Same man I spent way to much money on BDO and all these Korean mmos is the same. Everything is RNG, all the good shit is in cash shop. I prefer FFXIV where everyone is equal, same price, same treatment. No RNG, most of the costume and dye earn in game not some cash shop item. I'm still going to play Lost Ark tho cuz it's new.

It really is funny, you would think that after the 100th korean mmo we get here people would understand how it works, but noup, people genuinely think Lost Ark developers are some kind of altruistic gods with no pay to win intentions at all that just want to give a free game to people at no cost at all lmao. Once people realize the amount of grind required to keep up lot will quit, the ones who doesnt eventually will say "well what is it 10 bucks for something i enjoy" and eventually in about a year lot of "free to play advocates" will have spent more than 50-60 bucks in the game, but will still tell you how it is free to play and you are not required to pay at all.

Don't blame a model of business, blame yourself for not having good skills in financial management because if you are picking the game and agree to play it to gotta find the way to balance it out. I have played BDO for years and I have also spent a good amount of $, to some people it's a wasted of money but to me it is just something I pay to enjoy, as long as the money you pay for things you enjoy does not affect your standard of living it's ok.

Stoopz hit 1500 in 6 months on the Russian server. The game plays entirely different on the NA server. it took him 3 months to get to tier 3, on NA it took him less than 2 weeks because of all the catch up mechanics we have. Either way, he enjoyed every second of that 6 months so I don't see the issue.

It's not all PvP either. Only Arena is equalized, the other two PvP modes (Guild vs Guild and Island PvP) aren't, so they're ripe for P2W exploitation

This is one of the reason I enjoy the p2w option in free games because I don't want to spend months grinding and wasting time on a game just to get to the good parts. Either I waste irl time or waste money and considering I got one life then yeah...

I'm at 1k rn. Haven't spend a cent. God it went even faster than I expected it. Game is fun asf, yea maybe it will take me longer if I won't pay to progress in the later stages, but for now I'm having a blast. FF14 + alt did also cost me sth like 140bucks in 3months. So for rn, this game is a hella lot cheaper, and for me personally a LOT more fun atm. The fighting is fun, the story is very basic but enjoyable to look at. The dungeons are dope, the islands are all unique and refreshing. Yes paying would've allowed me to skip the 2weeks of playing this game(would've cost me still less than a Storyskip+Charboost btw.). The game has so many catchup mechanics it's unreal. You get 2 chars boosted for free to maxlvl for finishing half of the msq. Yea you have rng in this game, it can fk u over massively. Just like it can fk you over if u have 1 acc and no static in FF. You might get your bis in 5months lol, if rng will be bad not even then. In lost ark you at least have % increase the more you fail. Soon you can boost any char to lvl 50 to progress even faster for sth like 2eur lol. For people still not jumping on the hate train, just give the game a try till you've played the first 1-2dungeons. See if you like it, just playing through the msq is alrdy more than worth it, while for me as gamer I enjoy the later stages a shitton. Def more than I did savage lol The whole p2w argument is basically only for tryhard sweats trying to compete with other nolifers. Just like week1 savage clearers have their own world. If you don't belong in this group, this game will keep you progressing on a constant basis due to the dailies alone lol. The longer it will take you to reach the absolute endgame, the less chances for you to get gated by lacking materialgear.

While I agree with this, its not black and white. All games and entertaiment is waste of time by default. @@izzy5990 Character boosts are p2w too. But p2w as most things is not binary. A game can have different levels of p2w aspects. Compared to lost ark ff14 has very little options to buy character power through money. As far as I‘m aware you can only buy retainers and level boost/story skip potions. In the end though, all high end gear is time gated and not obtainable through money outside of illegal boosting services. In Lost Ark however, the amount of character power you can buy through money is nearly limitless and hugely impactful. Yes you can access item shop items through gold, but there has to be a person who bought the item shop items with real money. I mean you even have to buy a real money currency to freakin buy tier2+ gear in the auction house. Don‘t get me wrong I love lost ark, but the item shop has to change. Especially because besides all the extra power you can buy through money there still is a subscription option. Like what? I was under the assumption a game has either a subscription fee or an infinite p2w item shop but not both.

@@izzy5990 the big difference is that you buy a FF story skip, which takes away a significant part of the game from you... the story, while you get an advantage over the players playing the story, you'll have a disadvantage over them as well because you only experienced half the game, While on Lost Ark, I have to pay to experience the full game. The second thing is, story skips are only available when the expansion has been out for a while, in that time most of the people will have finished the story already. So it's more of a "catching up to others" instead of "getting ahead of them". Now in lost ark... the biggest problem is that you can buy unlimited gold... you need gold for EVERYTHING in the game. You can buy those stones that up your success chance while upgrading while others need like 100000 attempts because they don't have enough gold for that shit. Yes you can get gold through playing but that amount is nothing compared to what you can get with money and if you wanna buy a skin so your char can look good you won't have enough money for whatever you wanted to buy (btw skins have STATS... yes only stats like charisma BUT YOU NEED THOSE FOR FLIRTING, yes flirting is only a side thing BUT FLIRTING GIVES YOU STUFF LIKE CARDS AND POTIONS THAT STRENGTHEN YOUR CHARACTER). As a F2p player, by the time you actually reached the min requirements to do endgame stuff every whale has cleared it 10 times. "Yeah but what does it matter if you get there late?" 1. Maybe you wanna go world first... not possible if you are 2 years late sry 2. Maybe you wanna play with friends... aaw too bad they all whaled and are years ahead and can't even ENTER your dungeons anymore, time to play solo kid 3. Market prices will be insane and impossible to afford. Example: Skins prices were like 100 gold at day 1. Now they are at like 2000 gold and they will rise because the more time goes by, the higher the prices get because stuff gets sold out. So the faster you can spend money, the less you pay. If there's anything RARE you'd like to do... like getting a rare mount, clearing something that hasn't been cleared much... it's literally physically impossible for you because by the time you reach it, it's not rare anymore, no skill or no lifing can compensate whaling. A story or leveling skip in FF is not even close to what P2W really causes on problems. And FF players are almost all against the story skip anyways so what's the point of your argument? Amen 🙏

Starting in AC: Origins they introduced a more traditional RPG leveling system that resulted in players not having enough gear power or XP to continue at certain points in the story. Incidentally, this was the first AC to introduce an XP booster in it's in game cash shop. There are dozens of videos on this topic and it was especially a hot button issue in Odyssey. It wasn't "just a lot" of side content you "could" do but a lot of content you HAD to do, either that or buy a XP booster.

Not only that - having to research a game to be able to progress at reasonable pace is simply bad game design especially considering the amount of rng in the game and how boring sailing is. It's made this way to push people to spend money to skip it. I like the game but it's basically mobile game like system nonetheless.

Why would anyone bother explaining anything to you when you don't even know how tomestones work.

The boosts skip you to the end of the previous expansion in terms of story & level, but you still need to play through the entirety of the most recent one to even gather tomestones, and only at max level, and you are guaranteed to have at least some tomestones by the time you finish the story and unlock the current endgame raids. This is not P2W because the emphasis is for the player to sit through (and hopefully enjoy) an excellent tale, much of which you will miss out on if you pay for the previously mentioned boosts, and in addition to this tomestones are actually not the only way to get ready for endgame (savage) raids. Boosts were made for peoples' actual alt characters, I don't like them but that's another topic. "Almost" max level is relative, you still have to sit through a couple dozen hours of gameplay even if you skip every cutscene (which won't make sense if you boost to that point anyway) in the most recent expansion. You can also pay for crafted gear off of the market board to meet the item level requirements if the light grind for tomestones isn't your thing (it really isn't very long, only some of your class's best gear will come from tomestones anyway, some comes from raids and your BiS for entering the most recent raid series will inevitably include some crafted gear initially) with no dev supported way of turning your real life currency into in-game currency of any kind. In fact, some of the best gear you can obtain for one of the Ultimate level raids (The Epic of Alexander or TEA) is obtained from a specific dungeon as opposed to any endgame tomestone grinding, and it's fair to suspect that future Ultimate raids may have a similar phenomenon occur. The reason this is, is because Ultimate level raids will lock you to a very specific item and character level, and anything over that is scaled down to exactly that item and character level. All 3 Ultimate raids currently in the game are from previous expansions, which means you can actually boost to a point where you can very easily get gear for them and actually complete them, but good luck with that. Somewhere around 1% of the player base has actually finished any Ultimate raids, having the gear required to do them is around 1% of the prep work with the other 99% being learning the fight and executing gameplay. On that note, BiS is very often not asked for in raids, people tend to only care about if you meet the minimum item level to enter the raid and how you execute your rotation against the raid's mechanics. BiS is helpful and can help you squeeze past certain thresholds and recover from mistakes but by no means gospel. Hope you found this essay informative as to how endgame gearing works in FFXIV (and why in my opinion it isn't P2W). If you're hung up on the boosting aspect, that's fine, but please understand FFXIV is a very different beast from a typical MMO, where story is often second to everything in the game. This game prioritizes story despite being an MMO, which is why even if you boost you do still need to sit through a lot of story to hit endgame raiding.

I appreciate the clarification and I actually just saw that in 6.0 they finally changed the different currency’s and just made all the allagan tomestones the same finally. So you’re point is actually even more correct now than when I first read it lol. I actually played all the way through and got all tank max level in ShB. I unfortunately stopped playing since may 2021 because Bozja imo was terrible and getting the relic weapon to 535 for GnB and warrior was the quite literally the worst experience I’ve ever had in any game (yes even worse for me than the patch quests post ARR-HW). I’m actually planning on coming back eventually because I never leveled any crafter or gatherer and wanted to finally try the Shiva Ultimate. But I probably won’t cause I am personally enjoying the hell out of Lost Ark for now. Thanks again for the breakdown

I've been playing this since KR and thankfully have no urge to spend. Wanted to play this 'casual' this time. Instead I dread logging in just to run the same 4 chaos dungeons and 4 gaurdian raids for a chance at one upgrade so maybe I can unlock the next content. My friends are ahead of me spending blue crystals, and my entire playtime consists of figuring out what jewelry to sell for gold and getting upset at failed hones. Just terrible

i got the taste of it today, tried to level another character to tier 2 and failed because all my mats where gone after a bunch of failures i gave in and bought some things with the F2P crystals they give and i don't know if i made a big mistake.

More like I think most people playing the game aren't even part of this conversation and both the ptw and copium sides are flailing their arms around while everyone else is having fun. Which they'll do on the next MMO release and the release after that one Seen it happen everytime. Just a small but vocal side of the MMO playerbase that doesn't really enjoy MMOs but loves complaining about them. Sometimes they get some things right but are easily dismissed because of how many other things they get flagrantly wrong. I used to be on the obnoxipus ptw complainer side of things and holy shit does it make enjoying these game nearly impossible. Not to mention your hellbent on ruining other people's enjoyment of the game. The past like two games I've decided to just enjoy the games and it's just a better use of my time even if the game dies. Now I just watch from the sideline and laugh at both sides knowing they'll never enjoy any MMO

@@TNTspaz P2W is not restricted to MMOs - it's a plague on gaming in general. Hating on "rival" MMOs or games is definitely a very popular pastime of sad people, but giving a pass on monetization systems like the ones in Lost Ark is just asking for even worse ones later, so honestly I don't think it can ever be criticized enough. The fact that a bunch of people have attempted to defend it is what really worries me as well. Companies hope exactly for that kind of reaction, to normalize it or justify it and shove it down the throats of as many people as possible. If P2W wasn't still so stigmatized, you can bet your ass it would be in every game on the market.

@@chirohisuke7800 Bunch of Streamers started the game around same time. Couple of them like Soda and Nick spend several thousand of dollars to get upgrades and such. Some other streamers like Savix was playing F2P and he did catch their progression after 3 days.

To say that something worst than others without back up evidences like trying to give a handicap to something not even in the league. Not sure why it’s coming that though. Consider you have XIV fans are annoying, but none of ppl in this game ever talk shit about something in a different category. In fact, on the MMORPG Reddit, there is a topic about how mmos are determined. You get ppl arguing about Lost Ark vs Destiny as an mmo than compare to other games such as WoW, CoD, PSO2, GW2, and sandbox games.

Considering you can clear Sav without endgame/BiS gear it's only a grind if you make it one. The BiS stuff just makes reclearing faster and lets you refine strats. Sav gear being dyable is also kind of a reward if you're after the it for glams I guess. It's a matter of, do you find toughing it out through Sav fights over and over and optimizing fun? If not then clearing or just practicing a bit and waiting for crafted or alliance raid catchup drops is perfectly fine, no need to feel bad that you want to spend your time doing something else. If you like the challenge of early/min ilvling fights and the hustle of cleaning up your performance then the current level of gear encourages that. Either way is perfectlyacceptable, it's about what you find fun, you're not held back by gear to clear. Grinding out BiS raid gear only matters if you want to world first or be among the sweatiest of parsers, in which case doing the grind would probably be part of the fun of all that anyway.

That's actuallt a fair question - personally, my answer is that my static are a bunch of absolute mad lads and I love them to bits, and getting bis/close to it sets me up for grinding ultimates. If I can get an ultimate down this tier, I'll be a happy chap.

@@shaerigir88 increased health pools increases the length of the fight thus increasing the number of mistakes that can be made in a timed war of attrition. So yes lol that increases the difficulty. If I took a dark souls boss and made it take twice as long to beat it is harder due to the strain on your resources and potentially more painful when you fail. I enjoy monster Hunter for similar reasons but I also know a lot of people are already getting burnt out on the length of the fights even if they are succeeding. I’m almost In t3 and this is a very me sort of style of difficulty but I got a lot of friends who are not into the sheer length of these dailies. Hell I enjoy them but often times I put them off because I want to do other things in the game more then fight the highest difficulty boss I can do twice to start my play. The tldr is the increase of health increasing the length of these timed fights that are dailies could drive some people away from this game and even for those of us who enjoy it it can get to be a bit long winded when it’s the fight we end up doing every day for days for the best reward we can get at the point we are at. Now for something I think this game does better than any other mmo or action game I have played, the abyss dungeons. They are my current favorite activity and I bet one of the activities most enjoy the most currently. I’m excited to see the t3 abyss dungeons because t2 feitan and t1 rohendel were sick! Edit: but seriously increasing the health of something especially in a timed activity is one of the clearest and easiest to understand difficulty increasing things you can do because again TIMED And it now takes more time to beat. So if a fight you were beating in 11 minutes with 9 to spare and I double the health pool you now fail. It’s the same as if I took a stagger check and increased the required stagger to pass or you wipe. It’s an artificial difficulty increase where none of the mechanics change but it’s still a difficulty increase.

Ya I tried to enjoy it as much as possible. But I barely made it to endgame. The only thing that's worth anything is the combat. Everything else about the game is meh or terrible.

Yes it's p2w, but not to this degree. We have ALOT of f2p players on pace with the whales. None of this content is not in NA

If it took stoopz 6 months to hit 1500 then it'll take a casual nearly twice that time an by time they get there will there even be a decent amount of people running that content or will they be on newer content by then?

@@TheBlackSage7 That depends if the game will die until then. As I mentioned the majority of the players will have the same bottlenecks so their progress will kinda be the same. On top of that you only need 7 other ppl to play with to complete everything there is to lost ark, so as long as your got some mates and enjoy the gameplay you will have a good time which what games are supposed to provide you.

I don't want to do an hour of dailies for 10 months to unlock content. After FF lets you get bis in a couple weeks and doesn't lock any content, just value my time too much

But if you don't pay the chef, no one is going to make you that meal though. The analogy makes more sense if you say you take the bus to go to the store to buy ingredients and make it yourself. At the end of the day, money and time are the resources that determine what you get. You have the choice at the end of the day to decide how you go about it. This game is not meant to be competitive but I guess it has to be a race somehow. I do see how people like to compare money versus time and stack skill next to that but equality is something that has skewed perspectives based on who you consult. @@

Well sadly "p2w" players are really bad and are fludding the game with shitty matchmaking. Super hard to clear any content at 1100 ilvl. I'm a f2p player

Which is perfectly fine. But call a spade a spade. Is the game pay2win? Absolutely, but does that make it a bad game? That’s subjective. Some people won’t care s long as their are enjoying themselves, while others won’t touch it out of principle. These types of videos/commentaries are for people to make their own decisions about the game. If they want to play the game cool but at least know what you are getting into

Sadly as good as BDO combat and gameplay is, there is no actual content, beside endless grinds and duels for spot - 25 hours of grinding for 1 full pen boss gear? and thats not even the hard part, accessory grind is harder probably need 2 years of hard farming the same goddamn mobs to get max gear. Or just swipe a few thousand dollars ...

In Lost Ark there is fun group content that players can enjoy until the endgame, then probably quit is the best option.

@@ACTPOHABTa The idea of 'content' is more than dungeons/raids. Grinding is grinding, whether you're grinding a dungeon over and over or grinding individual mobs. If you want to play a game like a job, you probably won't enjoy any of them.

thats fine, you can still have fun in a p2w game. but just because you have fun and dont make use of p2w feature doesnt mean its not p2w.
