? I'd recommend many PC shmups that are also free, like ChoRenSha 68k. Check out the ones made by X.X Game Room like "Eden's Aegis": xxgameroom.itch.io/edens-aegis X.X also made a ton of other good freeware games perfect for beginners like Blue Wish Resurrection. If you want quality commercial games, Drainus is a really great recent release for PC and Switch that's like 20 bucks and is fantastic. Lots of arcade games such as shmups made by CAVE are playable in emulation, too. I also highly recommend Giga Wing, and Espgaluda.
