This guy has obviously been through the wringer with fake riders. Legitimate riders also ask for the driver's name so you gotta be careful. I agree there are better ways to go about it.

Damn man. This is why I stick to the day shifts out of the city. BUT. In this scenario I would still just have adjusted my attitude and explained politely to the passenger what information I was looking for. This IS customer service. You have a public rating system available. I haven't been in the game long. But I'm proud of that 5 star rating lol.

Keep the content coming Nick....great stuff This was an excellent commentary video. I have seen these before but really enjoyed your take on both. Boston area driver here as well. Uber/Lyft XL. Once scenario I stay away from these days is a rider claiming to be in a massive hurry, and that if I rush to them and drive fast to their destination, will get a big tip. Commonly will get a message on the way to pickup. It is never worth the risk to drive faster than you should. So far my experience the passenger has been very difficult, emotional or confrontational, and no matter how great of a "rapid" service to pickup and eventual destination, have never gotten a tip from the rider. I am a part time driver, with a couple of weekends a month, with less than 1000 rides so far, but strive to give a great service, so every chance I get I try to help the rider and be courteous, but in such cases it has never turned out well, and not worth the fare.

Hi Nick, I only drive part time approximately every other weekend. For the most part riders are trying to wear masks, but mostly young and ignorant college guys... Commonly intoxicated... Can be difficult. As I try to find the most profitable way to drive my XL van, I came across the significant difference in the distance and time rate on rides when you start to approach 495. The rate drops significantly. I live in the Metro West area and frequently find myself pulled further and further west, into a less profitable zone. These days I set a destination inside of 95 or Government Center to keep me closer to Boston, with the hope of working around and north and south of the city where the pay is better. With Uber one can specify only allowing XL rides, but Lyft not. Trying to find the sweet spot of settings to get routinely high profit rides, while still staying busy. Thinking of staying away from Uberx, and just doing Uber XL, Uber Comfort, Uber Pet, along with Lyft regular, and LyftXL (as mentioned no way to only choose LyftXL), with hopes of getting the higher profit rides driving the larger minivan (2019 Caravan), burning up more gas. Surge pricing is still not existent in MA, as riders can wait extra time. Hopefully that will change back soon, as demand is definitely there. I have driven a full Saturday, and with bonuses and have made almost $500 for the day during these crazy times. One tactic considering is only having UberXL enabled during late nights, where I find myself in remote areas, and still routinely getting requests...not fun driving 20 minutes to pick up a cheap Uberx rider, when my car is the only available. Might be worth seeing if people will go with the XL when no Uberx is available. This is also a side hustle for a single parent. Use the finds partly to fuel other passive income generation.
