Being lazy can be a good thing. Especially when pronouncing the Swedish U. Otherwise, you might mix it up with the Swedish O.
Learning Swedish pronunciation is super important and one of the first things you should focus on.
We think that pronunciation is the perfect start for all of you looking to learn Swedish.
Somehow, SFI rarely focusses on pronunciation. Which we think is THE most important thing to be able to communicate in Swedish.
Mostly because Swedes are not very good at understanding "broken" Swedish.

8:00 Utfart/Infart comes from german, where fahrt means a journey/trip (noun form of the verb 'fahren', which means to drive or go somewhere). In Swedish, the equivalent verb is 'fara', which sounds a bit old fashioned and 'åka' eller 'köra' is probably more common nowadays. This verb has two noun forms in Swedish actually! 'Fart', which is very uncommon nowadays, and 'Färd', also not very common but more frequent than 'fart'. Interestingly though, 'fart' has remained in utfart/infart!

In this case the swedish word FART in the word utFART derives from the word FARA wich in this case means to drive/to travel. FART also means "speed", but not in this case.

Al principio pensé que me costaría trabajo la "u" corta y larga, pero cuando dijiste que una es con flojera y la otra suena como la "u" normal en español, me facilitó muchísimo el aprendizaje. Muchas gracias por tus videos. Me ayudan muchísimo para complementar con otros materiales para aprender sueco n.n

@FunSwedish
@FunSwedish 3 жыл бұрын
That is a great idea! You are not alone, "en" and "ett" is probably one of the hardest things to get completely perfect in Swedish. 😅 But the good news is that... it is not THAT important. 😉 If you use "en" when you should use "ett", people will still understand you.

The difference is grammatical gender. Basically, Swedish has two grammatical genders for nouns: gendered and neuter. However it is quite simple. ‐ For gendered nouns, you use en, den, den här/där, etc. - For neuter nouns (genderless), you use ett, det, det här/där, etc. Gendered example: En hund... den här hunden... Neuter example: Ett barn... det här barnet...

Hejsan från Österrike :-) your videos are such fun really! but sometimes I'm confused ... in German we have the vowel Ü which sounds like your long U like f.i. in hus, ljud, druvan or utom (or in skulle which maybe doesn't follow the rules?). But our Ü also sounds like your Y in lyfta, betyda, sylt ... to my ears these two vowels sound very, very similar and I wonder how differently should I pronounce almost identical words so that Swedish people don't get confused - words like nu och ny eller buk och byk?
@larsnienberg5488

Fellow native German speaker here - one thing that's been helping me is to think of the Swedish U as a mix between the German U and Ü sounds, whereas Y is more of a mix between Ü and I.
