As a family we've been through the wringer over the past two years. Things don't always turn out as planned but you adapt and keep moving forward. We decided to move back to the UK to position ourselves better for work, family and life.

I’m never coming back, im sorry. And im an Eastern Cape black kid. I’m very comfortable in Vienna and I am learning doing business in Europe and other skills I never thought I could, and doing all this without ever worrying about my family’s safety is very important to me. The culture of the country is that things work optimally, efficiently and cogently at all times. Things get fixed almost immediately here.

Couldn’t agree more. When politicians get caught being corrupt there are consequences too and thier careers are over. Things work and the law is respected. I was unfortunately stuck in SA for 9 months when covid hit. During that time my father who was visiting with me was almost scammed at a ATM and we also had guns pointed at us at a stop light which was traumatic for both of us. I never want to set foot there again.

@@KibblesExoticBIts Austria is a Neutral country and have no alliance to any army. It has raised the price of things a little however, it’s still great. The government has given us the residents and citizens over 700€ in power subsidies and other subsidies to maintain our standard of life. They are going to subsidise rents to keep the rental costs low as well. My personal take on the war is that it is terrible. I don’t want any winners and I hope Ukraine and Russia sort out their references, especially without the influence of the West.

Turns out I've fallen in love with a South African and we'd like to move there someday - I love the insights from your channel. Keep your chin up mate and all the best to you and your family, it sounds like you've been through the wringer and deserve some luck. Take care, Josh

Hi, I'm really sorry that circumstances have changed your course of direction. Staying in SA looked promising for you in terms of living an independant life which to me is the ultimate way to survive in this changing world. My wife is British and we moved here end of 2019 with concrete plans and then covid threw the spanner in the works. Everything that we carefully planned over the last few years in the UK became totally derailed from 2019 in SA. Fortunately we have no young dependants so the pressure was not there to make drastic decisions. Anyway being south african and resilient mainly because we dont have a choice 🤣 we set course again and found a place to settle down with a basic existence but still enjoying the things you mentioned. Don't cut ties here which you know already because my unconscious intuition tells me that having somewhere here in the long term will prove beneficial. So good luck on your new path and stay safe.

Think living in the UK or pretty much anywhere in the western world out of South Africa is the best option for your family’s future and your careers. Chaos awaits in SA and it’s not looking likely to improve anytime soon with the load shedding getting worse. Best of luck settling into the UK.

Some of my friends who can leave SA get offended when I tell them this but it’s irresponsible to raise their kids in SA. Not just form a safety perspective but also opportunity perspective when they get older. The earlier you can get them out the better. Some say they want to get their schooling finished first? Maybe SA doesn’t even have that long

The UK is not superior for the indigenous people. The murder rate in the UK is also high. Still no security bars at windows and doors but no one knows long that will last. Howzit Dale, So sorry to hear that the dream had to end! Covid has certainly put a damper on so many plans, intentions, dreams and aspirations. Like you I am a South African (from the Cape) living in San Francisco with my family and was about to launch my Biome Africa educational/travel foundation and had my first group planned....and then Covid happened and we all know what then happened to the travel industry, the eco tourism industry has been crushed! I was so inspired by your tenacity and grit to take your family back and start the farm, you were living my dream and in fact i was getting my wife to watch your channel as I too was hoping to find land near the Garden Route and do what you were doing. The dream of living close to the land in SA and running my Eco Tour/Education was going to be the answer. Anyway, all is not lost and i still have a thriving Landscape Design-Build Firm here in San Francisco called The Garden Route Company. I'm interested to know what you did with the farm? Did you have to sell it? If not, I'm wondering if you would be interested in a partner/collaborator/investor. This is a long shot but I'd love to start something back in that space, a place to cultivate a biodynamic farm, a place i can visit with my family to get that connection with the land and a place to launch my Biome Africa Project. I'm sure you and your family extremely busy regrouping and have little time to engage this but on the off chance you would like to chat ping me an email at biomeafrica@gmail.com or rich@gardenrouteco.com

This is a cool video...I've figured every South African has a different situation with regards to moving or staying. And there are so many different opinions. It makes my head spin. For the longest 21 years that I've been in the UK as an expat South African, I have been super home sick. However, the gun crime and the lack of boarder control in S.A really puts me off going back. I don't want to be taken out by someone wielding an AK-47 while I'm driving on a highway there. It's really scarry. I have my ticket ready to fly out and visit S.A this year, but I'm even thinking of cancelling it! Somehow I wish I'd never been born & brought up there 🤦🏻‍♀️ Homesickness sucks.

So we’ve chosen the UK to settle in so we can just live our lives and not stress about safety and things. But yes homesickness sucks.

I lived in SA for 44 years and loved the mountains, beaches and way of life. Then it all changed around about 2011 - 2015. Crime and violence is out of control. AA and BBBEE quotas and anti-business sentiment are rife. In the 6 years up to me leaving, I was hijacked twice, 3 smash and grabs and 1 violent house break-in at gun point while they cleaned me out. So, I closed the company, sold the assets, paid off the debt and left. The sunshine is great over there, but my and my family's security takes precedence. I read recently that SA has a higher daily murder / death rate than Ukraine (which is at war)! I go every 2 years to visit, but I am very street wise as to how things roll, no thankyou.
