That is the devastating cost of two years of war. Russia marked the anniversary with another barrage of deadly attacks across the country - while Ukraine used drones to hit a plant which produces some 18% of Russia's steel output.
Ukrainians say the war started in 2014 when Russia annexed Crimea and sent troops into the Donbas region - after the Euro-maidan protests ousted Kremlin-backed President Viktor Yanukovych.
This is what Russia controls after two years of war, during which it has seized, but also lost territory. This is how an exhausted Ukraine is marking the anniversary.

If you need more recruits and we have too many immigrants here in the U.S. How about we send you all the military aged, physically fit adults crossing our southern border.Seriously what is the problem with conscription there? I checked at the beginning of the war and out of a population of 44 million people in Ukraine there should be 11.4 million military aged males not to mention females there. Call them up. What is the problem? They don't want to go? We didn't especially want to go to Vietnam either but, we still went. I also do not believe it takes 2 years to make build a plant producing artillery shells. It could be done in 2 months if it was a priority.

I could not see many people attending this anniversary to even believe what was said by the visitors. I am very sceptical. I reached that point a month ago. There are 68 million of men in Russia and 19 million men in Ukraine. How long Ukraine can carry on even with enough ammunition. Are you going to send AI robots to increase a manpower? I wish for Ukraine peace and all their territories back but at the moment it is unrealistic/ unachievable no matter what these politicians will say. Who is benefiting from this war? This war started in 2014 and it is between Ukraine and Russia only, but the whole world is paying for it and it could lead to more catastrophe for humankind in the future. I do not like where politics are heading these days. There is no corruption only in Russia , it is everywhere.

There has been no population census in ukraine since 2001.Based on the level of consumption of some food products,the number of people was 39 million in 2019.At the moment,there are 5 million ukrainians in russia,another 7 million on the territory of crimea and the people's republics,along with part of the zaporozhye and kherson regions.Also 7-10 million have dispersed all over the world.According to approximate data,the population of today's ukraine is from 18 to 26 million people from them (pensioners,women,children,disabled people,drug addicts,criminal people 15-19 million)from 18 to 50 years old this is most likely 6-8 million men. Zelensky also said in a recent speech that in two years of war,ukrainians 31 thousand soldiers lose and russians 180 thousand- if this ratio remains for another 10 years,ukraine will lose 350 thousand people and russia 2 million.This means that somehow ukraine needs to make sure that russia has losses of 500 thousand soldiers every year, and then after only 20 years with such values, the probability of victory for ukraine will be greater, but not completely,because 160 -170 million people live in russia unofficially.When ukraine in case If it will put 4 million men under arms;there is a possibility that the bryansk,belgorod,voronezh and kursk regions will be captured by the ukrainians - but this will not be a final victory.A final victory over russia is 50% possible if britain and all eu countries go to fight for ukraine,and from the east,japan and south korea.

It's already been sold off to black rock. The US isn't so bothered about paying the money back in this war as it is directly against Russia, so an investment. Ww2 in Europe was not beneficial particularly to the US.

I doubt they will ever pay it back. Kiev estimated last year they need $750bn to rebuild the whole country - most of that will come from investors, who will make a nice profit, which is why they had the war in the first place. Tax payers will never see any of it returned.

Russia will only freeze the conflict where it is. They are not going to agree to give up land, that in order to win, they lost a soldier every two meters. That's Russian plans from the beginning, дцн!

Because "peace talks" will only result in Russia with 4 new 'states' and Ukraine so weak from the losses they will have to do Russian bidding.

I'm still in support of Ukraine until they get the F-16's. If they STILL can't do anything after getting air power then I am going to start losing support for them. All they do is keep asking for more and more and more, we give more and more and move, and nothing is moving for them, even the more modern armaments delivered to them to go against ancient Russian hardware.
