This is awesome! I did not expect it to turn out so well but it looks absolutely wonderful. That last light coat really brought it together. This is exactly what I was looking for before painting my own doors. THANK YOU!

What not many of these tutorials share is that there’s a “comb” on one side can be used and you can flip the grain tool over on its handle for additional patterns

Whats up with the hate?? I do this for a living and this guy did a fantastic job for what it is - he's trying to show everyday homeowners an easy way to make your door look like wood.

I have done this before for clients, yet prefer to hire the true artists in this field. Prep is everything with this technique. What base coat was used? Oh wait, he never said, in fact he jumped past all of that to show the absolutely WORST application and followed with an even worse technique. Please do not follow anything is this video. All stains are different and have different drying times. The base coat is extremely important. Let's not ignore the safety issues when working with solvent based products.

@@lincard3401 No and sorry... I do not since I will not post a link here and a simple KZfaq search of "professional wood graining" will yield some very good examples on how to use a wood graining tool. However, this non professional video is very much not one of them. Like I stated "prep is everything". The base coat color dictates the lightest shades of the wood type you're after. Not everyone wants a door with grain that looks like it's of pine, which many graining tools tend to yield and this is where the real artisans come in. Then the actor demonstrates (in my opinion) the worst possible way to use such a tool. Can you do this yourself? Sure... but without some guidance, patience and some practice, it may never yield professional results.

Ain’t that the truth! Door looks great! Took the time to try and help others achieve this look themselves but you always have those negative people out there that honestly must have nothing better to do! Loved the video. Can’t wait to try!!

it actually doesnt look that bad, i can imagine if i used a satin finish for poly, it would look good. the door appears to have a glossy finish or it was still wet, they didnt say in the video.

I called UGL, company that makes ZAR and the technician said a coat of flesh color paint makes it look most natural, not white. Also they say the graining process should dry longer than 2 hours, like 12.

Looks to be a 10 footer.....it looks good from 10 feet away! I just did a similar woodgraining project on a front door for a customer who bought a kit. Looks very “DIY”up close and after looking at some other people’s attempts....it’s confirmed:-(

very nice video! so well explained and to the point. if I apply 2 coats of stain after the graining layer will it tone down the grain,? I like a more subtle grain. look forward to hearing from u!

If you are good at it. You can shade the lacquer (color in the lacquer) and spray it makes it even. Do not over do it as it will get cloudy. All furniture is shaded

Question my door is a white/off white right now hasn’t been painted in years I am sure should I repaint before starting this process or would it be okay just to sand and then start? Thank you again
