I know this video is 3 yrs old but decided to give a little info on real watch rotations. I am retired Navy , mostly served on frigates designed for sub hunting. The 2hr watches are called "dog watches" there is usually two of them , one after the next. This is mainly for the cooks to feed the crew and are around dinner time. Sea watches are typically 4hrs on watch. If your 1 in 3, you do one watch in every 3. 1 in 4 is one watch in ever 4 watches. Then their is "marrying the dog watches" which takes the two 2hr watches and puts them both with the four hr watch before and after making 2 shifts have a 6 hr watch each. There are a few variations. The officers would be 1 in 2, so 5 on 5 off 7 on 7 off, do to limited numbers. The "free" designation" can be used for "turning 2" which means available to work but off watch. You usually turn 2 when in a 1 in 4 rotation, so you work your 4 hrs and are available for 4 hours if there is any work to be done, then your free after that Hope this was useful or interesting for someone.

Having situational shifts is helpful. I have a "docked duty" and "manning the valves" jobs which are usually empty but enabled by situation. You can change crew duties by having multiple versions and only enabling some. Also using all three free/work/any can force officer syncing schedules. Even a single forced off/on duty block in an otherwise free schedule can trigger shift changes for officers. I wish you could manage role presets better and assign roles on a time basis. Early on I have crew on "auxiliary" duty scheduled opposite an officer, eg day watch officer, night sailor as spotting at night is less likely but you need someone for safety. Even with all these good tips in the videos there is a lot more creativity to find.

Hey McDewgle, hope you do more Uboat videos as I have found your content to be excellent and extremely easy to follow especially this crew management system. Many thanks. Cheers from Scotland :)

Along with the other longer video, this has completely changed the way I play the game. Thanks a bunch!

There’s an advantage to have an officer on nav all the time (increased fuel efficiency). I tend to run officer on engines and nav, each with two officers when heading from base to target sector.

The reason Klaus was missing is he wasn't "Boarded" he was only "Ready" in the status tab

I just found your channel and really do appreciate the detailed help. Too many folks try but leave many details out, just like this. Sure wished there was a manual.

Great alternative method to manager crew, but after B130 can you please update the scheme or check if it's still ok? GJ

This works great, until you send your watch officer to man a gun and lose your watch crew, then can't see the target ship to shoot it. Or send your engineer to patch a leak, and he takes his crew with him off the engines, which then shut down so you can't maneuver as well.

In other words, it doesn't work. And all that messing around with shifts, assignments, renaming, reordering, priorities... not because how realistic is crew management in this game but because sailors don't even get tired, ever. And it'll get buggy sooner or later anyway. This game has ended up being a bit disappointing at several levels.
@seymourfields3613 Жыл бұрын
@@WarLasso I'm a very hard critic on games. I return most games in the first two hours because Steam has the worst return policy and most games disappoint me in ten hours of play so I just don't keep them. I wouldn't say UBoat is a disappointment in the least. I've put a lot of hours into it. It just still needs work. It needs optimization and to lean into what it was in the start. It was never a micro manage every single seaman game, and shouldn't have to be. Those are the NPCs on your ship.

Great video, but a little correction The penalty from “too much work form officers” happens if you have more than 6 sailors working at any given time. Usually you have: 1 Cook 1 Cleaning 1 Valves 2 Watching So by saving those two with that little Watching trick you freed 2 for different duties. A question that I have, when I put cleaning on only half the time, I have the “dirty boat” debuff?? Also you can have 7 hours shift by 5 resting on officers and be fine Stamimawise, so you can have that little overlap no problem Great video!!
@frederf32273 жыл бұрын
Sailor overwork looks like a fraction. So if you only have 4 and 3 working it's a 75% = penalty.

Great tutorial! Watched your stream for the first time yesterday. There is something though that doesn not work for me. As I set 2 designated crewmembers to the engineer on duty they disappear with him as the next engineer comes on shift. Setting these same 2 engine crew with the other engineer does not work in the schedule, so I have to set the engine crew to 4 as well as the Watch crew to make it work and assign the other engineer two different engine crewmembers. Right?

i can only name 3 shifts if i try to add a 4th it appears below the new shift line and i cant add a name

Hi. I have a quick question. About the "Shifts", I had the original three shifts. I wanted to create new ones and just disable the original three so I had them for reference. I had my six shifts, three turned off and three turned on. I went to make four more shifts, for engineering and a watch crew, first and second shift, but I guess I corrupted the mission in progress as when I created the seventh shift, the new entry was BELOW THE CREATE SHIFT LINE and I could not type in a name for it or save it. My question is are there only a set number of Shift entries allowed in that window, or is there a limit to the number of characters that are allowed for the name of that shift? I'm guessing that either I exceeded the number of allowed characters, or there was maybe a character or punctuation mark that corrupted the database? ...assuming is also written to a spreadsheet. Please let me know. Thanks for your wonderful tutorials and expertise. I'm using B131 Hotfix 1 and shouldn't be exceeding the limits of my system performance.

Not played the game for ages, I recall when the management system came out it was quite buggy. Glad to see it much better. What is the max number of just sailors can you have on watch and engines? 2 max? Great vid, many thanks for doing this, very informative.

Any idea why batteries will not charge and delete to zero .while on surface using diesel . Even after leaving port with a new patrol.

That sounds like you still have the electric motors selected on the engine order telegraph. Or it could be a bug. Are you playing with mods?

it wont let me add the same engine crew guys to my two engineers..? how do i fix that?

If you also assign engine crew and watch crew to officers, when do they rest? Won't they just work til they collapse?

Can't make it work properly ... i think im having the crew management bug where i cant create sailor shifts no mater what i do , at least i can customize the existing ones .. Were you using any mods with this video ? Or just vanilla ? Cheers !

This will still work after B129 (I mean, the 24/7 sailor routine)

Is there anyway to delete the officer roles? Like when you save a preset, then save another preset, and another before long you have 4 Quartermaster roles and need to get rid of some.

@@McDewgout I didn't think you'd answer, thank you: First off, the function to Name New Shifts doesn't work anymore, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. Other people have reported this too. Also, I don't understand the games calculation now of how many sailors are at shift. sometimes it says 7 workers are working, (when they should be 9) and when I hover over it, it says like 5 sailors doing tasks, 1 in addition, but his name is greyed, and 3 are assigned to officers(with solid green, so they are working). Doesn't make any sense idk. I eventually managed to make a funtioning schedule, until now that I tried to make a more detailed one, after watching your video: I basically replicated what you did, except I went as far to have 4 watchmen, and 4 engineers, with 2 shifts each, so there should always be 2 on duty, and since sailors don't sleep, the ones "off duty" should be assigned to regular tasks. I carefully selected the right names and also assigned those watchmen and engineers to the right officer who shares their shifts. So the sailors part actually worked, they do what they are supposed to, but: Now my officers somehow no longer start and end their shifts, at their designated times, and the sailors don't get automatically assigned anymore. EVEN THOUGH I have 6 free sailors ready for assignment.
@ohhhSmooth Жыл бұрын
@@McDewgout Next I will delete my 2 shifts for watchmen and engineers, and have them do the task 24/7 like in the video, and see if it works now. But I don't see why it should tho,...
