Without belief in Ukrainian help Charles would not enter in Russia's territory with so small army without artillery and ammunition. But only 3 thousand cossacks had joined Masepa in his betrayal. All other cossacks stayed neutral or loyal to Russia, Peter the Great, and new hetman Skoropadsky. Swedish army, without ammunition, food, guns, and bullets had met fully equipped 3 times bigger Russian army. And Swedish army had been totally exterminated in the battles of Lesnaya and Poltava. After the extermination of the Swedish Carolean Army Swedish human resources had been totally exhausted. Sweden was unable to continue strategic operations on the land. Moreover, unions Denmark-Norway and Poland-Lithuania had join Russia in the war against Sweden again.
