Tips for new nids player: -Magnets are your friends, a tyranid hug is a deadly one even amongst your minis. -Hormagaunts needs weight in there base, if the magnet is not enougth, fishing weigth are a good option. -Washes or contrast paint does magic to paint your bugs. After myself painting a couple of hundreds the traditionnal way, I would simplify my colors quite much. Also, nids can be all colors you want. They are tons of tutorial for you on youtube for all kinds of different color schemes. -Dont forget to make numnumnum sounds when your gaunt successfuly charge. :)

He speaks the truth. One of my favorite narrative games to run with new players at my local shop once they get their feet on the ground is a trial by fire. There are plenty of them that the veteran players have signed up to run, Daemonic incursion, Ork speedfreak Waaagh, Grey Knight ambush, etc... all set armies vs the player to see how well their new army is going. Mine is the Swarm. Only Tyranid troops, endless swarm. Genestealers, Gaunts, warriors and gribblies. And the new player tries to hold out 6 full turns. Everyone always loves playing and loves watching. There is something...i hate to use the term magical, but magical, about a new player with their first army forging a legend and creating memories about a last stand against the Endless Swarm. Its something we veteran players should always strive to create for the new players. Fun.

@@ConfusedGuardsman Its my local GW. I've been playing there for years and we've been getting a steady stream of new players. It started as a joke "Oh just wait until you play Frank and his Black Legion" etc...And then it evolved into actually having set matches for fun for the new players. Best advice I can give is check out local stores and ask about the scene, how friendly they are, etc. As a personal thing I stay away from the hyper-competitive stores/leagues as I feel it sucks alot of the fun out of the game, especially for the newer/casual players.

@@baldermort It really is a good feeling, seeing new players forging their own characters and story. Be they youngsters with their Christmas box, older players trying a new hobby, or returning players looking to light that spark again. Giving them a chance to make their army theirs, and theirs alone. Many of them will play Marines, but its their Marines, their tactics, their story. And you relive what it was first like to play those matches through their eyes. You're the NPC, the Dungeon, the first boss, and your job isn't to test them, but to show them how far they've come, and make sure they enjoy it.

The endless swarm of gaunts - a thing of terror in prose, akin to the zombie horde, only faster. And with guns. On the tabletop, however... unless there is a synapse nearby it quickly devolves into the other player having a fresh hunting season as all the little critters try to find a hole to hide in.

I remember playing against the 'nids back in 2005, my mate had created a truly nasty army list centered around his newly acquired biovores and he was lobbing spore mines at me trying to pin down my fast moving raiders. One of the best single combats of that entire game took place around the wreckage of a skimmer that had been hit by a lucky mine. The occupants, along with two other units of warriors were trying to fight off an equal number of gaunt units and the entire thing rapidly devolved into a meatgrinder as the hormagaunts advanced and were met by a wall of splinter rifle fire, half of their number fell before they even made contact but the counter fire from devourers and fleshborers of their second group reaped a gruesome toll... In the end the remaining gaunts were mopped up by my haemonculus, but you could almost hear him swearing over what a mess it was going to be putting the gore slick pile of my troops back together again.

If there is a massive ecosystem that the Tyranids forge within their Horde, but that ecosystem will never be understood by us in the Ordo Xenos, and I speak of from experience. The Tyranids will forever be an mystery to me, and many within the Ordo Xenos are afraid of what they, we will find from the Great Devourer entire ecosystem. Many fear the Ruinous Powers, but the Dark Powers still rely on Human emotions to exist, the Great Devourer doesn’t, all they need is food and we of the Imperium are food to them, and the Galaxy is a feast to be consume.
@nothuman30834 жыл бұрын
It is possible to defeat the hivemind at it's own game an entire ecosystem dedicated to war and consumption. What I say next is highest form of heresy, but one we must do to survive. The orkz are similar and will turn even the most barren rock into a orkiod paradise, a boy can be implanted with knowledge and cybernetic to enhance their strength and put between the maw of the hive fleet will no running will be death but fighting might mean survival. Billions of orkz could be turned to living bioweapons in a single shipyard and a planet by the trillions. They'll die and burn the planet to ash starving the hive fleet only to find a world of orkz years later.

I love love loved the explanation of how the Baal people resolve the conflict between their belief in an almighty allseeing Emperor and the horror of their experience, reframing it as a gift and a refining trial -- so very, very believable. The Tyranid's remind me of the story of the Necrons and C'tan. It makes me believe that, in a desperate attempt to get rid of the others, they created a far worse enemy. They believed that they defeated the Necrons but then in their time of peace, after the war. They got a vision of what their physic creations would become, either through one of them acting different or the fact that they may have started fighting each other, the Eldar and Kroaks in small cases. It explains why in the Swarm affects the Warp and in some ways, uses it. This is how The Shadow of the Warp works right?
