Panther sustained serious neck and back injuries which put her out of action for 5 months- she thought her Gladiator career was over. Slowly, she ventured back into the gym and started to build her body back-up, with the help of her husband Sean and the Gladiators. To the amazement of everyone she returned to the show, but after the 5th series in 1996, Panther decided to hang up her lycra outfit and open her own fashion shop 'COR' in Sutton, Surrey with fellow Gladiators Vogue and Saracen. Nowadays, Panther runs her own gym aptly called Panthers Gym in Uxbridge.

Erika knew something went wrong and went right to Panther’s side. Good sportsmanship, respect and class.

I'm so pleased Panther came back after her accident, I was scared to see the episode when the accident happened and also a very well done goes to Zodiac for supporting her afterwards and taking her place and the same happened in Series 4 with Falcon when Nightshade had her accident.

That makes me wince every time I watch it. Absolutely horrific, and watching it on challenge, I was horrified. Poor Panther, so thank God she recovered

Panther was one of my favourite Gladiators. I was ten years old when this first aired. All these years on it still makes me wince. I imagine Erika must have felt awful about what happened.

I wouldn't say this incident killed Gladiators. It was still on air for another 5 years after this happened.

I watched this and to see Panther get seriously injured was a tad to upsetting for me but good on Erica for supporting Pather when she injured herself and of course Zodiac for showing support to Panther, the one thing I don't get is why the producers didn't pull the challenge out after the serious injury to Panther

Or they could have redesigned it to make it safer (like they did with Pole-Axe and Pyramid; the US version, Tug-o-War, had both the towers at the same height). It was Nightshade's injury that led to the axing of this event.

It was included in the 1995 series in heat 8 anyway, maybe more, when Nightshade fell off it backwards and hurt her neck. It was stopped after that

Who honestly thought that "Tilt" was a good idea? Not only are the towers at different heights, with the Gladiator obviously on the higher tower, but are two pulls per contender. What's wrong with just one pull-10 points for a victory, 5 points for a draw, no points for a loss?

I remember watchimg this and everyone i are living room had the same reaction of Oooooowwwww!! Panther was lucky she was able to come back after a fall like that. that type of injury is a career ending one

With that kind of fall Panther could have been killed!!

@gazdublin, that's true, here they do seem to at least be more sportsmanlike. The Australian Gladiators in both the old and new series (apart from 1 female gladiator and 2 male gladiators) seem to also show some sportmanship afterwards, although it's a bit here and there (sometimes they do, sometimes they don't).

i remember this like it was yesterday that was a nasty fall panther was out of action for a couple of weeks after that,well.

@mikeykm1993 Yeah, she did recover to return for the next three series of Gladiators then retired from the show in 1997/1998 series.

i loved the old gladiators they made it more fun the the newer lot did the glads well most of em (barring wolf) took there losses with dignity and would go back and try again

I was happy Panther recovered and like the commentator i have to question Zodiac kneeling down

@Kaynas1988 I heard they pulled the pyramid out for some time when jet's career ending neck injury happened, which resulted in the safety step. Also: the safety step wasn't used on american gladiators because it gave the contenders an unfair advantage on the pyramid.

this game was very dangerous maybe if they fell into water like they do on games on the sky series it would be less dangerous though.

Great Of Zodiac to support Panther like that. The gladiators were much nicer back then. Yes they had their heated moments with contenders, but they could be themselves and be charcters as well. None of this bad attuide we get now from the new male glads and endless pouting and dirtylooks from the new female glads.

Just saw the repeat of this on challenge. The commentator actually said later in the show after Duel "Good news everyone, there's no serious injury to Panther". Hm.
