To understand... in the mid 80s, Africa was experiencing severe drought and famine. A group of British rockers lead by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure released a record (Do They Know its Christmas) with all proceeds going to famine relief in Africa. Then USA rockers lead by Harry Belafonte, Ken Kragen and Quincey Jones, recorded the video here with the same goal. The last effort was LIVE AID. This is a weekend concert televised from three continents. The Live Aid video of Queen you watched is from that concert. Phil Collins flew on the SST Concord to all three continents and performed in USA, UK and Australia in the same concert. It was televised on MTV. Incredible concert. The finale song in the UK included Bob Geldof, David Bowie, Freddie Mercury and most of the huge array of rockers that performed throughout the weekend event. The videos of the Uk Christmas record and that finale are on You Tube. They raised over $200 million and it was sent to Africa. Unfortunately it was intercepted by a dictator and terrorist group who used it for weapons against its own citizens. Still... no generation before or after in music ever took on such a huge task which could have made a difference. Next to this, in 1986, you have Comic Relief USA by Robin Williams, Whoopi Goldberg and Billy Crystal. They raised OVER $50 million for the homeless in the USA. I am very proud to be part of the generation that gave so much to humankind. ✌🏻

All of these stars had at least a number one song of their own, but came together for one cause, to help the people during the great famine and starvation in Africa, 1985. All proceeds from purchases and donations went directly to bringing food to Africa. I do believe the song was not just about our own choices to take care of ourselves, but to remind us that we are all one on this earth, And it takes all of us making the choice to come together and make a difference. It was a different world back then. Imagine trying to bring everybody together in this world, today!! I just don't know why people can't just get along with each other.

You could literally just go through the catalogs of this video of each singer and be busy for months .... this was the powerhouse (mostly) of the 80's and they raised us to be who we are.

Most of those artist that are still alive are up in age. They deserve to still be heard , and for us to let their stars shine.

I sang on this song with my high school's choir in 1985. The song was unprecedented at the time ( I still don't know of another that raised so much money, not to mention awareness). Just look at the artists that participated.... almost every single one of them are legends. I'm proud of my generation, we tried so hard to make a positive impact. I know there are still people that try but in those days music was for everybody and there were no rock, country, rap, soul stations. I heard it all on every station I listened to. That's one of the biggest reasons this was so successful... because everybody heard it on every station. Well that and we had MTV when it was about music and not about all these BS reality shows. Maybe at some point it will come together again and music will belong to everybody 🙏

This was for Live Aid the whole world came together with all artist and gave free concerts and we all could watch it live on TV and donate for Afrika , i know i had a dog that was 80 kilo and the lady at the bank said just give a dollar for every kilo the dog weighed so i did , did not have much at the time but was glad to be a part of this world wide happening , beautiful how all artist showed up for Live Aid This was USA for Afrika but you also had Do they know its Christmas from England ,and great perfomances from all the legends of music back then, the world rocked for Afrika ,shame we could not hold on to that .

They had a lot of great singers in the remake, but used them mostly for the chorus. Why they chose ‘singers’ who heavily used auto tune for solos is beyond me! Big difference. Huge! As you so often say, just keeping things real as you go down the rabbit trail of popular music, the truth that you are finally discovering is that a soul is not made up of someone's outward appearances or racial color tones. The definition of a true soul is that of an eternal being that does not die. The superficial things of this world will all someday cease and fade. When we experience mere glimpses of awesomeness here in this world and especially through the joy of Music, we get to see just a crumb of what is promised in paradise. If it is an expression of Love and Truth , its a beautiful thing no matter what your pigmentation of skin tones. Love is eternal, and proof of this is when ever we experience the physical loss of someone dear to us. As you sit in your room recording your reactions to various forms of music , your soul is touched by certain memories that are valued. Your family does not have to be with you in the physical to know that you love them. I know this is some deep stuff, but I know you will understand what I am saying. First, Quincy is genius. Second, back then we were doing pretty good with coming together more. There were problems for sure, but things were improving until millennials and zoomers arrived and trashed all of the progress. Fire was stoked up and each group was told that the other hated them. It’s going to take generations to get back to the good progress that we were making in the 80’s and 90’s.
