There has been a sharp decline in the rate of inflation to 4.6%, driven by a big easing in energy costs.
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) said the annual rate slowed last month, from the 6.7% figure reported in September - mainly due to the lower energy price cap imposed on households at the start of October.

People asking why prices haven't dropped seem to be confusing inflation with interest. Even if inflation drops to 1% that just means there will still be a 1% increase on the previous years prices. Thats inflation.

Main reason it is falling is everyone is utterly tapped out and can't afford to pay any more. What we actually see in the shops is prices still rising at a pace and most people just buying less of everything. Inflation has to go negative for prices to fall, so this isn't great news at all, just not as bad as it has been.

I’m not sure that it matters who’s in office at the moment. The western world is short energy, and following a ludicrous net-zero agenda. As a result inflation will rise with the price of energy. I fully expect energy prices, and therefore inflation, to rise into 2024, and unless the PM nationalises the UK energy infrastructure, prospects our own O&G resources and fixes prices, they cannot control it either.

So really those lroce increases in energy last year were nit necessary. War is still ongoing and infact there is another one now. So those oil companies rmetc took the opportunity to jump on a bandwagon. Off course if tories hadn't done away with all the gas storage areas and let the receiver place in little engkand burn down it wld have been a lot better again. It's like after brexit result came out prices in supermarkets started to rise before we even left the eu. Once again they were jumping in the bandwagon which meant when the final cut off came goods had nearly trebled in price. Rip off merchants the lot of them and the tories do nothing to stop it.

Inflation rate means nothing, its retailers rip off rates we need to stand up to. Why for example has a 4 pack of Guinness in Waitrose gone from £5.00 to £6.20 in a year! This is a 24% increase! Also my local swimming pool has gone from £4.85 to £6.25 in 2 years a 28% increase! I could go on. A BP fuel station near me (Peas Pottage W, Sussex) is selling fuel at least 25p per litre over the average! When I told the cashier he said oh we're near a motorway (M23). Inflation rate means nothing. Its retailers rip off rates we need to stand up to. What does 1 or 2% mean to food and fuel bills if retailers are whacking 20-25% on services and goods every year? The official inflation It effectively false.
